Typical day for a site dispatcher.
1) arrive 15 minutes early for insanity while you overview the previous shift and sign in.
2)  1 hour 45 minutes covering short comings in previous shifts, scheduling problems with staff, and listening to complaints from tenants, co-workers, supervisor, and security staff.
3)  Dependent on the previous time block you could spend anywhere from an hour to 8 hours dealing with issues arisen.
4)  System checks; usually take about 15 minutes for experienced personnel, unless there are work projects than it could take up to 2 hours.
5) Cleaning the office for an hour.  Other shifts were obviously not very tidy.
6)  Recording everything said on the radio, recording and dispatching for contractors and cleaning staff, recording and controlling emergency systems and building equipment, recording any video of interest, and monitoring all sensors in sky rise for issues to be recorded and dealt with prior to building opening.  (For 12 hours)
7)  Receiving and investigating complaints about security staff.  Taking action when necessary. (about 15 minutes to 4 hours)
8)  Staffing for holes in security teams while they occur.  (0 minutes to 6 hours)
9)  Reading all Incidents, updating when required. (1 hour)
10) filing (15 minutes to 6 hours)
11)  Dealing with at least on problem per shift.  Emergency response, theft, something other.  (2 hours)
12) prep for 15 minutes of crazy for relief shift (1 hour)

What I learned;
I learned what to be flexible and deal with customer problems efficiently.  I learned that I was needed in the role I was in.  I learned how to recognize and develop people in the roles they needed to preform.  Lastly I learned I would have rather been more active than I was but, still in a lead role.

Management
In management you are taught it is better to wait and see rather than take active steps to reduce chances for bad things to occur.  It has to do with budgeting.  Risk management is not seen as of any import to most companies except as an afterthought.  This is why they are assigned the smallest budget to work from.  It also is associated with Health and safety but, somehow seen as a different thing entirely (marketing).  It was disappointing how seeing how the machine runs and not people ensuring my hands stay tied.  Even more disappointing was being told, "don't rock the boat".  Sad thing to tell someone taught to report thing they see that is wrong or could be improved.

Co-workers
Good people but, fit in three worker types.  The first is the star.  A star knows everything they need to do and what you need to do to help.  Hey preform well but, seldom allow help from outside because they set the bar higher than the industry has.  They are very hard to keep happy and even harder to satisfy.  They commonly have problems with all other types of workers and are comfortable were they are at work.  They all claim they want to continue in the field or improve themselves in new fields.  Most of them achieve that if they don't stay in the industry long.  Like themselves, they seek improvement of everyone else, but are unwilling to assist in that because of worker type two.

Type 2 worker is the reason movies, TV, and every other type of media sees Security as dumb, not willing to work, and foolish.  They don't care about work at all but, pretend to.  Often they show up late, don't do the job, and don't listen or respond to concerns.  Worst of all the scoff at any evidence you accumulate and don't take you seriously until you threaten to fire them.  When that occurs they break down in front of others to ensure no actions can be done.  Most of these people don't understand even basic instruction, making them impossible to work with.  Unfortunately at least 1 to half of the crew fits in this category.  After long exposure to these people cycling in and out of the revolving hiring door, you make a type 3 from a type 1.

Type 3 is a type one with no motivation to do more than what is required at best.  At worst they see how the Type two's can get away with murder at work and decide that some or all of these traits make sense to incorporate into work habits.  Unlike Type 2 they are reasonable and will do the bare minimum to keep employment.  They scoff at anyone who still feels they can make a difference.  Sometimes they even make it into a pool to bet on or a game to see how long a Type 1 will last.  

The hardest part of this job
It has to be marketing and people management.  Most would say conflict resolution or enforcement but, I found in most cases in the security industry balancing what you are allowed to do, with how training is supposed to look like when finished made us look more and more like idiots.  It was more than a full time job dealing with Type 2 and 3 workers add the Management attitude, and up hill budgeting opportunities and you have the wall from The Hero of Haarlem the difference is the wall constantly has new holes to fill and always more developing.  I always felt I could not ever do enough but I keep trying because I'm not the type to give in or give up.

Most enjoyable part of the job.
It has to be the time to learn.  I read thousands of publications, studied from text books of interest in many fields far outside security.  The things I am most interested in are civil engineering, architecture, rocket science, and medicine.  I'm sure I could preform a few basic task in those fields if I wanted, but it would not be legal for me to do so.  I don't claim any certification in any of those fields and i obey the laws that guide them because I'm a security geek.

I also enjoyed meeting professionals from all walks of life.  Each time I learned a little bit of what it's like to live in their lives and what they think of unimportant things in my perception.  i.e. light timing programing; hint the light switch over rides this 100 percent of the time.  

I digress, thank you for the opportunity to chat on my most experience field, Risk Management.  I hope it was enlightening for those who never get to experience it from the inside.

Preface: All I ask of an employer is to be paid for the work I do, treated like a human being while I'm there, and left alone on my days off.

I don't think I am asking for a lot.

Garda cash services fails spectacularly on all of those expectations.



You will start out as a "casual" which is just another term for on call/part time. You will have lots of work in the summer, and go weeks without a call in the winter. They want you to be available though, and can call you last minute, so forget about having another job. They want you to sit on unpaid on call. It doesn't matter if you have bills to pay or mouths to feed. The requisite monthly availability they demand will completely preclude you from having another part time job. That's right, part time at Garda trumps part time everywhere else.

As a casual, you are paid less than a full time employee. If you are working with a full time employee, there will be tension because of the different pay structures.

As a casual, you are paid by the hour, so you have no incentive to rush. Full time employees are paid by the shift. If their shift is ten hours, and they get all of their work done in eight hours, they get to go home and still get paid for ten hours. The full timer will pressure you to rush so they can get home, which costs you hours.

After a while (months, or years) you may make it to a full time position. Now you will get benefits. No raise though. They negotiated that part out of the collective. You will make top rate after 6000 hours. If you are under that when you get a full time spot you will stay at your tier until you hit the next thousand hour milestone. If you start out of the gate as a full timer (never happens), it will take you three years of working 40 hour weeks, with no vacations to make top rate. It takes a lot longer as a casual.

As a full time employee, you bid on a position. Vault, road, driver, or messenger. You bid on what fits your needs. If no one more senior to you bids on that spot, its yours for the duration of the bid. You get a steady start time. You know your route. You get steady hours. Pretty sweet, eh? But wait, you're not out of the woods. At the whim of management, your shift could be eliminated, forcing you further down the list, along with everyone under you.

What does this mean? Well, you could be on a Monday to Friday shift that starts at 5AM, then on Sunday afternoon, you can find that you have been "bumped" out of your spot, and are now expected to work THAT SUNDAY NIGHT starting anywhere from 4-7PM on a 10-13 hour shift.

Sleep? Family? Hours of work? THEY DON'T CARE.

You will sit through their lean times (and sit you will, because the availability they demand, even if they never call you, precludes you form having another job), and work yourself to the bone during their busy times.

You will also be forced to undergo an experimental medical procedure that you didn't want. Drive unsafe trucks. Be issued expired body armour. Be forced to supplement your own gear and uniform items, then be reprimanded for having non-company issued items. You'll work harder when they win new contracts (but aren't prepared for the extra work (bite off more than they can chew), and let go when times get lean. Or in the most recent case, let go when things have never looked better.

In the end how will your loyalty be repaid?

Effective 23 days before Christmas, despite landing a massive, decade long contract, they will lay off half of your branch. Don't worry though, you will have a choice; you can go work at another branch, or, you can go find another job.

That's right, you can have a 2, 3, 4 hour commute, or "just" pack up your family, sell your house, and move closer. Or, you can just take the lay off and go find another job. No biggie.

For months, they pestered current employees to recruit friends, and family members. They even paid bonuses (with strings attached of course). They put an even higher bounty on Brinks employees. The bonus for luring one away from Brinks was double that of a friend or family member. Recruit someone. Lure them from their job. Take your bonus (blood money). You both end up out of a job. Imagine having to face the person you helped to recruit.

They won a big contract, hired a bunch more people, and bumped everyone up to full time. Part timers quit their other jobs to be full time for Garda. People bought homes to be closer to their now FULL TIME career. Some pulled the trigger on new vehicles. Now they are all laid off indefinitely. Garda knew about this for months, and left everyone in the dark, and then with the MINIMUM required notice, they spring it on us.

Take take take take; that's all this company does. Nothing is enough for them. Everything is skewed in their favour. There is no 50/50, no give and take. Your time on the clock. Your time off the clock. Your bodily autonomy. They lay claim to all of it.

You are treated like one of the parcels that you are expected to deliver. Shuffled here, shuffled there, shelved when they don't want you, kicked around, dispatched as required. Your life, your feelings, family, your bills, your home, your life is not worth a bean to them.

I applied to work nights. They pulled every string to force me on to days. Garda got its way.

When I found that I actually preferred days, one supervisor made it his mission to get me back on nights. Garda got its way.

People try to avoid working in the vault. The more you fight it, the more they orchestrate it. Garda gets its way.

I chose to work in Peterborough over Mississauga, and, now they're forcing half of the staff to go to Mississauga. Once again, Garda gets its way.

This company has no concept of boundaries. They don't respect your time off. If you indicate that you don't want overtime, or, have other commitments outside of work, they will continually call you to ask you for overtime, or, to deal with company related issues. You have to either shut your phone off, put it on do not disturb, or block the managers until your are back at work. They just won't leave you alone.


A lot of good people are now out of work thanks to the heartless, and thoughtless management of this company. 


I want to write this review because I want to warn people about this job and this company. I applied to be a pre-board screening officer in August 2019. It took a full 4 months for me to finally start the job. It was a very long and frustrating application process. Frustrating because it was almost impossible to get a status of your application. The recruiters never respond when you try and contact them. I got them on the phone a couple times and didn't get much information about the status of my application. It was a long 4 months but I figured it was worth the wait because the pay was good. I was wrong, it wasn't worth the wait. When I finally started working, my employment lasted 5 days. I literally got fired after 5 days on the job. My first time ever getting fired. The company is notorious for firing people who are on probation for very small infractions. There are quality leads who stand behind you and watch what you do. If they don't like how you move (which is more often than not) they report you to HR. In 5 short days, 4 hour shifts a piece, I had 3 reports sent to HR, which caused them to terminate me. I didn't even get a warning. And one of the reports was false!!!!!!!! At this job you need to say hello/bonjour to every passenger. A quality lead was standing right behind me, so I was even more diligent to say it to every one. After a few minutes, he said to me, "I only heard you say hello/bonjour once" I was like no that's not true!! I say it to every single passenger! He reported me anyway.  Even if you have your hands in your pockets, you can get fired. There are cameras everywhere, you're constantly being watched and monitored, the job is extremely repetitive (you have to say the same speeches to passengers a million times), no one seems happy to work here, and the company will drop you for nothing when you're new. I heard of one employee who literally got fired ONE DAY before his probation ended. It's just not worth the time to go through this long process, just to be let go. Once you get hired, there's still so much work to do before you get certified. There are constant evaluations that you must get 80% on or higher or they fire you. I didn't get to that part because I was only there for 5 days, but in training we were told about it. You can go through all the written evaluations, pass them, then in the final step the managers will watch you for 3 weeks to see how you are on the job. If they don't like how you work, you're fired.  No one is safe. The union can't represent you if you're new. Keep other job options open! Don't rely on being able to keep this job. There is also excessive rules when you're new. You have to be checked/ screened/ go through a metal detector every single day before starting your shift, even though you're not a passenger. You have to do the same thing again when you come back from your break. It makes no sense. The managers suck and the passengers are rude. Even if you finish probation successfully, pass all the tests and evaluations, and become certified, you still have to deal with being reported for little things, and then the union gets involved. This is a stressful job you guys. I wanted to write this because I wish I knew about it before I applied.

I started my journey at GardaWorld as a Tactical Scheduler a few years ago. I really liked the job! It paid the bills, and my coworkers, and managers were super friendly! I moved to Portfolio Scheduler about a year after joining based off of my work performance. I still quite frankly liked the position, however sadly that is where all the positives end. The turn over rate is beyond bonkers, and managing OT for that is near impossible. You are dealing with clients, internal staff, managers, administrative work; entering coverages, keeping track of staff pay rates, bill rates, payroll, pay complaints, tracking opens, new hires, training, attendance of all staff under your portfolio all while providing excellent customer service ON TOP of all the never ending coverages, and opens, and you are blamed for anything that goes wrong as a portfolio scheduler. You can be an overachiever, a hard worker, dedicated to your role and it will not be noticed. Everyone is looking out for themselves, and you will be left with nothing but stress, anxiety, and the feeling of toxicity among the workplace. You will be hired most likely at a higher rate than loyal employees who have been there for years (hence no visible pay rate- they gotta hide it from the current staff just in case they look it up; not that the money you will get for the workload with equal the pay. Seniority. Does. Not. Matter.), and that might seem like a great offer but you’ll end up in the same boat in about two years. During my time there, after my initial switch in roles, for the next three years we were given no raises, however our workload kept increasing, along with expectations from upper management with no incentive in sight. Efficiency. Is. Not. Rewarded. If you do your job well, and are efficient, you clearly do not have enough work! The only increase you will receive will be MORE work with no upside; FUN! They are good talkers though! They will charm you in with false promises of change, and doing better if you do stand up for yourself. We were told over and over that there would be yearly raises, however not once did that come true. Everytime it seemed like it, management would switch, and we’d be back at square one as the new management could not approve anything unless they were overseeing it AND the benefits are a JOKE! Relationships built with clients, staff, internal managers hold no merit in performance evaluations even though those are what renew business, keep moral high, and turn over low. I am forever traumatized by the work ethic, and company politics. I wish I could say I’m being over dramatic but if you do choose to join you will see for yourself just what kind of work environment this company pushes onto its employees. My fellow coworkers were amazing that is the only upside to my time there, and I hope they are being treated better! At the very least I hope this gets them the recognition, and support they deserve.  

P.S: if you are applying as a Security Guard you WILL NOT be treated humanely, and the people who will try their best to help you won’t be sticking around for long! Good luck and stay safe! 

I was hired at the Mississauga branch as a casual hire, and what a waste of time it was working here for 6 months of my life. The entire facility is unmaintained and extremely dirty, the amount of black dust everywhere is a major cause for concern. The locker rooms are extremely filthy to the point that if you drop any of your black uniform on the floor for even a second, they will have dirt all over them. All their equipment is either damaged, faulty, or jury-rigged to barely work.

Their entire system is ridiculously out-dated and everything is done manually in a program that looks like it was made in the 1980s. The trucks are constantly on the brink (pun intended) of falling apart, and there is always issues with them. The managers are very disorganized and really don't care about anybody besides themselves and maybe the full-time guys that lick their boots. 

The work culture is absolute garbage. People will step over you to get ahead, so trust no one. Everybody is talking about you behind your back, so if somebody starts chit-chatting and asks something like how many shifts you got this week, just don't tell them. They will complain behind your back and you'll either get shifts cancelled or receive not as many the preceding weeks. Don't make friends here, just do your job and go home if you are really that desperate. Everybody here is a back-stabber.

If you have the pleasure (sarcasm) of working with a full-timer, they will rush you to get the job done because they get paid their 10 hour shift regardless of how early their work is completed. As a casual you will be expected to do the hardest & heaviest work and then either stay behind and work more or go home with less hours. The union is protecting them a lot more than they're protecting you, which is why there have been no improvements to the business in the last 20 years, because the senior guys have it very easy and the union won't budge. 

You'll only be given inconveniently timed shifts, most of which will be spent on your knees slaving away hunched over putting giant stacks of money inside a machine like some kind of technician, or carrying heavy loads of coin and cash like some warehouse worker. This is not a Security job, and just because you have a gun people seem to think it's a status symbol, but trust me... this job is not glamorous. 

The job is so inefficient. I would constantly be finding myself making stops that I didn't need to. I would open up an ABM that hasn't been used in an entire day, take out all the cash, and fill it with the same amount of cash that I just took out, all while wasting numerous amounts of paper, plastic, rubber, and time. This job could be so much more if they restructured and upgraded their business structure.

Overall this is one of the worst jobs that I have ever worked. I could keep going on and on, but I don't want to relive the nightmare that it was working this job.

Everything was going well when I first signed up, got the full uniform on the spot at the interview, agreed on a site I would go to and went home after being told I would receive an email confirming everything that was went over, the schedule ETC.

What I didn't expect was having to constantly email and call going straight to voicemail for three days just to get the email two days before I started at the new site, and whenever I try to reach management they never respond until the 2-3rd time I try to reach them.

When I get to the site I find out that there is no office, nobody to meet me on site until I called then they showed up 15 minutes after starting, no bathroom access on site and they actually expected me to bring my own vehicle to sit in in-between patrols when I was hired specifically knowing I had no vehicle. It is also a 12 hour night shift in Ontario Canada which isn't the warmest so after hours in the cold with no relief except for a poorly heated stairwell that reeked of weed you start to freeze, I lost feeling in my hands and was uncontrollable shaking as I couldn't warm up. That's not even to mention that Downtown Barrie Parkade has some "regulars" one of which is apparently violent and aggressive and also the area is known for it's drug problems with junkies and the like roaming the area with nothing better to do.

With no office access they expect me to kick these people out of the area if they don't have a reason for being there then want me to sit in an open area with no safe place to retreat to and call the authorities if anyone decides to come back violent or with friends when we live in a world where people decide to obtain a gun or knife and just off someone because they answered a way they didn't like. Not to mention having to walk 10 minutes off site just to use a washroom when I have to do patrols every 30 minutes.

Then I get told they had the office but another guard cost the entire crew at the room so instead of the single guard being punished or switched to a different site every single guard lost access, that the company was going to have a meeting with the city of Barrie to address my concerns about my placement and various others and have heard nothing since.

Now the person I have to email is gone for the week with no warning, I have no work since I have to wait for them to contact me, and I don't have enough experience for another security company in the area to hire me.

I have no idea how any other location works, I heard most are in the same boat, so the Barrie area should be avoided for Gardaworld. Do yourself a favor and apply to another security company or if you currently work there as a guard, jump ship and find somewhere else unless you like the conditions you already have.

I worked as a security dispatcher in the Ottawa office. The behaviour from "management" was unbelievable. The management would cuss at security guards and dispatch staff on a consistent basis. They would also spread rumors and gossip about all staff. Working there was almost unbearable. 

I recall when a new member of the dispatch team was added, and instantly the gossip began. The new girl had an issue with the gossipping environment so she took it up with management within a few days of starting her new job. The management laughed in her face and as soon as she left, the management began screaming to other office staff, calling her a lying b**ch, saying that she's a loser, that she is going to get fired if she can't keep her anorexic mouth shut - all while a line of customers were waiting in the lobby, and they were hearing the entire thing.

The management are bullies. If you EVER brought up an issue to them, they would make your life miserable, and they would degrade you and put you down in front of the entire office. They would also take away your hours if you brought a concern to their attention to 'punish' you. If you emailed manager privately about an issue, everyone would know by the next day, because they often read personal emails out loud to mock you.

They were also VERY racist.
The management would consistently tell me "book a GOOD guard for "location", they have to be white and they have to actually be able to speak english. Don't give ____ any shifts, he can barely speak English and he's f**king gross and I'm trying to get him fired."

They would also bring up past and personal stories about specific guards and tell them to the entire office. Saying that "guard _____ is a f**king loser. He asked for a break because he needed to pray. Once he started praying in the hospital during a shift because we wouldn't give him a break to go do it, he took his socks off and got on a mat and started praying. How f**king disgusting, who the f**k does that"
 
Often times guards would come in to have a union meeting. When the guards would be sitting and waiting for their meeting, a manager would come into the dispatch office and tell me about how stupid he is, and that she's trying to get him fired because she doesn't like him.

Other than issues with management, I loved my job and I loved interacting with guards and customers. The only negative ting about the job was the management and office environment. 

Working at garda world was a horrible environment. Management constantly put people down, it was an extremely negative environment. I do NOT recommend working in the Ottawa office.

Firstly, the hiring process itself wasn't the most difficult of processes (with some of the people I've worked with, its a wonder that they even got hired in the first place). The real emphasis during the tests that they administer is being able to identify objects in sample x-ray images followed by grade school level tests, quite frankly the latter seemed more of a joke than anything else.

Once you get hired on and finish the training, the hours you initially get are up in the air and unfortunately you don't get a say in it. Can't start work at 4AM? Tough luck. It only slightly improves as you work your way up in seniority and bid for slightly better hours every few months. The HR person they had in charge of scheduling when I was there was finicky at best, if she was having a bad day, so were you. 

The job itself isn't particularly difficult, as long as you follow the procedures, then the pay is well worth the job. You get the occasional unhappy passenger coming through, but its really to be expected at an airport. Benefits were great too, had the full cost of prescription glasses covered (went with really nice lenses and frames too).

Co-workers were generally okay, however, it seemed generally split in terms of the time of day you are working. Early morning to midday you see the more strict types working, whereas later day to evening you see more relaxed and easy going types. My advice would be to stay away from the early mornings; not a happy bunch and for good reason. However, in general the workplace culture isn't one that's based on keeping the public safe, far from it in fact. During training they push the idea that you play a big role in aviation security (which I'm not doubting), but most people there are more concerned about job security and pay before public safety.

Management itself was questionable at best, you had a few decent people that genuinely cared about employees, but most of them seemed disconnected from those that worked under them. The quality checkers were a joke. One in particular seemed to make up new rules as he went along and had people written up for it; maybe he had a quota of write-ups to keep? Who knows. One major issues with this particular individual came to a head when he wrote up a co-worker for a procedure that 99% of the people I spoke too had no idea existed. It got to a point where management had to address the matter and essentially put that procedure into effect in order to curb the growing discontent. 

If you work in the security industry, this might be a job worth considering. Pay-wise I made 30% more than compared to working a standard security guard position. But I personally would not work this position again.

Ive done 3 years of service here, and i regret everyday of it. This company will call you in all hours of the night and ask/beg you to cover sites across the GTA. You will be paid $14 dollars an hour and forced to either work downtown core late night or other dangerous neighbor hoods overnight. There are more sites that pay a little more but those are very  hard to come by and you wont hear of the openings unless you call and ask every day. they are normally only used to lure people to come in for interviews and stay for a bit until your lost in the pool of other floaters bouncing form site to site across GTA just trying to make a living off 14 an hour.

 Furthermore, You will be the minority if your are not Indian. Fellow employees well they will find ways to get you released from the site to get there friends, family members and own people there so yeah beware of that. You will also need to Prepare yourself for long 12 hour standing shifts and boring desk work with short breaks and late night patrols in sketchy parts of Toronto. 

Moreover, The Call center that is suppose to help the guards is just Horrible, they Mostly don't speak English fluently and will have you on hold for 15-40mins depending on how there feeling that day before answering the phone and acting like they don't hear you and abruptly hanging up. You will be pulled from the scheduled shifts and then written up when you don't show for them.  And don't even get me started on Payroll, they will pay you wrong most of the time, they will pay you the wrong amount for your hours worked and they will try and cut your hours so always keep track of them.

In addition, Management is sadly a joke  and will treat you like garbage. They don't trust you and will always believe you are either lying or not doing your duty.  but when you need to get a hold of them they don't even respond until days after...2019-08-26 i sent an email to C*a*g M***s....regarding a site to work at full-time, as advised from the Call center that i was suppose to wait...Yeah Still waiting on a reply from him, regarding it. Another example i sent a few text and made multiple calls to an account manger on the 2nd of December and did not get a reply until 8 DAYS after...

To sum up,  this company doesn't care about you, you're just another number easily replaced..your life and safety comes after Garda's own agenda. you will not matter and will be treated like garbage. Just keep looking on Indeed you'll find something else and if not, go out and hand out Resumes. you don't have to put your life and health at risk for this company Because at the end of the day Your title may say full time Gardaworld employee but your really just a Temp.

I've been working there for 30+years, had experience in almost all departments. Unionized environment. If you're asking why I still work here after reading this...i'm retiring soon.

Typical day: You get to work, pick up your equipment & gun, verify everything is there, look at your stops (realized they overloaded your run again & clients will be mad...again),  sometimes you can give the extra stuff to another team (which are probably newbies excited to have some hours), than you pick your favorite truck (if available or if not find one of the few that is still working), go to the vault & bring the bags to your truck, drive to the different stops (clients are usually respectful, cheerful to see you, but also 3/5 of them complain daily about the company's so call client servicing. I usually apologize by saying "sorry ma'am/sir, they're cutting again"). On the upside, If you're quick, you have guarantied hours (only for full timers), meaning the faster you finish the faster you go home with full pay.

Some of the GOOD:
If you're full time "you're in the money". 26.34$/hrs, health insurance, pension plan. You can find some friendly coworkers, lower management, clients. Now for the BAD:
For people thinking of working here know that you'll be part-time for ever...i'll take 20ish years to get a full time, they may promise you 40+hrs but its a lie. Your salary is 37% lower, no insurance, no pension. You'll get used by management, asked to do favors, but will forget you once some other newbie comes in. No work/life balance. Night & day shifts in the same week. You'll need a second job for sure, but problem is they want you to be available almost 24/7 or you'll be reprimanded. 

Higher management has 0 respect for employees. Some of the lower management tries their best to be friendly, uplifting, respectful with unionized employees , but the companies core culture is one of cuts and incompetence. No investments in personnel, equipment, trucks, IT. Only the short term profit line is important. The cash division of the company is eating itself from inside...

Union is incompetent & lacks backbone. Take 2-3+ years to get a conclusion to a grievance. Too friendly with the employer. Never available when you need them. No transparency.
