Awful place to work.

None of the managers know what they’re doing, so they just do a little song and dance to distract you from the fact that the company is a sinking ship and every employee is one bad day away from leaving. Which is funny because management will also tell you that “everyone is expendable”.

I would say use them as a stepping stone, since no one wants to work here it’s easy to get hired/licensed… Except because the company is a constant revolving door of employees, the people training you are either too new to know what they’re doing or too miserable to care about doing their job properly, so you’ll end up sucking at your job.

There’s 0 opportunity for career advancement. To be a good employee all you need to do is make the company money, but if you make the company money they have no reason to promote you because you’re nothing but a number and a dollar sign. As a result of this, initiative and hard work are rewarded with higher expectations and more pressure to make the company money.

Everybody is underpaid, top technicians at Georgian bay make the same amount as entry level technicians at other companies.

At a time where literally every single company is looking for good help, I cannot think of one single reason you should work here instead of one of the many other fire protection companies.

I was initially excited about the opportunity but quickly realized the culture and management was absolutely terrible. I was isolated by the caddy environment in the office and when I brought it to management’s attention, their solution was to allow me to work partially remote rather than address the issue directly. I received about a week and a half of training before I was left to figure things out alone. The wages were not equivalent to the expectations set by management. Management changed and at my 3 month review, they tried telling me they want me to schedule jobs for an entire different area on top of the area I was already covering as well as be a clerk for the office since my office was “closest to the front door”. The kicker is that they expected me to do the work of a whole other employee for no extra incentive. Overall, this job is probably one of the worse I’ve ever had. The technicians I worked with and scheduled jobs for were generally wonderful but the office staff and management made this environment terrible.

I was recently hired as an electrical apprentice/CFAA trainee for the company. In the interview I was promised fire alarms training while having the benefit of completing my electrical apprenticeship. I had agreed to *occasionally* working remotely in order to complete some electrical work, since more local work would begin shortly.
It came to be that they wanted me to work full time in Windsor, while I am based 3.5 hours away. I declined, and said I would be happy to do it occasionally as we agreed. Two days later I was called in to the office and let go. The management's short-sightedness got in the way of having a great employee and an asset to the company.

Everyone I worked with at the company was great, and my colleagues were a pleasure to have around. Being blindsided was not fun, and I urge anyone going forward in the future to take what they promise with a grain of salt. Make sure to get any agreements in writing, as they will not honour verbal agreements.

If you want to be a CFAA, just get your trainee card online and work at literally any other company. You’ll make more money for less work and less stress.

If you want to be a sprinkler fitter, don’t even bother because you’ll end up sitting in a van waiting on material or you’ll end up doing completely unrelated work. Either way you’ll end up with no employable skills, and considering the state of the company… you might as well just go lock yourself in a burning building.

If you want to be a scheduler don’t bother because literally anything that goes wrong is your fault and you’ll practically make minimum wage.

Management will give you tight deadlines and rush you, but also not give you the proper equipment to do your job in a proper/safe manner.

Moving up is impossible because management won’t promote anyone that threatens their cushy jobs.

All in all working here was a complete waste of time.

Worked in the office and everyone was kind and respectful. Always someone around to talk to for any questions or issues that arise.
Management was understanding and accommodating of any requests (time off, etc.), even going above and beyond at times.
Started out as a family company and still has that feel in how coworkers interact and the company events that were put on (e.g. bbq lunch).
Occasionally had to search for work when I was caught up on everything, but coworkers seemed happy to teach some new tasks and receive help when asked. Was offered the chance to go home early on the odd occasion when it was slow.
Sounded like they were looking to expand with the new owners, which could create more opportunities for employees.

Not too long ago, it was a family owned business. Work was okay. Along came Georgian Bay Fire and Safety, they bought the company and it is no longer a family run local business.  Oh sure, what is more Canadian than Georgian Bay?  Its NOT.  Its based out of Atlanta Georgia USA. And now numbers matter. They always did, but now numbers really, really matter. 
I was in tears the day I left Georgian Bay fire.  They were not tears of sadness however,  they were tears of joy.   I do not miss their work sites and I especially do not miss the managers.  
Most of my co- workers were really good to work with.

Difficult personalities working in the office. One of the first things I was told during my initial day one orientation was "you're here to make us (gestures to point to himself) money!". 
Ok! I kept my head down following that but following difficult encounters with said person later on made it not worth it to continue working here. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The other schedulers were really nice. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Manager quit my second week and then they called each administrative support person into the boardroom to grill them about the old manager.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment wasn't great.

Good company to work for as there is always work to be done. You are never short on work.
But unfortunately they need new Management.  Or they need to focus on training their managers and teach them how to be respectful towards their employees. Some Managers are toxic, they belittle their employees, talk poorly about employees, and have a disrespectful attitude. No sense of enjoyment to come into work everyday.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It hard to say could it be the increase cost in “benefits”, the changing of upper management to management with no experience in the industry. It’s really hard to say. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The constant asking for more. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Do as management says even if they are wrong and you should be ok.
