A typical day consisted in resolving issues related to the packages under my responsibility. To resolve these issues I had to coordinate activities or actions with the client, other people in GLE and the Vendors.

I learned how to interrelate with the Vendors to get the packages on time, in the budget and with the quality specified in the bid package.

The hardest part of the job was to incrporate latest changes in the packages requested by the client without affecting the delivery date.

The most enjoyable part of the job was when I have recognition for a good coordination job and the package delivered on time.

In my opinion if you are a new employee do not have high expectations. As with my personal case, manhours were assigned to friends and tenured employees and had nothing to do with experience or performance or membership to APEGA.

From my experience, I found that the project management team is below industry average in terms of technical competence and fairness. Pressure to meet deadlines without industry norms like quality checking and technical competence.  

New employees can fee like outsiders and not part of the team. Sometimes this can be stressful and frustrating. 

Excellent pay if you know the right people. 

I felt like my skills and knowledge was not valued by my supervisors or management. 

During the interview process, the manager said I would get full time hours but when I joined the company this was not the case. Full time hours went to the long term employees. I was very disappointed about how I was lied to.

I felt that nepotism played a role especially when it came to assignment of work and who go the most manhours. I saw many of the managers' sons were hired and I felt they did not contribute equally to the work assignments and were given more privilege that other more qualified engineers/designers

A typical day at work for me is to show up and do my work.
I learned that to advance in the company you need to befriend the managers or have family that work there.
Management is and will always be terrible there because there is really no such thing there.
Most co-workers are descent except for the ones that didn't do there job and rely on you to carry them...typical.
Hardest part of the job is the lack of leadership/knowledge from your superiors.
Most enjoyable part of the job was the location. Not downtown.

- Lack of diversity among management and leadership (old boys' club
- Unrealistic schedules and poorly run projects by PM and PE
- Opportunities for promotion are minimal unless you worked for the company for a long time.
- Too many technologists. If you are an APEGA engineer expect to stamp their work for minimal hours while the technologists get all the manhours

I like to start early and leave early also. They have flexible work hours so life to work balance is good. Get your work done on time and on budget everyone is happy.

I work with a good group of people so this makes the day enjoyable, lots of stories and laughs. 

The hardest part of the job is the long commute after work on the Deerfoot, but also gives you time to unwind after a busy day.

Over all a good company to work for.

This is one of the best places I've ever worked.  Unfortunately the oil and gas industry is very volatile and that leads to project uncertainty, this is strictly due to the oil and gas industry and our current Canadian economy.  This market uncertainty affects all aspects of the oil and gas industry and it's out of our control.  GLE does whatever they can to bring in work but there is only so much that can be done in a decimated industry.

GLE has a great team and very family oriented, the work culture consists of positivity and encouragement. The management team is wonderful to work with, always supportive and great mentors. Unlike other Oil and Gas companies supervisors at GLE actually listen to you and your concerns, they address the issue or concern right away and make you feel important and not like a number. 


I was hired in the Civil/Structural Engineering group as an EIT. Overall I say it was a pleasant experience working on different projects. One of my complaints is that the Civil/Structural  engineering department has mainly Spanish speaking engineers. You many not feel part of the group if you do no come from that background.  Hiring also seems to be favoured for those who share similar background as the hiring manager

There were many good things I liked about working here at GLE,  competitive wage and benefit package, flexible work hours, remote work one day a week, free parking just to name a few. 
Management do encourage  professional development and team leads are supportive, they do make you feel that you are being valued here.  
Overall, there is nothing really negative I can say about working here, highly recommend it to anyone looking for a rewarding career.
