I'll start with the few pros about the job: you will not be expected to work weekends and receive a solid discount in their retail store (which rarely will carry decent essentials like boots or hygiene products)

But everything else. Oh boy.

8hr days stretch when you're expected to handle a line of customers out the door while also displaying an entire auction and watching the retail store. Only 2 employees worked the front desk doing all of these tasks, so we were regularly stretched thin. Understaffing meant that we could not always finish displaying and checking the full auction, which we would then be blamed for. Auction items regularly include upwards of 8 - 10 major appliances like fridges, ovens, washing machines/dryers, etc. Auction items were loaded onto a large cart and required to be wheeled up a loading ramp which is highly exhausting. Large appliances are regularly wheeled out back, leaving the front desk woefully understaffed for extended periods. Nobody else in the building was expected to work to this degree but CSR's were regularly degraded. Management randomly attempted to restructure the entire operation once during my time there, refusing to heed any warnings from every staff member. The new setup failed miserably, and guess who cleaned up the mess? Not management.

Keep in mind this company also has a long history of laying off it's employees when the unstable business model doesn't hold up. They are attempting to move into other sales markets with varying success. Job security is tenuous.

All of this labour and degradation is not worth minimum wage! There are far better opportunities out there.

I have been working with Gardner Auctions since December 2022 and have really enjoyed my time here.
I can tell from what I see that people are expecting a job like this to be pretty laid back, and it is. But there is a quota you are required to meet. Once you have a few weeks under your belt, the target is easily attainable.
It's an easy job to learn, easy to master. Quite repetitive so you have to be prepared for that.
Management is top class. I can personally say that my direct supervisor has been an absolute blessing to me. I've enjoyed my time here so far.
If you want to laze around all day from home, this probably isn't going to be the job for you. There are high stress, challenging times that you need to be prepared for. Worst part of the job was a couple of negative dudes, one in particular listing the clothing. Would make stuff up and lie about EVERYTHING. Aside from the couple of bad apples a great place to work.

Avoid this place like it's the plague. Management is a joke and not a funny one, owner is MIA 99% of the time and you are expected to make zero mistakes. The pay sucks, no benefits and God forbid you hurt yourself while working. Better learn to walk it off quickly. There is so much favoritism going on it's absolutely ridiculous. Not all "rules" and I use that term loosely apply to everyone. You are only considered "valuable" to them until they have sucked the life out of you and you begin to despise working every day. They do not give you the tools you need to do the job successfully and then blame you for not performing at a level they expect. You will be written up for whatever they see fit with no rhyme or rhythm. Do not expect to have your full break time either but those in Supervisor and Management positions can have all the breaks they want, often exceeding the 30 minute allowed time. 

I have worked at Gardner Auctions for just a little bit over 2 years now. In that time we have been through 3 managers for front end service. 

The newest Manager treats front end service staff like they are expendable. Schedules that were once consistent have become irregular, Questioning Management decisions are met with a response, "No one is holding a gun to your head to work here." 

Hours have been cut. which has led to uncleanliness around the store as we no longer have time in our days to do the extra tasks. 

The work for Front End Service is not that hard, it does involve dealing with unhappy customers sometimes, as the Auction house has pretty strict Return Policies which makes for unhappy customers. The work is honest and Fair.






I had a terrible experience with this company as they failed to provide proper training and written policies for their staff. Consequently, many staff members were written up, punished, and even harassed by management. This situation has led to a toxic work environment where employees felt uncomfortable working under management's supervision, causing some to quit their jobs. The company's lack of accountability has resulted in a decline in morale and productivity, which is unacceptable. I strongly recommend that people who are considering applying for a job with this company look elsewhere and choose a company that values the well-being and professional development of their employees.

During my time with this company, my experience left much to be desired. The management seemed dated and unable to understand their own systems, which led to confusion and frustration for both employees and customers. Additionally, the lack of acknowledgement for employee efforts was disheartening, and it was evident that management lacked the social skillset to provide constructive feedback.

Moreover, I would like to caution anyone considering working for this company that their safety may be at risk, both mentally and physically. In my experience, the company did not prioritize employee well-being and seemed indifferent to concerns raised.

I worked here for about 6 months and I hated every minute of every day here. The management has no clue what they are doing and its very apparent.

The company is on a downward spiral and has a hard time keeping staff because they treat everyone so badly.

You get paid in a physical cheque like its 1990, and there are no benefits. If you are sick or take a vacation day you are guilted into working on the weekend to make up for it.

Two employees in the warehouse (checker and warehouse supervisor) are extremely rude and made me uncomfortable as a woman. The actual manager in the warehouse is also terrible to her employees.

Do not recommend at all

I worked here for two years as a checker. The biggest issue here is the mismanagement and toxic employees, there are multiple employees that seem to want to make it as unpleasant as possible.

No benefits and no direct deposit. Yes, you get paid via physical pay cheque.

As a checker you lift quite a bit of heavy stuff and some products can be pretty gross and used. It is not worth the stress of dealing with management and two specific employees in the workplace.

Turn over is very high in the warehouse positions due to the above reasons.

I enjoyed working here. I did the data entry/photography position and it was overall a pretty easy job. Of course the job comes with its challenges as every job does. Aside from having to meet a quota they are pretty laid back. What I'm grateful for with this job is that they gave me a chance when I didn't have much related experience. Because I gained data entry experience at this job, I'm now able to enter a job doing data annotation working from home. 

Owner lacks manners and could care less about the people that work for him. Expectations are too high and tools required to succeed are rarely easily accessible. Communication is minimal and often employees are left guessing or expected to read minds.The listing supervisor/owners sister refuses to improve/change/do anything which hinders company growth and efficiency and the owner doesn’t know enough about day to day operations to know the difference. The turnover rate is way to high for being as easy as it is.
