GRECO PIZZA

The environment is great. Co workers are all high school - university age so it is easy to make friends. There were offers to move up the chain and get promotions but the owners only chose their favourite employees (such as a family member.) The girls were given jobs that involved customer service and the guys were given jobs that involved heavy duty lifting and work. People with impairments or disabilities were often not seen by customers (This seemed intentional as the owner would often shut down their requests to do something other than dishes.) People in charge of hiring is not the best judge of character and has hired multiple people who have made others very uncomfortable. As well as if you are doing something wrong/not preforming your job to the best the owners and managers will remove you from the schedule until they decide to fire you or not. After I was cut off, I heard from friends that worked there with me that the owners and managers were not answering their questions as to why there were no hours for them after about 2-3 weeks and talked/complained about employees behind their backs to other employees or indirectly called people out. Many times there are no warnings given or disciplinary actions. I worked there since this store opened and the Owner did not know my name nor bother to ask it for the whole almost 2 months I was there. I was fired without reason over a text message. They have a habit of hiring a large group of people and then firing a large group of people afterwards. As well as the training sessions went over how to make the food and work the cash but did not explain how to answer the phone or correctly communicate with customers about complaints or reimbursement. They had a paper saying what to say to customers but they did not actually say what workers need to do in an event of an upset customer. The only good thing about this place was the co workers and the managers willingness to accommodate student's schedules. In all I would not recommend working here for as it is not great place and communication between workers and owners is horrible.

A typical day at Greco would include going in at 9:00-10:00 am and it would open at 11:00 am.
So when you first get there you would turn on all equipment oven, sub toaster, dough proofer, sub bun proofer and oven, then you would take all sub buns out of the freezer because they have to sit for an hour before it can go in the proofer. Then figure out how much pizza dough is left from the day before and how much you need to make. Start mixing the ingredients in the mixings bowl for a batch of dough, figure out what you need to do for food prep and make a list, as well as find out what you need to do for prep in the captain sub prep table. Make sure all bathrooms are cleaned and the front lobby, tables, chairs, floors, and walls. If there is any delayed orders which are ordered ahead of time to schedule for certain times they would like it ready for then we make those and put them in the fridge to get it out of the way. Mostly everyone who worked there were team players and got along pretty good except for a few people. The part that I enjoyed about the job the most is the fact that there was always something to do and that you weren't standing around.

Here, we had to come in, count tills, count the delivery float, cut up onions, green peppers, etc, Fold boxes. Make sure everything is clean, check washrooms. Dough was done during the day. Make sure things are stalked for dinner rush. Do more dough. Take deliveries. For closing it was just cleaning all the equipment, dishes, closing down tills, sweeping, mopping, balancing tills, and locking up. I learned that it takes a lot to get things ready for a whole day of pizza making. The prep takes at least 2 hours and you have to really get good at dough because it is easy to mess up. Really easy. Our manager was for sure fantastic. She just about ran that whole place with just her assistant manager. I mean, did even more then the owner!! The hardest part is always the customers. The nasty, mean ones who cant be patient when a huge rush comes and they may need to wait for 10-15 minutes. We certainly aren't out back by water cooler while your order sits unattended, That job was also awesome because of the staff. And of course the added bonus of getting to drive the delivery car. And the tips from delivery driving!

The job is what it is, been doing this type of work intermittently over 20 years.
No complaints about co workers or management - but the pay is a joke.  In my areas it breaks down like this: $7.99 delivery fee - driver gets $6.  No gas allowance no nightly guarantee and tipping is low to non existent.  Even before factoring in the cost of gas alone it doesn't pay minimum wage.  Prior to finding a regular day job - and even after I have had to request advances on pay to afford the gas so I can complete my shift.  If you're looking for something to do between jobs to keep yourself from going crazy - this may fit the bill but honestly - I would make more money if I sat home and did nothing half the time.  If you want an employer - look elsewhere, if you're looking to volunteer your time, run your vehicle into the ground and provide a service to those that could care less - then this is an amazing opportunity!

It's hard to say what a typical day at Greco was like, as it was a pizza place there were some days where there would be a crazy amount of orders and others completely dead, from this I learned both extremes of customer service as well as using a cash register and computers. As for the management, it was sub par. To be fair this was fairly new and young management so they didn't have much experience, however myself and two peers that were hired alongside me found it difficult to get shifts, not to mention we had little training, overall it felt like management didn't care. the hardest part of the job was finding available times to work as it as the store was a bit over-staffed. one of the most enjoyable parts of the job were talking to customers who were friendly back to me, however the free pizzas as well as a half off discount was probably my favorite part.

this is the biggest mess you could ever work at employees are treated poorly and the managers get over involved in their employees lives it's a overall terrible environment with toxic people. all the employees also smack talk each other its just a bunch of high school drama at a work environment. the managers are also after commenting on employees body's. I ended up quitting because of the over involvement of them trying to be apart of my life. they refuse to pay overtime, they have mold growing in all sorts of places it's just a over terrible work place with terrible human beings running the joint.

the manager had poor communication skills with team members and did not have a schedule ready in advance. The job itself was amazing, but the manager did not clean or care about the work environment. Team members were expected to work whenever they were called in which was typically 10 to 20 minutes before a shift knowing we lived fairly far away from the store. the manager did not text or call me back and failed to let me know if I had a job or not. The head office of Greco pizza did not help the situation. Still, do not know if I am fired or laid off there was not a warning at all.

What i learned from this job, that it's hard to please everyone, but you try and do you absolute best to make the costumer satisfied and happy with their order and visit. A typical day at work would be opening the store and start to organize the store a bit, from refilling the prep table and stocking up the pop machines, also putting away any big orders that comes to the store. Also making food for the costumers and having to make dough everyday. My management and co-workers, were awesome, it was like a big family, there was hardly any drama at our store, it was great.

No supervisors, no managers, only the boss, which included the actual owner, his wife, and their daughter. Many safety and health violations, awful management of supplies. We ran out of many food products and basic cleaning supplies. No hair nets, not enough hand washing, items that would touch the customer's food were never sanitized or treated with care. Utter disregard for the Greco standard and for customer service. Overall impression? First day on the job, I put my hand down on the counter in the kitchen and came away full of slime and grease.

Greco was a great place to start my work experience, it’s a friendly fun environment with lots of great workers, it gets busy at times but it’s mostly relaxed the duties and tasks of employees are split evenly with everyone working, the only complaint I had was the owner of the store who wasn’t always there is very strict about talking and everything else, I also found that the owner was way more fair to female employees than male and often talked about employees behind their backs.
