I was a bit hesitant to start working at Goodfood due to the location  - I live downtown and it seemed like it was going to be a real trek (especially given that I take public transportation), however the office is located right next to 2 buses that depart pretty regularly and are convenient for where I am located. 

In my position (and most positions really), I get to interact with the CEO, COO, CFO and VP of Procurement on a daily basis - and all of these interactions have been nothing but pleasant. 

I find that they really do care about their employees and that they are constantly striving for improvement in every sense. Upper management allows for a lot of room to plan and execute numerous company events (we have 5 à 7's ever 2 weeks, usually themed with food and drinks and music) and there are more and more employees getting involved which is great for morale. The fridge is always stocked with drinks, beer and wine and there are weekly fruits and snacks. There's also often food from the test kitchen to try which is super cool. We also have weekly chair massages (we have a masseuse come into the office each Thursday and we all can sign up for massages) and the best thing is probably the grocery give away on Fridays! Oh and beer. Beer on Friday! 

The office is also an open space concept, so you get to see and interact with almost every department, which is super great and the decor is almost completed which makes it more pleasant to spend your day here. 

Salary is competitive (compared to my previous jobs) and there's so much room for growth as the company is expanding so rapidly. They really pay attention and reward employees who work hard, are brand ambassadors and will make a point to help you grow within your role, and the company and the quarterly bonus is really cool advantage. 

The recruiting process was pretty much flawless in my case. I actually did not apply directly to Goodfood, they reached out to me. The recruiter who contacted me was super nice and flexible (they even interviewed me outside of my work schedule so I didn't have to miss any work hours). I did a total of 3 interviews. The first was a phone interview. This was followed by an in person interview at Goodfood and then a final interview with the CEO. The whole process was quick, efficient and a really pleasant experience. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse, so here I am now. 

The only thing that I would say needs improvement is the overlap of departments (specifically our Customer Service team). We don't get to hang out with them a lot, so if you're applying for a Member Happiness position, please come hang with us when you start! We'd love to have you :)

In my time at Goodfood, I watched the company go from a hardworking startup to a workplace that valued 'culture' over actual, concrete advances in hiring, technology, and systems. 'Team work makes the dream work' turned into a sick mantra in which the Member Happiness team (customer service) would work insane hours (overtime topping 8+ hours a day for some agents, who would work to 'bank' the time for eventual days off) dealing with volumes of communications due to a host of issues, from delivery problems stemming from their very production facility, to marketing initiatives that toed the line of breaking anti-spam legislation, to having to manually suspend/cancel hundreds of accounts on a daily basis.  The intense lack of support from upper management resulted in thinly veiled threats to not allow tickets to backlog ever again, and also contributed to my decision to leave the company.

Alongside this, there is a constant 'always on' mentality that is unspoken, but is a clear tenant of who is 'working hard'. The company utilizes Slack (a messaging app) and it was an unspoken rule, even from the very early days, that this was to be installed on your phone, and you should be always up to date as to the goings on in not only your department, but others as well. It became a compulsion: if I wasn't working, I would check Slack at least once an hour in the evening, and when I woke up in the morning it would be the very first thing I looked at on my phone. It allows the lines between home and work to blur significantly, despite the company insisting that they value work-life balance.

Promotions are virtually non-existant, and pay scale is not compliant with industry standards (specific for customer service); the MH positions are so much more than just customer service, and should be paid accordingly. The position is also mostly thankless; in almost 3 years, I can point out a handful of occasions where I was told I was doing a good job, or thanked for my extra efforts.

My decision to leave was difficult, because of the 'culture' the company creates; you are so ingrained with the expectations that anything else seems foreign. The company I fell in love with, and devoted my loyalty to, no longer existed at my departure; growth in a company is important, but not when you begin to sacrifice your core values. I cannot strongly recommend enough to avoid Goodfood; your overall well being is not worth the strain.

I joined this company with the impression that they were committed to improving food safety processes, sustainability in packaging, and overall operational efficiency. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The role I was hired for ended up being very different from what was described, and there was little to no training or onboarding provided.

When I assessed the facility, I found there were no real systems in place for food safety tracking, product recalls, or packaging efficiency. I worked to create solutions, including implementing a barcode program to properly store and track products and researching sustainable packaging options. Despite my efforts, these projects were not supported or adopted, and the company prioritized rebranding and packaging colors over food safety or reducing waste.

Later, during a restructuring, many leaders were let go, leaving employees without clear direction or support. Communication from upper management was limited, and projects were often cancelled without explanation. Ultimately, I was let go shortly after the restructuring, with very little transparency around the decision.

Overall, I found the company to lack clear processes, training, and long-term vision. While it may be a fit for some, I would not recommend it to those looking for a structured environment, opportunities for innovation, or a company genuinely focused on food safety and sustainability.

I worked for Goodfood for nearly 2 years, and really enjoyed my time for the first year or so. In the beginning, it was a small company that cared about its employees from the top down, and encouraged growth. As time went on and the company grew, the values that once were so important did not evolve accordingly, but were still promoted as being the same. This quickly created an environment of distrust and lack of empathy amongst the management team, which obviously trickled down to the team.

The abuse of the Slack messaging app is also a huge problem at Goodfood. The Customer Service centre is open 16h a day, 7 days a week, and there was an unspoken rule that you needed to be up to date on everything going on as a member of the management team. This meant having it on your phone and being on it outside of work hours.

It's in the nature of startups to grow fast and hard, but the message from the CEO was always clear - adapt or die. There was a fixation on "culture fit", which essentially boiled down to finding people who would fall in line and be another cog in the machine. We were encouraged to share concerns, but they were never escalated or validated. This applied even to the HR team, who would often react to complaints against coworkers or managers with, "you should talk to them about this". It did not make its staff feel heard or protected.

Expectations for the customer service agents became increasingly unrealistic, based on the growth of the company, the hiring rate and the tools provided. This of course made team members fear for their jobs, and put additional stress on the managers, who were forced to dismiss agents who frankly, in many cases, did not deserve it.

The once homey environment that made me feel valued, respected and allowed for a lot of professional growth has long been gone from this place. It's the sad reality of Goodfood, and for these reasons, and countless others, I cannot recommend enough that people steer clear of them.

Everything that made this a great place to work disinterested within the last year I worked there. The work used to be engaging, and you genuinely felt like upper management had your best interest at heart, but at this point the company is on the verge of bankruptcy due to poor decisions and you definitely feel that blowback when you work there now.

Your direct managers and fellow staff remain helpful and courteous as ever, however the people directly above them show endless incompetence, and actively try and make your job worse in the name of attempted profitability for the company.

Countless policies are put in place to nickel and dime members to attempt to minimize their concerns, which provides an awful experience for both them and you as you try and weather the storm of their blowback. You actively have to defend company policies that change on upper management's whim, sometimes giving members entirely different information depending on what time of day they've contacted.

It's remote, but you won't ever get a weekday only shift unless you're willing to work evenings. Group firings take place every 3-4 months, so there's never any job security. Raises are scheduled, however the metrics they use will change every few months so that you're always just out of range of a raise. Upward mobility used to be possible, however they've thinned the team so much that unless your team leader is fired, there won't ever be the chance for you to be moved up.

I used to be very high on this workplace, but unless you're fine being treated awfully by members while defending policies that are changed weekly, having upper management who actively don't understand the job, and never getting a raise or better hours, then I would avoid this workplace all together.

Please and I repeat Please DO NOT WORK FOR THEM.
Sure the pay is above minimum so at first it feels like it is worth it. But it is not. Every person  I know who worked there has already quit  including myself.  The management is so poor. The big bosses are always changing everything. They do not care about you they pretend they do but they dont. They want you To work faster and faster. They make up new lay out All the time and they never make sense. Employees dont even have enough time To get used To the new lay outs. 
30 % of people that work there are lazy,  the other 40% are immigrants that cannot find another job ( most of them do not speak french). And the remaining 30% somehow ended up at the wrong place but I insure you they do not stay. 
The cafeteria sucks To put it short
It is very cold in the warehouse.
The safety is minimum you have To watch every Step you take.
The only really good thing about this job is that you could share stories at supper time with your family and your friends  of the crazy Things that happened To you or that you saw at goodfood

Even the chef Leads hate their job. AND EVERYONE laughs at the bosses behind their back.

So to sum up:

Work temperature : sucks 
People you work with : 50/50  if youre Lucky youll work with hardworking people if no youll work twice as hard 
Bonus :sucks .. Btw most people dont know this but they are planning  on changing their bonus system that would be based on performance .. so if someone works slower than you then you would be penalised.
Pay: sucks considering that min wage increased 
Most people do not Last more than 2months there

Goodfood is currently trying to overcome the continued decline of its overall performance, just like other business industries, after the global business landscape has changed, resulting from the U.S.-China conflicts and pandemic impacts.

Of course, these impacts will create a chain reaction in business operations, testing management competence if they would react or proactively respond to a change. Few people would often see this part because of its workplace culture. If you belong to a particular culture, whether you naturally act or replicate the way they lead, hoping to be acknowledged. This kind of practice in the organization will hurt business operations in the long run and won’t be helping at all to overcome the change in the global business landscape. This workplace culture impedes the organization from making another leap to becoming even more successful in this new business landscape. 

Goodfood Market should start asking why giant and successful companies worldwide are still thriving despite the economic downturn. That is because they know well how to unleash their employees' potential and foster work-life balance by utilizing organizational behavior knowledge, which eventually sparks product and service innovation.

I used to be a manager at Good Food and it's the worst experience I've ever had. To be honest the manager position at Good Food is no more than a Team Leader position in every other company. If the ideas aren't coming from the higher management, they are not good enough. You might try to implement something, then, get back after a day of work and it's completely changed. They want the management team to be almost every minute on the field which makes it impossible to work on improving the process ( which is really bad ). The training is a joke. One supervisor would train as much as 30 associates within half a day of work. The schedule you will have as a manager is 7 days a week 24 hours a day. They use the app Slack on which I would receive messages and have to answer every nights ( 2am , 3am , etc). You will probably end up having no weekends even if you were told you would work from Monday to Friday. I'm not talking about quick phone calls to fix problems but literally to go on-site and work on the field for an 8 hours shift and more. If you have a family or want one , avoid Good Food. On the other hand I learnt a lot on how not to do things and treat people.  For all the work , the salary is also on the low end. Don't get fool by the title , I have a high management position right now and I can tell you that a manager position at Good Food is not a real management position anywhere else. All you get is a misleading title and a 24/7 job.

PROS
- Employees are a pleasure to work with

CONS
- No work/life balance - They will pile on a bunch of work at you until you're at a point of burnout and expect you to work after hours for barely living wage

- Toxic culture—Senior management is toxic and has a tendency to micromanage. They don't trust their employees, value their opinions, and pay employees enough yet expect the world from them. 

No salary increases—There is no formal process for salary increases, and I've met people with 4+ years who haven't had a penny's worth of salary increase despite getting two promotions. The management is super cheap when giving employees a salary increase but will give themselves 100% increases year over year (their salaries are public). 

Constant Layoffs—The company conducts a round of layoffs every quarter, and the remaining employees are expected to pick up the workload of the people they let go. This comes at no bonus or salary to the employees left there, leading to everyone being virtually burnt out. 

Given that the salary is significantly below the market average, I had to regress because more junior roles outside Goodfood had better compensation. This has led to me setting back my career by 3-4 years to afford to pay off my mortgage.

SUMMARY
Don't bother working at this place. They will not change and will hurt your career a lot in the long run. Working at Goodfood was my biggest career mistake, and I'll always live with this regret. 

Often used general language to ignore their own metrics, and were unwilling to explain anything more than a high school understanding of what a KPI is and that they need it. Experienced service agents will recognize empty or ambiguous language is used often. Were unwilling to elaborate on issues in their procedures, and team members were punished/discouraged from reporting pertinent issues customers faced. Rely on skilled service workers to lie about the root cause of the issue when customers are unsatisfied. Issues the company were unwilling to fix are often translated into hits against your KPI. Perks and benefits were made unavailable to certain staff shifts. You are not guaranteed to receive permission to utilize the perks. Did not adhere to their own promote from within culture, and frequently hired outside for nearly all key positions. Repeatedly promised and announced changes/updates/developments in policy/features/workplace that were often never spoken about again
