I was nervous when the geomatics department of WSP was branching off to become GeoVerra and even more nervous as the changes to the systems and processes started coming.  But the change has been positive.  As we continue to battle through the pandemic restrictions we have seen an increase in work load.

It was great to have had the chance to move from the field into the office and continuing my upward mobility.  Looking forward to getting into obtaining my OLS and CLS.

Local managers are engaged with the team and eager to improve the quality and quantity of work required of all staff.  The majority of the surveying being the things that my last companies were afraid of:  high precision, 100km mapping missions, terrestrial LiDAR, RPAS photo and LiDAR.

I only wish we did more construction.

Despite of how young this company is, it’s unbelievable how quickly they are becoming on of the top survey firms in the Ontario region. Their success is mainly based on a small team with incredible talent and technical knowledge. I have been project manager for over a year now and I could not be happier with the team and resources I have. In this year and despite COVID-19, I had the opportunity to support survey activities for different projects using UAV, mobile LiDAR, terrestrial LiDAR and high precision equipment for control surveys. I have almost 10 years of experience on this business and I truly believe this is the place to stay if you want to grow.

Getting into a field position is a bit of a commitment. If you desire to travel this is a good job to take. Since I got hired, I have traveled to six provinces in Canada and seen so many places I've never been to before. I've also learned a lot of different surveying concepts from the other crew chiefs that I've worked and traveled with, they will support your learning journey if your committed to the job. There is a commitment since your shifts are sometimes long and you can be far from home (I have had up to three weeks in a row on a few occasions). Expect to do more industrial surveying than residential or property surveys. Management is hit or miss, helps if they've had previous experience surveying in the field. 

Not enough training at work since everyone works remote and only rely on microsoft teams to communicate. If you don't get anything you will have call your co-workers or the project manager for help. Since they are busy all the time, you won't get too much help, they think you know it all. But, when you get a correction back from the checker, the project manager would put the blame on you for not asking a lot questions. Also, they can lay you off without cause from no where, so they can cut down on the company budget..

This is a place that encourages workers to grow with career advancement. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Complex field practices, especially during the winter activities.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Safety and Welfare of the staffs with promising and standard clients deliverables.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day is like every time I had my plans accomplished.

The interview consists of being asked whether you can handle being out in the environment for the majority of the day. This includes all weather conditions. 

As this is an entry level position not much if any experience in the related field is necessary. 

Started with GeoVerra early 2022, I will work for GeoVerra until retirement. I have the highest respect for the GeoVerra Management and Crew Chiefs as they are very understandable and helpful. 
- We see so many different towns, cities, provinces etc. That I wouldn't normally get to see.
- I truly feel like I am working for a second family while traveling.
- If you don't prefer long work hours and a close commute, I would not recommend this job. 
- Overall great culture friendly environment 


GeoVerra's flexible workplace program for office team members provides a great work-life balance. I'm trusted in my role to do my job with very little direction and am empowered to take on new initiatives to support our overall strategy. Even though we've been working from home throughout much of the pandemic, I feel connected to my co-workers and supported by my peers. The thing I love the most about GeoVerra is being able to contribute to a new company, through strategy development and building the culture/community.

GeoVerra was a great place to work. I wish I could have stayed longer, but tariffs hit the company hard this year. Management is excellent and supportive, and easy to get along with. Compensation and benefits are very good. Good culture and events, and GV truly cares about employees. I would definitely return and work there again given the opportunity.

I've worked for many survey companies. A lot of them I was not happy to work with and did not feel supported. This one is different. 

This is still a new company and everyday it gets better and better. The processes improve, we get new equipment, and the people care, at all levels. They have opportunities to give back to the community as well as getting to know your colleagues.
