What is the best part of working at the company?
It was close to home. The only other positive thing I experienced with this company was the severance pay I received when I was terminated for filing a complaint of harrassment with Human Resources. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There are four to five over-paid Senior & Regional Managers that don't actually do anything to help any of the staff. Senior Management created an imaginary bonus structure that was not paid out upon achievement of agreed upon parameters.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic, toxic, toxic. The General Manager of the property didn't introduce himself for SEVEN MONTHS and then proceeded to enter my charged establishment only when I was not present to take pictures and lodge complaints with my equally useless Regional Manager. I was also made to complete a kichen renovation with zero assistance from any of the facility managers.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Fixing the mistakes of Senior Managementand and an ineffectual HR Department. Lots of phone calls and emails from vendors not being paid promptly.

I would not recommend working here. In my experience, employee well-being and long-term retention do not appear to be a priority, as there is a high turnover rate. It has always been a very toxic environment.

There is also a tendency for leadership to be heavily involved in day-to-day operations and love micro-managing, which can create challenges with consistency and decision-making. Many decisions and initiatives feel rushed or not fully thought through, which can affect team morale and progress. 

While there are opportunities to work hard and gain experience, I found that the overall work environment could become toxic due to internal culture and turnover. I would encourage anyone considering a role here to carefully evaluate whether it aligns with what they are looking for in a workplace.

Easily one of the worst places you will ever work. Upper management is out of touch and do not value employees. Many divisions are failing because the wrong people are managing them and because ownership does not want to get out of the way. You will feel undervalued, overworked and not compensated enough. They will work you to the bone without appreciation. Staff seem miserable and there's a culture of toxicity. The people who do the work get no credit. Ownership and upper management have managed to alienate the cities they try to partner with and have become a running joke. They've hired the wrong people to lead multiple divisions. 

I worked here for 4 months in Oct/21 to Feb/22 and that was long enough to know this company treats you like a piece of meat. They don’t give you adequate training at the beginning and leave you to figure things out on your own. There’s no teamwork among coworkers or management ..the newbies get told about all the things they do wrong and nothing they do right. And if you call in sick, like for Covid, you get the third degree from management as the their expectation is to come into work no matter what. Toxic is the best way to describe this work environment and company..why else do you think they’re always trying to hire for the same position..and the pay is half decent

This company is doing so much hiring because people keep leaving!! Sadly everything they tell you in the interview process is a sham - the culture is terrible. I say this to warn other people. I’m looking for another job. Been here wayblonger than I should’ve and put up with low wages, little recognition or understanding of my job, all only because of my family and kids. A few managers are good however the ownership and other leadership don’t got a clue on how to treat staff. 

GSL is such a fun and collaborative place to work. It's super fast paced and challenging and at times stressful, but the variety and scope of projects is amazing. If you are looking to put in hard work and are passionate, then this is a great company to work for because they are involved in so many industries.  Also management is very supportive of creativity and challenging the status quo ... it's privately owned and it's not super corporate which is great because less red tape!

The job is very flexible and has good casual part time hours, however management is in a bad place. No clear direction, trying to cut costs and save money ultimately bringing down the company. They will pay you less than your counterparts based on certain criteria that constitute discrimination, and are unable to explain why. Empty promises are often made and there is a lot of unprofessionalism and issues within the company.

If you like to keep busy, this place is awesome for that as they give you lots of different cool projects to work on. The staff is friendly and collaborative, not to mention the flexible schedule and being able to work independently. There's not much micromanagement that allows me to really flourish in my role. The location is also very transit-accessible with lots of great amenities in the area.

As a project manager in construction there really are no typical days but they start with a gameplan and list of tasks to execute and follow up with. The managements, staff and work environment makes this a great place to work along with the company culture and getting out to events as groups as well as company hosted events. 

Revolving Door. Just ask them to share their retention stats. Poor performers stay, top performers leave because of bad workplace culture. New resignation or leave announcement every week!

Management also picks favourites. leadership never praises or recognizes employees, only rewards higher leadership instead of staff who actually does the work.
