Management expects the world of you and writes you up for every little thing you do wrong (or they do wrong but blame you), yet you can work here for twenty years and half the positions won't make more than minimum wage. More than half the staff is completely  incompetent and impossible to communicate with as they are not fluent in english and management does not care. Anyone that's been here a long time is only here because they don't KNOW they could make more money and have real benefits LITERALLY anywhere else, or because they are too incompetent to work anywhere else. 

Don't even try taking a sick day. You will be chastised, berated and made to feel like the worst person ever because you didn't want to come in SICK to a RETIREMENT home. Likely they have treated staff this miserably for so long because the majority of their workers don't even understand what's being said to them to start with.

Management is also so cheap that they have the residents pay out your 'Christmas bonus', which is rarely more than 300$, even if you're full time. Don't ever expect them to pay you what you're worth.

You likely won't get full time as they'd rather hire several part time workers than a few full time workers... you know, they may have to pay benefits if they did that. 

They are going to be understaffed, and you are going to do the work of three for minimum wage, and YOU will be in trouble if you can't do it. Not management for not hiring anyone, YOU will be responsible for doing the work of 3 or facing consequences.

HIGH stress and constant complaints from management. They do not even pretend to try and appreciate you.

The only good thing about working here is some of the residents are sweet and sometimes management even cares if a resident is harassing you. Sometimes.

A typical day at work is dynamic and engaging, with opportunities to learn and grow. I believe I've learned the importance of adaptability, effective communication, and teamwork. Management is supportive and encourages open dialogue, fostering a collaborative environment. Workplace culture is positive, with a focus on innovation and mutual respect.

The hardest part of the job is managing competing priorities and tight deadlines, which can be challenging but also drives growth. The most enjoyable part is solving complex problems and seeing the impact of my work on the team and organization. It's fulfilling to contribute to meaningful outcomes and build strong relationships with colleagues.

Very supportive staff and excellent training opportunities 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
At the time, it was possible exposure to COVID.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Relaxed, excellent support from staff and management 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Checking in, getting tested for COVID before starting work, being on the lookout for visitors coming into building, asking COVID related questions

I would spend my volunteer time taking residents out for walks, listening to music with them, and played piano as well.  I also would sit and talk with them and just listen and be there for them.

Loved my co-workers. Management did not support staff, Had to cover multiple units rather than management calling in staff. Made shift stressful as well as dangerous for the residents.

Units left without a nurse, only PSW's on an occurring  basis. other nurses would come for med pass or emergencies only as they had their own large unit to tend to.

The pay is low for long-term care. They have no parking to supply for evenings. Parking on the street is tricky. Management is overly controlling and never happy. Always nitpicking. They want perfection! Very toxic work environment! high stress which seems to overflow into your personal life. I would not recommend employment here! Do yourself a favor and keep looking!

The most enjoyable part of my job is too see the smiles on the seniors faces. The hardest part of the job is when they are physical or emotional. My typical day at work is to make the seniors look beautiful; I wash their hair, put in rollers/take them out, and bring back up to their bedrooms. What I learn at work is all different personality's and cultures.

NOTHING AT ALL. Everything is chaotic and disorganized.

The inconsistencies and disorganization of management.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very toxic and yearly training is rare.

work from 0700 to 1500; give medicines to 32 residents; many documents to do, MDS, care plan; contact with doctor, family and other staff; manage 4 PSWs; good relationship with staff;very busy work environment; company culture is very good.

I volunteered regularly at the Glebe Centre in high school and had an extremely positive experience there. While working with residents with dementia and other age-related conditions can be tiring, we were extremely well trained and managed and I found the experience really rewarding.
