Geological Survey of Canada

I loved the work at GSC and the people there. They truly care about doing the best job they can in the most efficient way possible. I know that sounds opposite to what you might expect from a government agency, but it's true. The only thing I was disappointed about was that they terminated my contract early which meant I had to say goodbye to my colleagues whom I had worked with for almost 3 years. I really miss working there.

A day here in the lab is every day full of research, experiments, experience and management. my colleagues are wonder full.
I enjoy doing more research than laboratory measurements,  which are sometimes hard and kind of routine.
what i found really interesting in this job is that we are developing and improving new methods for the state-of-art in physical properties measurements within the mining field.

There is so much great stuff to say about this place.  I loved working there, I loved my work.  My supervisor would ask everyday how I was doing, he never hovered, but he was always available for assistance.

I was always leaving work late because I wanted to finish my work.  That's how much I loved the place.

the hours are usually flexible. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
you are Constantly asked to do more than management is willing to pay you for.   They promise you will be compensated and or promoted but you never are.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is horrible, just not good.

I enjoyed my time working at GSC. There really wasn't any hard parts to this job. I had all the resources I needed to make deadlines. The management and co-workers had a great working relationship.

Maintains status as one of the world's premier geoscientific organizations. Conducts research across Canada in a wide range of disciplines in support of public safety and economic development.

People work in our team are very nice and would like to provide help for me. Even I am a temporary project student there, I have chance to work for their project and to practice skills in using Snap software, ArcGIS and Envi

Overall, very bureaucratic. Lots of funding for research projects if you know how to play the game. Some groups work very hard and produce good work. Some live a very relaxed life and take advantage of the benefits.

I have learnt a lot about operations, administrations and managements at GSC. Work life balance is really good, people are friendly and supportive and helpful.

The work setting by the water was nice. However, it was a government job, so salaries are low, especially for students. The work culture was good and not too stressful.
