That's the honest start of it.  You will be working within a non-profit organization that does AMAZING things for community members looking for help for their addictions in a system that is underfunded, underlooked and misunderstood.

And yet, you are in a position to still make a lasting difference to somebody.

Working here, as frontline staff, you will have strong connections and will build eachother up.  
If you keep eachother close & strong, you will be happy to come to work, despite the stress and safety concerns that are present at this job.

You will have days of constant overdose response, with constant elevated or distressed community members. Lots of interaction with EPS, EMS, Fire and HELP teams as well other outreach organizations.

There will be violence at times , there will be threats, but you will have your training, and you will have a team to support you.

But more so you will experience a type of human kindness you didn't know existed in the community, you will start to understand their stories.

Management plays a strong role to help with training, support systems and their own frontline experience, but lately communication has been limited amongst the teams, which can create confusion and distress amongst workers and the community members.

There are lots of overtime opportunity, lots of shifts available if you find yourself as a casual.

Night shift: Manager On-call, Limited staff, A night supervisor to assist if needed and varied security experience at the door ranging from Inexperienced to Very experienced.

Safety/Maintenance issues, though usually communicated, seldom go serviced in a timely manner.

  This Job is tough. It's emotionally and can be physically demanding. The extremely approachable Managment understands this and supports us any way they can. The benefit package reflects this support, but it's the direct contact from managers and directors that really makes you feel supported. 
   The staff are all people who genuinely care about the community we serve and would go above and beyond to improve the life of our clients.
  I am so grateful to have had the chance to learn from and work for the George Spady Society. 
   
 

Management needs to get out from behind there desks and see more of what staff are doing in the work place. 12 hour shifts need to be reviewed in some high stress/dangerous positions dealing with safe injection site. Needs more attention to detail working with clients, A lot have mental challenges and try to manipulate staff and management in getting what they want. Clients need to be kept more busy, seems they make contacts while here and then !!!! hits the fan when they come out and get together.
Management needs more training with mental health, to many side with clients to make them happy so they do not want friction between them so there rules are not consistent.

Good team atmosphere. Supportive management. Parking is provided which is always a big deal for me. My work hours are pretty good and flexible if something should come up. I feel like if I ask for something I'd probably get it but I don't expect much beyond the usual job parameters. The pay is decent and the benefits program is the best I've ever had. I've just ordered new glasses because vision care is included. Strong EAP if I should ever need it. I have made some really good work friends in the brief time I've been here. Workload can be heavy at times but it's been like that my whole career. I prefer to be busy as it makes the day fly by but I don't feel overwhelmed. I would recommend George Spady to any of my colleagues who might be thinking about applying.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I enjoy working here. I find staff and personal management are really good as long as you do your work and are good at finding things to keep you busy. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I don't find anything stressful but I know that if you can malty task that this is the job for you and you will fit right in

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
very busy at work every day doing all kinds of things to stay busy and have the support to be able to have a great day

This is the most toxic work environment I’ve ever been in. The staff are very gossipy, chicky & 2 faced. Management plays staff off each other & if you dare call any higher ups out on their toxic behaviour they find any small reason to fire you. There’s no mental health support after they are the cause to most of your issues. They’re always short staffed with high turn over rate due to the horrible treatment of staff by other staff & management. They never have the proper supplies to do your jobs setting you up for failure from the start. The small amount of money you get paid is not worth ALL the stress that comes along with the job. 
Don’t do it.

Spady is a probably one of the better non-profits to work for in the city. They promote harm reduction and try to remove barriers for vulnerable people. It’s a great place to build relationships with community members. 
Spady also has a better pay scale compared to other non profits for the same type of work. And it‘s easy to move around the different programs within the company if you want to a different role. There will be some stress because they work with vulnerable and complex individuals, but I’ve found management is supportive of my mental health, and increased their mental health coverage in their benefits plan. 

With the NEW management,everything turned into nightmare working in this agency.No experienced in handling staff professionally,if they don't like you...you're gone,you need to follow there rules like you are a puppet.
they listened and believed in gossips,no chance to say your side.some staff are all stressed and burned out,but management says,just quit if you don't like working with them.no support was given to staffs with that new Senior Manager. 


Good benefits, but poor management & workplace culture. Staff were unsupported, lack of care for staff's wellbeing. Front-line workers were frequently expected to take on duties outside their role. Leadship lacked professionalism and accountability, and the high turn over appeared to reflect the ongoing issues within the work environment. 
Team Lead and Program Manager were both just bullies. 

Never developed any safety with any of the employees as they are stealing from the homeless, very unprofessional they have no cultural protocols and they are only looking for short term employment not a place to grow. Be prepared to work for a hierarchy of unprofessional unsympathetic people not genuinely worried about there clients they are in it for the Almighty dollar. Not all but most.
