I came on board with a vast experience and background in distribution. However, I found the GM of YEG is involved in hiding facts and selective in his approach. He targeted those who he didn't like regardless of their work ethics. Evidence of theft on the job was provided to him on several instances and he gave the employees in question a benefit of doubt. He also worked on projects without a clear priority in mind and did not do any follow up. He showed his senior management that everything was great but in fact it wasn't. Through out my time, I didn't receive any praise for my work despite my long hours or extra work to get the job done. I will never recommend him to any one nor will I work for such a person in my life. His management team included some persons that were not qualified and were getting a free hand due to his selective targeting.  The work place was a terrible example of a plant that provided catering to the best airlines in the world. The GM should have been removed long time ago as he was in the footsteps of previous management who I didn't work with but heard numerous stories about their malpractices and other unprofessional work ethics. Overall the company is not a bad company but the Edmonton branch was the worst place to work at due to the senior management. I will never go back there as I have nightmares of the place. You will be surprised that your work is being judged by a person who doesn't even know your work and is unable to support and ducks you. There were instances where my boss left me face the heat directly from customers when there could have been a better explanation of things, had my boss knew what was going on.

The hardest part of the job would probably be trying to meet managements unrealistic expectations. They constantly nag and pick on the same people all the time and never say a word to the slackers. I watched a few good new workers leave because of the bullying by other employees, which managers stood by and did nothing about. That being said a lot of the problems are not the fault of local managers who are being micro managed from Toronto and Ottawa. 10 years ago this was a great company to work for, now since it was bought out its been downhill ever since. The biggest problem is the airline industry itself which doesn't care about people, safety, or customer service its all about driving down wages as low as possible. If there was ever an industry that needed a 15 dollar minimum wage its the airlines. Unfortunately this company wont be around much longer due to lower cost competitors taking all the contracts away from them. Which will forever suppress the wages of the workers in this industry and line the pockets of the CEO's and rich airline executives even more.

Typical day at work: 
- Create a daily planning for airlines to be catered, 
- Ensure proper amount of personnel required for daily operations, (ex. replacing sick calls) 
- Answer clientel phone calls 50-60% of the time
- Follow up and make changes to the planning according to flight delays, mechanical or aircraft changes.
- Assign drivers their schedules and update on daily work / important events/ tasks/ training,
- Advise kitchen/ final assemblers of constant aircraft swaps or changes of galleys,
- Verify galleys are ready to ensure proper delivery before aircraft departures.

The satisfaction of doing an excellent job everyday in what could be described as crazy by others.

One of the way to tell how good a company is to work for is its ability to retain talent.  I keep seeing the same job postings coming up for GG over and over again in the last few years.  This must make one thinks what they do to employees to make them leave so often, especially when these postings are mid-management positions.

The General Manager was a tyranny, had little knowledge of the food industry and still ran on the 'iron fist' management style from the 70's. Senior management is so focus on labour cost that he does not see other important aspects of running a food  business, such a quality, waste, and employee morales.

I would not recommend this place to anyone that already have senior management experience from other progressive companies, it will just leave you frustrated and feel suffocated due to the micromanagement style from the top. However, it can be a good stepping stone for freshly graduates.

Like many large company, how good is to work there depends on your immediate boss and the exact location you are working in.  I am not going to put the whole company down, but the location that I had a brief encounter with was not a place I would suggest. The senior management was not transparent, he micro-manages (like management meeting daily!)  I have been in similar role in a similar size company, and I meet with my senior staff once a week, not daily!!!  My first 90 days there, the GM wants me to suspend close to 20% of my department!  When I voiced my opinion he decided to discharge me.  Furthermore, during my time there, I told him that we should look at the quality of food we produced by doing taste test (like most food manufacturing company that I headed up), his comment was that we never got our audition marks dotted because of taste!!!  Good grief, that's what we are feeding the airline customers?!!!

Great place to work if management didn’t lie to right from the beginning they hire you only for the busy season and push you out when it slows down. If you notice they always hire in February-March to get you ready for the summers also in there job description they say that you need to be available for shift work when in actuality it’s only afternoon (3:00-11:00pm)
The family life balance is poor you never see them,
If they were to have rotating shifts then this would be a totally different story. unfortunately your never there for more than one season and it just doesn’t work for mature family people trying to provide for there families. For me I quit after a very short time because I saw right through the lies and didn’t want to waste my time.

It was a good experience, something to put on a resume. Defiinitely not a high paying job. School bus drivers don't receive the respect or the pay they deserve. Supervising children is a big responsibility. The most enjoyable part of the job was knowing the children were delivered safe and sound to their parents at the end of each school day. It's a job that requires great concentration and vigilence.The hardest part of the job of course was dealing with difficult children, back talking, throwing things out the school bus windows etc. I was mostly on my own, therefore I did not have too much interaction with my co-workers.

This place  is by far the worse place to work. The air conditioning hasnt worked in years so with all the ovens and dishwashers the temps are up in high end of 40s. Your not allowed to have water only on breaks. It is unsanitary and they treat their workers badly. At 3am in the winter the temps are in mid 30s . The garbage room is so dirty its impossible to strip the layers and layers of dirt off the wall. Management is very hard to please or work for. The worse job ever. Ypu have a union but it's a joke. They get do many complaints about the Hslifax location, they ignore it all. Stay away
 They say free meals bit it comes off your paycheck.
You go to work try to hold up to the heat do your work and leave.
They supply the air crafts with food , beverage, condiments.  The meals are cooked fresh daily.

What a joke they let go of the employees with whom were willing to work a few days a week since they can’t guarantee you stable work for the entire year. And now are looking to hire employees at a lower wage with inflation so high. STAY AWAY from this hypothetical place. Union is  good for nothing there they only protect their own interest and not the employees hence why so many couldn’t go back because we know we will get all laid off again at the end of the summer peak travel season. Managers are selfish and only think how to “run each other under the bus”. Too many family members working there. So everyone else is not appreciated
