Hired to be an accounting supervisor but trained to the AP and AR clerk (along with almost cashier duties).  Resulted in difference of opinion (however employment contract states "Manage and supervise" not "Prepare A/P", so according to Webster's Dictionary, contract doesn't reflect job reality. Computer systems are poor, inefficient and duplicated.  Just know that promises of advancement and efficiency measures may or may not become a reality.  Job is too overwhelming; they need more people, not less. Basically: Buyer Beware. 

The company has little to no diversity in the work force.  The processes and systems are out of date as the company is slow or unwilling to change.  Poor communication with departments and management.  Wasteful of paper, as there is no care for the environment.

The hours are long especially when there are few jobs. The management is really friendly and outgoing and all your co-workers are just as nice. Being efficient here is a plus and the hardest thing here is getting over a kickback and moving an 8' board to the table saw.

Go to the warehouse and build customer ordered cabinetry. Used all kinds of woodworking tools. Management was laid back which was good but they were also firm on deadlines. Co-workers were very knowledgeable. Best part of the job was we could work on personal items when we had extra time. Very difficult to build high quality with cheaper materials at times.

I've been with Gem for almost 4 years now.  I've worked for a lot of cabinet companies over the past 20+ years and hands down this is the best.  Usually 7:30am-4:30 is typical.  Management has an open door policy and is always willing to work with you / help if needed.  There never seems to be any drama between employees and we have a lot of laughs.  Feels like family here.  

I've worked at Gem most of my 20 yrs in the workforce. Left for a few years earlier on but came back knowing that it was a good company to work for. I love the fact that it's locally owned and operated. Also just a great mix of people here. Proud that we are top in our industry amongst our competitors and known for our strong customer service which I am a part of.

Warehouse staff are the bottom of the barrel to this company. Top manager is arrogant, condescending and looks down his nose at warehouse staff. Other managers aren’t much better, culture of “I’m better than you because I make more money.” 

High turnover in warehouse due to low pay, risk of injury from being rushed by manager and poor benefits.

I started in the shop learning how to use a cordless power drill and now I am a Journeyman.
Before the day ends, i am excited for the next day to come already. Working is not all about the pay, its the culture and the families surrounding you, that is all that matters to me. My work = My Happy Place Too.

I had the pleasure of working for this business . They made me feel like family, management very professional, friendly and family oriented, my wage level was absolutely acceptable, and my work/life was balance was comfortable. I would work for them again.

A good place to be, but physical issues prevented me to go further here. Couldn't get the support I needed to feel comfortable and communication and transmission of responsibilities were missing. I'm being nice.
