So the old saying goes.  If you love what you do then it's not work. If you love technology, like learning and like being paid for getting and keeping clients, this is your place.  If you want to be paid to do little or the minimum, and have no interest in technology then you should keep looking.

Training at the time was amazing.  It was a way to weed out the people who would not or by nature of their personality could not be successful.  There is a fair amount of turnover due to the fact you have to go get it everyday and the money is there and each month the clock resets to zero sales. This industry (generally) is a great place to get trained on how to do sales.  If you are interested in sales this is a great place to learn how to be successful in one of the most competitive sales sectors out there.  

I was there a total of 5 years or so and due to relocation outside of the city centre(s) and province of NS I am doing something else now. Respect the owner a lot to this day, and no matter the manager he was open to listening, fair and overall one of the best owners I have seen - and I have seen a lot.  I never had any issues with advancement or being paid well for the WORK you did.   But you worked. 

Hardest part of the job was time management and that was addressed in the excellent training they supplied from Edge International (at the time) and is still called Business Excellence Certification.

Most enjoyable part was being paid well to play with and sell the gear.  From Cell phones to VoIP systems to boosters...etc.  Lots of ways to "add fries with that" and at the same time solve peoples technology issues and make customers for life in many cases.

You have to sell to live.  If you are not selling you are not there long.  But looking at it this way is not really the whole picture as that takes the fun stuff out.  It CAN work both ways.  And when it does - it is not really work at all.  It's fun.

Bottom line. Love the technology, and be a little techy, and sales hungry or do not work here. The money will come as a result of liking what you do and being totally IN to it.    



While there are many things I could say about this company, here at the main points. 

No matter how hard you work, you will not be appreciated, save for maybe the store manager. Commissions are not good, at all. The staff are nice, management is nice, but not helpful in terms of questions / procedures for many things. You will not get a raise unless you give years of your life and even then you will have to beg for it. The work isn't overly hard, but can be stressful when busy. Overall it's a nice, friendly environment where you will get nothing, even if you're a top notch employee. In fact, you may be told off because other people are not reaching their own targets. They would sooner toss you to the side than do anything to keep you as an employee.

This is an excellent place to work TEMPORARILY. Do NOT stick around with this company. You will regret it. You will get nothing in return for being loyal. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
This was the best company I ever worked for. They respected me as a human being and took care of me. I loved the work, interacting with customers. 

If it wasn't for the store closure, I would have loved to stay. You would do well to work here. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Nothing at all. I enjoyed going in each and every day. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They care about you. They took care of me when the store closed. All in all they make sure you have the tools you need to succeed, which is very rare in today's work environment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I went in, I opened, I went over my duties for the day, checked promotions, tidied up, etc. 

I generally would spend my time helping customers with their cell phone inquries.

I worked there for about 5 years and the only reason I stayed that long was because of the manager at the location. Absolutely do anything for you, bend over backwards to make sure you were comfortable with the job. But after working there for that long, and receiving 1 raise and 4-6 pay decreases in commissions I couldn’t  take it anymore, and I practically had to beg for the raise. They say that this is a career but it is everything but, if you are straight out of school and are looking for something to tie you over it’s perfect, if your looking for a long term job, I would look elsewhere.

Overall working at GBS has been great. The people are great to work with, both frontline and upper management for the most part are great people. However, the opportunity to move upwards, or at the very least, be compensated for tenure at the company lacks, as if there is no real value placed on experience in general despite position in the company.

Payroll isn't scaled up to reflect increases in minimum wage, which in some cases might be earned by performance, or sometimes by tenure, while maintaining the same position.

Very relaxed work environment.  Employees aren't appreciated as much as they should be by management which is made clear from how much they are paid.  Commission is the worst of any retailer with commission.  Overall a great place to work for a period of time but do not recommend setting your roots with this company.

Good work-life balance. Management is quite supportive in all aspects. The only downside is the wages and commission structure but a lot of things to learn from your subordinates. Would recommend only if someone wanna go into entry level sales

I love the variety of my position and the fact that I am assigned new and challenging tasks as they become available. GBS allows me a wonderful work life balance that I have rarely had at previous positions.

I like the management in my location. They are a great company to work for, they are fair and you get a wage plus commission. 

If you like your own cellphone then you could sell it all day, lots of learning experience. You work as a team in most locations. 

This company offers a different type of atmosphere from other telecom jobs. The work environment is friendly and not overly demanding, while the job can be very rewarding with opportunities for growth and positions offered based on visible strengths! They want you to excel as much as you do!
