General Assembly Pizza

Working at General Assembly Pizza I realized that it is a great stepping stone for people just starting off in the restaurant world to obtain a better position at any other restaurant. 

There are two really big issues that the management team are completely blind to. 

The first is that the company refuses to implement tips. It doesn’t need to be a lot but anything would help the staff that are there making minimum wage. They do accept cash tips but all that money goes towards a Christmas party at the end of the year. The problem with that is that there is such a high turnover rate that no one actually gets to experience it. 

Second, is the management is extremely bizarre. From a severe lack of communication, catty gossiping, to invasion of privacy by means of the general manager and owner watching and listening to staff using the security cameras. Everyone there agrees that the management is definitely the worst part. 

With all of that being said, there can be a great experience to work with some great people and gain experience working in a “fast casual” restaurant. 

My advice is to give this restaurant a pass. Most people who do get a job here usually only last a few months. Might save you a headache.

The Team at General Assembly Pizza are thought leaders at the finest! They continue to unlock the best of my capabilities and provide a space for me to be the best that I can be while helping to move their business forward! I collaborate with a very lean team across Marketing, Operations, Customer Experience, Engineering, Retail, and everyone is so welcoming, positive, inspirational, fun, and smart! The company shares its successes every month with our "Around The Oven" series, where everyone in the company is welcomed to partake to celebrate our successes making us one big family! 

The vision of the company is easy and clear to understand so I know what I need to do in my day-to-day deliverables to help achieve our goals. As we have WFH flexibility, I continue to feel recognized for my efforts which makes me feel inspired to continue to always deliver my best work!

I mean, who doesn't want to work for the best pizza company in the World? ;) 

Do not waste your time. Work culture is very poor/non existent. 
Higher ups do not care about the floor workers. They promise to help during services but never deliver. This place pays well but it is NOT worth the time or effort. The owner is super controlling and unwilling to listen to employees/management. 
Was hired upon the idea of a full service restaurant and it ended up being counter service. The bar is embarrassing and sells canned cocktails for the price of handmade cocktails you can get literally  anywhere else in the city. Priorities do not actually include the restaurant because the frozen pizza (gross) is more important.. luckily the fresh pizza is actually really good. 
All in all if you have experience in a kitchen or serving this place will absolutely disappoint you. 
If you are a beginner, you will learn a good amount about the quick service industry. 

I absolutely love the job, there's always something new to learn, whether it's proving yourself that you can maintain leadership and learn how it's done in GA, or so in other words, if you can prove yourself you have a place in GA since where GA is right now is amazing compare to a year ago. The workplace is very pleasant, the team is always smiling and friendly, and we all make sure things are done well, with an equal amount of energy for all the team members. Having to take control and show your talents is more challenging than saying it's hard, you will feel proud of yourself and the company will reward you in any way possible. The managers are very friendly and they always make sure we are in a happy environment.
All-in-all, working at GA is such an opportunity, for building new skills, and having to make pizza in the most professional way possible.

If you have any kitchen experience, this job is not worth it. No schedule consistency (both in time and date), jobs and tasks can vary on a hour-to-hour basis, with no tips to look forward to and a deducted pizza you wolf down on your 30min break. Did not receive a contract upon getting the job, and the manager was dumbfounded when I brought it up 2 weeks later. Switched from pizza-maker to morning dough-maker (7am opening shift) without being told about how to open the restaurant (i.e. lock combo, oven procedure, etc.) This place cuts corners every chance they get, treating their workers like dispensable assembly line workers rather than valued kitchen staff. Also still awaiting my T4 after calling more than 3 times...

GA values PEOPLE over anything - always working towards creating a better culture, have many outlets for employees to voice feedback anonymously and the managers care! Plus the pizza is YUMMY. 10/10 experience being here so far!

The workspace is comfortable & exciting and the free pizza everyday is both a blessing and curse. 

Management has no idea what they are doing.There is zero communication between staff and management. They understaff to the max and make you work sometimes 14 hour shifts with no breaks. They also have a tendency to give you a raise and never actually give it to you. You will work every station. Cooks will even have to run the takeout counter because they don’t want to staffit.

Working for General Assembly Pizza has been a wonderful experience and the leaders at this company have afforded me many opportunities for growth. In the midst of a pandemic they were not only able to offer me employment but also mentoring and training. They have invested in me as an employee by supporting my education and working with me to accomplish my goals. 

working here is nice, the pizza is so good, although the shift keeps changing not a good thing, hardest part of the job is the temperature inside the production, super hot. The most enjoyable part of the job is you can eat pizza everyday.

loved my coworkers and the banter within.
Hours were scattered due to random busy times and who was on vacation. 

Issue with breaks and validity of shifts/payments for not taking breaks
