Working for GE Capital was very educational experience for me. I enjoyed working with a wonderful group of people, my co-workers and superior bosses where open to training me for the duties I had to preform on a daily bases. We all worked as a team and supported one another when inter acting and needing to complete a work situation co-worker to co-worker. 

I did not come to GE Capital with an accounting background, instead I came with an Receptionist / Administration Assistant  background and the skills I brought to the Administrator position was skills and training with over 10 years background working in the corporate office setting. My duties were not limited to answering and directing calls, but multi-tasking, providing professionalism and support where needed or requested  with courtesy, confidentiality, and integrity, 

My co-workers were open to train me the proprietary software programs I would be using to provide precision data entry as it related to volume recognition budget forecast and monthly activities, which were tracked as key performance indicator. Providing different searches Corporate (ensure businesses are registered) or Personal Property Registration (to confirm registration, liens and third party debtors) for shareholders. Provide data entry for account balance details related to a clients account. Multi-tasking photo copying/ scanning and faxing  confidential documents and information.

The hardest part of my job was when the software was not working and my laptop was idle for hours at a time and waiting for help desk to fix it and get me up and running to do my work. Sometimes the calls and work load would be slow as any position. However, my boss would allow us to research on google. 

The support of my team and having a full-feeling purpose of accomplishment at work when entering critical or researching data correctly. Ones results being of accuracy while multi-tasking is good. The aspects of my job position allowed me to learn data where I had never traveled or had knowledge of, and gain new skills and improve skills, and learn something total new and my superior's where grateful.

Also, GE Capital Solutions embraced team building for our office with events outside the office, where we all had to work as a team to get positive results together cheerfully.

GE Peterborough was, at one time, a terrific place of employment.   Unfortunately after more then 100 years of manufacturing, the factory is closing.  Management is chaotic and disorganized.  The employees for the most part, are amazing and work well together.  It was a great environment to learn new skills and there was opportunities to change jobs internally to expand your skill set.  
A typical day at GE involves arriving at the facility, checking in with your fellow employee from the previous shift to find out what is on shift agenda, organizing your day and then proceeding with your workday.  At any moment a new "more important" job can displace any project you may be working on so learning flexibility is a must.  
Training programs at the plant were unfortunately, mostly a result of trying to catch up to government regulations but were generally top notch.  
All in all, I love what I do in my daily crane operations.   Because Peterborough is a custom shop, every job presents a new challenge in calculating lift hardware, angles and safety.  
Working in the nuclear division was a whole different angle, dealing with a spotless, climate controlled environment that requires exemplary attention to detail.  My history of troubleshooting, metrics and mechanical abilities were challenged in a workplace where perfection is the required norm because of the nature of the business.
Both sides of the facility run on variable shifts like most manufacturing.

A typical day at work starts at 8:30, were i start reviewing my e-mail and downlad a report for the outstanding invoices, if there is something urgent it is handled first & then i review & release pending invoices. Later on i send a feed back to different departments with regards to their pending invoices & contact suppliers if neccessary.

In the afternoon i usually handle & create purchase orders for new transactions with the neccessary info such as, quantity, price, location, department,...etc

The management in GE is very supportive & provide you from the begining with the necessary tools to peform & excel in your task, but there is alot that you get to learn when performing your job, as there is always something new in each transaction

My co-workers performed other tasks that were not related to mine, but they helped me learn how & where to search the info i am looking for, The hardest part in this job is the so many deadlines you face to respond for the many inquiries & reports demanded by senior management

The most enjoyable part is that you act a a reference point for many departments & units with regard to invoices & relation with suppliers & all that is related to account payable, so i feel that i am key person in the Co. for collegues & suppliers who is able to help so many individuals

GE is not the same company that it was in the Jack Welsh era.  I leave it to you to determine whether this is good or bad.  There is a significant amount of change ongoing at GE and this is leading to some difficult cultural issues between the legacy mindset and those promoting change and new directions.  There is no question that GE has exceptional technology, however recent emphasis towards digital along with a challenging marketplace has resulted in significant cost cuts in areas such as research and development.  The long term impact of this on GE's competitiveness is yet to be felt.  I cannot say whether I would recommend this company or not, as it is so diverse and has so many different types of opportunities that the ultimate determination will be based on the position and organisational vertical you are in.  All I can say is that I spent several wasted years within the GGO organisation, which I suspect (hope) will be disbanded under the new leadership.

My 8 years at GE were some of the best of my working life. During that time I learned everything from how to lead people and coach effectively to how to build and continuously improve processes. GE has great leadership training programs and if you are fortunate enough to become a manager while working there, you will have the benefit of many of those programs as I had. There have been many books written about GE corporate culture and this is for good reason. I found the culture to be a defining benefit of working there and it gave me great pride. While not always the most competitive in terms of compensation (at least during my tenure,) I found it worth the difference with other companies for the experiences gained and opportunities for learning and advancement.

My review is specific to GE Power & Water.  The business segment I worked in was in Ultrafiltration (UF) technology for water and wastewater treatment, the company was originally Zenon Environmental and acquired by GE Water division in 2006.  The facility is great, and I had the opportunity to make good friends.  I was promoted one time over the 8 years I worked there.  

The management works hard to put on every appearance of a modern organization, unfortunately the underlying culture makes all this just a show.  I cannot say nor do I have enough information as to whether GE culture as a whole was representative of this business unit (thus the high score I gave for Management, giving them the benefit of the doubt).  I have enjoyed my years in this company, I will miss the great chef we had, the sports facilities and great people.

My typical day at work started with big smile on my face to show that i am ready for today's challenges.
I had the pleasure of working with excellent team because everyone was willing to listen to each other and work like a team towards departmental objectives and company's objectives.Everyone was given full time to express their ideas irrespective of position.
My co-workers were very supportive and whenever I find difficulty they used to help me and in the same way I returned the favor whenever they needed me.
The hardest Part would be the last one week of the each month, Thanks to month end activities and reporting where we had to work extended hours to finish our reports.
The most enjoyable part of the job was that every month when our sales target was achieved, they used to brought cakes for every department. Moreover We used to celebrate each other Birthdays as well.

This was a project that kept firing PM's for being honest about the position and reality of meeting deadlines and budgets about the project.   Leadership was in Florida, team in Calgary and extremely disconnected from the actual challenges the development team was facing developing their software.  Cutting corners on "expenses" by hiring teams overseas also lead to severe inefficiencies.  Near the end of the project, works 7 days a week, over 11 hours a day with some 18-20 hour days on deliverables to their customers (pending litigation if not delivered) that had a deadline within a week but were in reality 8 weeks away from being DEVELOPED, not to mention tested and ready for launch.  Leadership seemed to thing that keeping staff almost 24/7 would suddenly improve the odds of delivering on time.

* A typical day at work-   very busy call center depending on the caller.   May sometimes received simple calls and other times, somewhat difficult callers.

* What I learned-  how to read statements and to how explain their bills to the difficult callers.

*Management-   Very Supportive

* Co-Workers-   We were all like brothers and sisters.   We all helped each other.

*The hardest part of the job-   handling with difficult customers who had a hard time understanding their bills.   I would be so patient that I would do the best I can to make them understand their invoice.  if the call was too long,  I would had to escalate the call to either the supervisor or my team lead.

*The most enjoyable part of the job-  helping the clients understand their invoice.   it would make me feel like I've accomplished my job.

Very motivating environment with a great team. 

A typical day would include a customer interview over a credit review or address of concern; training of staff on some new procedure; strategic operations meeting with colleagues and VP.

The most rewarding thing about being a manager is seeing the progress of an employee thanks to my coaching and perseverance, and seeing the team achieve the quarterly sales objective. 
Receiving a customer compliment and thank you letter is always appreciated. 

Having colleagues to convene with is a great support thing, especially in times of short staff or technical difficulties of system. 
The most enjoyable part of this job was being multitasked: managing, servicing and training. 

The hardest part of the job was the fact that it was abolished.
