The hardest part of the job is navigating complex situations with clients, especially when behavioral challenges arise. However, the training and support provided by the company make these moments manageable and turn them into learning opportunities.

The most enjoyable part of the job is witnessing the progress of clients and knowing that my work has a positive impact on their lives. This sense of accomplishment and purpose makes every effort worthwhile.

This job will take over your life. In the homes, you will often work 50-60 hours a week with shifts varying on 12-18 hours a day if a kid is having a tough time. I missed birthdays and other major friend and family events. You get it in your head that it’s normal to work this much so you just stick to it but it is the last thing from a healthy work/life balance. The culture surrounding the agency is to not complain or discuss issues with your superiors. Most complaints are met with being told that “this is the job you signed up for”. You are left feeling not listened to. The responsibilities put on the staff are a lot and you often have to go above and beyond your job description. The kids you support in the homes can be aggressive and many times the staff working were not adequately trained to deal with it. I witnessed my fair share of injuries that could have been avoided with proper training. When people do get injured the response is just “When will you be back”. You are rarely asked if you are okay, or if you need to speak to someone about how the (sometimes traumatic) event affected you. When you talk about a bad situation that happened, the response is to downplay it and tell you that it’s not that bad: “I went through a worse experience so you haven’t seen anything yet”. Again left feeling unheard.
Positives- The frontline staff are all super supportive and encouraging towards each other. The pay and benefits are also quite good.


Genesis Support Services is a difficult place to work at. Your consistently stressed; They don't train properly for the position. ....No direction, you have to learn on the go or learn from other coworkers. The Supervisor does not do much.   when you do it on your own you get a coaching email saying you should ask for support. Some staff are great but they leave quickly ...... Your mental health will suffer! It's a toxic work environment that will cause you to suffer. They ridicule you at every corner. high turnover rates. Everything is done with favoritism not on actual ability. Supervisors and HR will just sit and gossips. Staff  treated unfairly. Get used to sending emails for every discussion you ever had because you'll get approval to do something and after doing it get an email from the supervisor stating you weren't granted the go-ahead...after they verbally told you to do it ...its a minefield of bureaucracy.... It's micro-management + no direction = burnout and PTSD SAVE YOUR MENTAL HEALTH AND WORK ELSEWHERE  

A typical day at work was well defined. There is no ambiguity, I knew what was expected of me as a staff. I learnt that speed and timely delivery of my services was paramount. My Manager was always accessible for guidance and on the sport management of issues as they arise. Her coordination of activities was always top notch. I appreciate her manner of approach in getting staff to put in their best efforts. Staff debriefing was encouraged. Workplace culture is good. Managing client is the tough aspect but being trained makes one able to contain issues as they arise. The most enjoyable part is working for a supportive management and achieving positive outcomes with clients.

I started with Genesis in January 2025 until August 2025.  My time there has made an immense impact on my educational and professional journey. My manager relentlessly supported me, and I always felt comfortable asking for guidance and feedback. I was met with incredible opportunities to support youth and families with various needs, which enhanced my skill set in relationship building, de-escalation, and person-centred care. Since I am also a full-time student, it was challenging to balance work and school commitments - although the scheduling and contracts are extremely flexible, I left solely for the purpose of dedicating my focus to school. I would absolutely work here again! 

This job COULD be great.. if the management would put in the effort to care more about their employees instead of treating them as just a number. They are horrible. The office is so unorganized it is embarrassing. Management is awful, beyond awful. If you apply have everything in some form of email or on paper, they will go back on everything they say they lie to their employees to get them to work. It could be such a rewarding job but this employer is just awful to work for, not worth it find someone better to work for. This place makes coming to work everyday hard, you don’t want to come in. 


Managers who will throw you to the wolves with inadequate training and PPE.
Toxic managers and work culture.
Scheduling is all over the place with some staff getting very few hours or working a ridiculous number of hours.

There is no Structure for support 
untrained staff working with high risk clients is often asking for an injury

The work is also Highly physical to the point where you are expected to lift fully grown adults on a regular basis with what can only be described as hilariously bad training 

Working at G.S.S has taught me valuable work-related skills and has helped me grow. Senior management is toxic and there is a lot of clique-y behavior amongst staff… if you don’t fit in, you will get pushed out. Cruel behavior is considered acceptable from some, while others get reprimanded. Senior management is also quick to believe one side of the story while completely dismissing the other.

The pay is bad. Really bad. Especially once you consider the high stress environment every day. 
If you decide to work here,. Take care of yourself, and be wary of toxic management



while many of us are equipped and experienced with handling the jobs and clients we get, genesis support services sets front line staff for failure with lack of support, lack of communication and the odd sense of them doing something suspicious. The managers gaslight you and will rarely ever thank you for their support aside from one particular manager. The youth are not difficult as dealing with management. They’re hiring for these pointless positions .
