I have worked at Good Dog for 3+ years and have never loved a job as much as this one! The owners are extremely dedicated and smart women who have created a booming and successful dog care business from the ground up! 

They are extremely knowledgeable about how to ensure Good Dog is going to be a home away from home for all pups that come stay with us. Dog safety and happiness is the number one priority and you will get on the job dog safety and behavioural training at hire and consistently throughout your employment.

The diligence in care is something I have never experienced and it makes me feel amazing that I can come to work and know that we are making a difference for so many dogs. Whether it is fear-free grooming or positive reinforcement training for all dogs (even ones struggling with aggression/reactivity/anxiety). The option for your dog to be in a social pack or custom care daycare and boarding program is so special, as it gives Good Dog the ability to accommodate nearly all dogs that come through our doors.

The owners and management were so welcoming and understanding, and although my dog experience was minimal at the time of hire, my work history and leadership experience was taken into consideration and I was given plenty of room for opportunity and growth. 

The company culture is fantastic and I have met life-long friends since working here. Staff and management as so supportive and understanding of each other and always use any opportunity to teach and help you learn. You never have to be afraid to ask questions as there is always somebody willing to answer. I feel appreciated at work and if you speak up with ideas, they will be heard. Staff, management and the owners often bring in treats, home-baked goods, and we have even had little pizza parties at work.

 The amount of knowledge I have gained about dogs, customer service, business, communication skills, managing a team and so so much more has added so much value to both my professional and personal life. 

I have been a university student since starting this job and have never had a problem with my changing availabilities throughout my different semesters. The owners and management even would ask me how school was going and would check in to make sure I was having a work-school-life balance.

Some of these other reviews are quite surprising to me as I have never heard these opinions from any of the staff that I work with on the daily and I know every employee at both locations! 

The only “downside” I can see is that this is not just a job where you can cuddle dogs. Dog care is hard work and you have to be willing to break a little sweat! I love that side of this job and consistently meet my daily step goals at work lol!

Management doesn't care how you're feeling at any point, just if the work is getting done and they're making as much money as possible. They accept far too many dogs per day, overwhelming the staff, and don't pay the staff nearly enough to deal with it. The owners will come around every so often and seem to have no idea what is going on operationally, and just flaunt their newly styled expensive hair and tell us about the dates they'll be "unavailable" for the next vacation they're going on.

They will make you come in to work if you were at the hospital the previous night. They will make you come in to work if you're sick (had terrible outbreaks of Covid due to this early on in the pandemic)- if you can't come to work for any reason, they will guilt you into coming.

During the summer, there is no AC in the dog rooms and it is physically hard to breathe. So many bodies + outside heat + extreme humidity due to the dogs being wet to cool them off. Lots of concern over the dogs staying cool, but not the staff. If you aren't inside, you're outside in the harsh sun and will be scolded for just staying in the shade as you aren't "doing your job".

During the winter, still working outside in the frigid cold, probably also soaked by rain or snow. The ground gets slippery, dog feces gets frozen into the ground and makes it extra slippery. Lots of injuries happen during this time.

I started to hate dogs after working here. I used to love dogs. It took about a year of working with dogs in a POSITIVE environment for me to actually like them again.

They stick way too many dogs in way too few enclosures, and expect you to deal with it while being paid minimum wage. Dog fights are incredibly common due to the high numbers causing a high-stress environment for some of the dogs, and you are expected to constantly break up these fights. You will be constantly yelling, grabbing and pulling dogs away, and risking yourself getting injured repeatedly. It is not fun.

After a year of working here I can confidently say, they do not want the best for you. 
The management is cliquey, passive aggressive and will constantly make you do all the tiring tasks so they don’t have to while making remarks that you’re not doing it how they want it. 

Your hours will be cut and shifts can be taken away with/without notice or any explanation. If you want to book days off you better do it a year ahead, since it took months for mine to get approved with half a years notice. 

Where higher ups will talk bad about you to the groomers and if you work in pack you’ll be called unreliable and other mean words indeed won’t let me say. Despite it being a very stressful environment for 8 hours. Overall it felt like a cold place full of mean people who smile a lot. One day the boss just decided to stop doing overnights, giving two week notice. Then next day removing the shifts off our schedule. While a lot of workers had trouble voicing their opinions, a lot of girls came to me stressed since they don’t feel heard out, or have to report something they don’t feel comfortable reporting to management.

Make your managers more friendly. Where they don’t write awful notes how workers are annoying  and useless in their logs.  Awful awful awful. In the end of 2022 my life turned upside down and I ended up quitting to pursue grooming, not a single goodbye from anyone. Such a cold place. 

While working here, I experienced an unhealthy work environment that involved favouritism by managers and the owners. There was a lack of support, professionalism, and inconsistent training. Some of my coworkers were often denied unpaid time off for appointments or important reasons with ample notice. Our schedule was usually released late, a day or two before shifts and shifts were frequently cut last minute which led to having an inconsistent work schedule. While working here the morale and environment often felt negative and cliquey. 

A regular workday involved us practicing unsafe cleaning, we were taught to clean without gloves and no protection. When reading the bottle and investigating further, we were diluting improperly and this heavy-duty cleaner required Personal safety gear such as Respirators, gloves and goggles to handle the chemical. We were also taught to dispose of dirty mop buckets which contained that chemical combined with dog accidents outside the facility in bushes, I cannot fathom the impact this had on the dogs playing there, the environment and us who were handling this heavy-duty cleaner every day improperly. We used this cleaner all over the facility, around dogs, multiple times a day and dumped it in sinks and bushes outside repetitively.

I loved working with dogs but I was uncomfortable with the management and unsafe practices.



Working at Good Dog has amazing benefits, which are working with the owners who are all Dog Trainers who are always looking to make their business that much better, and of course, working almost all day with the dogs! The only downside to the job is the outdoor environment, so if you are not an outdoors person, then this isn't the job for you. The pay also isn't that great, but if you do this for enjoyment or as a second job for pleasure, it is a great learning experience and a great atmosphere. You also have the opportunity of learning about training and other fun canine games!

This job is not just cuddles and play time with dogs. You have to clean sleeping quarters, rooms, poo scoop every 15 mins, refresh waters every 15 mins, etc. You have to make sure dogs are playing appropriately as well as getting content of dogs to post on the instagram page. If you have questions then you need to ask, because there isn’t too much handholding once your training is complete. It’s a very fast paced job and you need to be prepared to learn anything and everything there is on dog body language, dogs names in your pack, and how to properly clean.

Grooming with Good Dog is fast paced, but working as part of a team makes it a lot more fun! Rather than having each Groomer do 5-8 dogs themselves per day a number of dogs are booked for the whole team and everyone does what's needed to get all the dogs done by the end of the day. This means no spending 3 hours of back breaking work on a Giant Breed by yourself! 

The company is very opening to tweaking and changing processes to see if something else will work better, and the brand new building is *gorgeous* to work in! 

I had a great time working with Good Dog, i love dogs & working in a busy environment so i found it very rewarding. The staff are very kind & everyone wants the best for the dogs! I have worked at daycares before & good dog is a very professional & knowledgeable place to work. I wish i could have continued to work there but had to go back to school. 

Managers are 18-25 years old with no experience; so the workplace is mismanaged. They always cut hours (without permission) and never give you enough. Toxic workplace and new employees are ignored by staff and hardly trained. Overall just a cliquey place, would avoid. 

While sometimes physically and emotionally demanding, this job is rewarding. Being in the company of so many loving creatures is a fresh change of pace. In addition, you get to work with other dog-lovers and managers/trainers who have yours AND the dogs best interests at heart. Great company and great owners.
