Working at Georgian Bay General Hospital in the laboratory as an MLT is great. The staff are friendly and welcoming and management is amazing and considerate. I recently started here in July of 2022 and so far it’s been great. Management was accommodating for letting me have the time off I needed for my sister’s wedding that happened in October of 2022.

The workload is higher than the laboratory I had originally worked at up North, but as a team it is definitely manageable. If you’re busy in blood bank, your colleagues will be team players and will manage the rest of the lab while you concentrate on important blood banking.

Also, the technology we have is great. Currently we use the Sysmex for Hematology, the Stago for Coagulation, Vitros for Chemistry, the BD Max for PCR, the GEM5000 for blood gases, and a mix of Gel cards/tube methods for Transfusion Medicine. We don’t have a Microbiology or Histopathology department, so the focus is on core lab.

GBGH is a great hospital to start out at - small town hospital feel. Unfortunately there are a lot of internal issues that prevent GBGH from being an excellent employer. GBGH is a good stepping stone to other opportunities or better opportunities within the organization. There have been a lot of hard working and knowledgeable staff who have left the organization.

•RPN’s have very little opportunity for advancement, RN’s have lots of opportunities 
• Management bulling/mistreatment of staff
• Scheduling is a major issue - management is aware this is an issue, refuses to resolve.  Very disorganized and no communication. RPN’s work 3 weekends every month,  Negatively impacts work/life balance. Lots of 8 hour shifts, needs to be overhauled and switched to all 12HR shifts, for better staff coverage and budget handling. Part time schedules never seem to make sense.
• Nurse/patient ratio is high
• Nurse burn out and turn over


Initially this was a great and enjoyable place to work - fast paced and busy for a small town hospital.  What unfortunately surfaced was the cliques of nurses within the various departments which are blatantly tolerated by managers.  Team Leaders who are supposed to be supportive towards their ‘teams’ were far from that.  New graduate nurses are given no guidance and apprehensive to even approach said nurse.  New experienced nurses are also treated with disdain and pettiness.  Erratic assignments that are non consistent nor continuous of proper patient care.  
With the huge nursing job vacancy rate and revolving door of staff, in consideration of the department management - this clearly speaks for itself.

Working as a student nurse at Georgian Bay General was a fun and sometimes hectic experience. The mornings were always the busiest time of the day, and then things began to slow down as the day went on. I learned a lot during my time there and got the opportunity to practice various nursing and communication skills. An actual nurse was always around somewhere if I needed help with something and they were always kind and informative. Since this was a student placement for school I had to rate the salary/benefits as a one star because I wasn't paid anything.

This is a good place to work, people are awsoume,nuses doc and overall staff, however there are only so many postions they can fill and only so many part time opening so if you are looking for job security it wont be there, sadly many place can not offer security to there workers any more times are changeing the demand for workers are different and many places want to pay a low wage and over load there employees.
Georgian Bay General is filled with dedicated people who work hard and do there best every day, I am honered to work along side them.

This was a good place to start because it’s a small hospital but there was a lot of cliques which could make it difficult for your her nurses to feel comfortable approaching nurses for help. 
The management did not care about any of the concerns I had as a new nurse, turn around has been unreal so much so that 95% of new grad nurses hired after me are no longer there and I’ve only be there about two years. 
The ward clerks are absolutely amazing so helpful and genuinely concerned and want to answer your questions (more than management).
It’s a good stepping stone but not somewhere to stay forever.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Managers  are mostly power abusers, bullies and seem to work " above the law", so to speak

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Pressured and unempathetic.
Swim against current or drown. Ceaseless stress

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful. Ling. Exhausting. Robotic in sense no time for the human side of nursing.

Starts out okay.. than you start to see just how little G4S cares vfor their employees. uniforms are never "in stock" becasue they want to keep the 45 pairs of the size of pants you want in stock for people closer in case of emergency... when you have a question they never respond to you.. 

if management cared about there employees.. this would be a great place to work. i was lucky and had an awesome supervisor at my site, but her boss and the boss representing g4s were not a employee first management person

Georgian Bay General Hospital is a terrible hospital to work at. The staff try their best to work with what they are given. However, management is not supported and can not be trusted. I would not recommend working here to anyone. There are plenty of other opportunities. Steer clear of this place. Don't let the shiny veneer fool you. The only positive was my colleagues. Work here at your own risk. Management right up to leadership is not to be trusted!

Would never recommend this establishment for anyone to work. Staff come and go thru the revolving door and many think they have the power but truly don't. Many are rude...Not to mention a few Dr.'s are rude and need to improve on their people skills. so many unhappy people, why would you want to continue working here...I don't recommend working here it will destroy you, the negative vibe people that is.
