Girl Guides

I’m volunteer girl guides I volunteer once a month on Wednesday   Unit Leaders/Unit Guiders deliver programming directly to our girls on a weekly basis. Our Unit Guiders (leaders) are the backbone of our organization – providing guidance, fun and friendship while delivering a dynamic program to girls from 5 to 17+. Unit Guiders are women over 18 years of age. The Unit Guider has the responsibility for the leadership and management of the unit and is supported by and accountable to the Administrative Community Leader (ACL) for her personal performance and for meeting the requirements of her appointment. She is supported by both the ACL and her Community Guider. The Unit Guider works with the other Guiders in the unit. Guiders form a leadership team where skills are utilized and no one person carries the full workload. A fair distribution of the work ensures everyone has time to work and play. Working within the leadership team structure allows Guiders to showcase the positive aspects of sharing, goal achievement, cooperation, and goodwill. Unit Guiders work together and with the girls to plan activities and deliver programming to the unit. Ontario Council provides support to Unit Guiders by paying their national registration fee and the fee for Police Records Checks (PRC). Each Unit Guider is supported by a volunteer Administrative Community Leader (ACL) and a staff Unit Administrator (UA). There are trainings to provide information and skills necessary to deliver the girl program. In Ontario there are “communities of Guiding” and your community number is based on where you reside

Sedentary role with lots of communication via email to staff team and volunteers about processes and instruction on girl program curriculum. Collaboration with other departments to make processes more efficient and also with volunteer to work on project logistics. 
Great variety in role; from developing marketing materials for summer camp to determining budgets for projects.  Department was responsible for all facets of events; risk management paperwork, registration and payment, logistics including transportation, venue contract negotiation, RFPs for presenters, communication plan, etc.
Also oversaw website, electronic mass messaging plan and worked with printers to produce direct mail pieces.  Lots of interaction with senior volunteers to help problem solve and deal with conflict between adult members.

Working with Girl Guides of Canada continues to help me increase my leadership and creative ingenuity by working with young girls and providing them an empowering, safe,fun , interactive cooperative atmosphere where girls can learn to care for others, while helping to increase their own personal self-esteem and creating long lasting healthy relationships with peers.  The most enjoyable part of this job is meeting new girls/woman and being a part of the "sisterhood" in guiding. The hardest part is sometimes learning the diversity of the leader-roles and learning effective communicative strategies along with other leaders to ensure a well balanced and fair role within a unit.

I have found that as the years progress Girl Guides of Canada only continues to gain more and more conflict and drama from corporate. It's ridiculous. I don't see how the head(s) of Girl Guides of Canada can allow for a great, simple organization to turn into so much drama and backlash. If you really want to make a great program for girl and young ladies to grow up with, maybe a little less politics and a little more focus on the girls that are CHOOSING to spend their time and energy with this organization and not starting on of their own. Overall, it's a great program and I owe a lot of the person that I became to it, but it's not the same anymore.

Girl Guides of Canada has been apart of my life for over 10 years. I am a volunteer and apart of the program as a Ranger.  Typical day during volunteering at a Girl Guide camp entails, station running, interaction with younger girls teaching them new skills through the crafts or events they take place in. The Management/Camp leaders are helpful, trust worthy, and caring individuals. Being apart of this organization has allowed me to establish new life skills and overall have incredible work environment.

Girl Guides of Canada is a volunteer organization that has partners all over the world! With it I have gone to Mexico, and another group in my district is planning a trip to London and Paris. Even more importantly, this organization helped me to build confidence as a young girl and to learn things like knots or how to light a fire without matches or paper. So I would highly recommend becoming a leader or sending your daughters because without Girl Guides I would not be who I am today.

I loved working for the girl guides, schedule was open , went into a natural  flow for working in all areas  , never had a problem with staff  or  kids staying at the camp. Was a little out of the way but with a more economical vehicle , that would have been not as taxing as it was. Another thing is the supplies and tools needed were always up to date. Yes I would work there again if needed.

Working in the accounting department for a special summer program, I was very glad to have the opportunity to utilize my skills and training in accounting.  The manager was one of a kind happy camper and I was very happy about her.

My experience working at Girl Guides of Canada (GGC) is positive. I've learned many new skills and enjoyed being part of a great team of ladies.

When I started working at GGC, I became a volunteer leader which I found very rewarding as I got to work with the girl members directly which was a tremendous amount of fun.

Teaching girls of all ages new & exciting projects, life skills such as being curious about learning about things like bugs & animals, the differences between them, their habitats, what they eat, etc.Went indoors camping with the girls in churches & girl guide head quarters. We sold cookies 2 times per year and raised money for camps, etc. We held pot luck dinners, taught and participated in arts, crafts & games.
