Pay is good, benefits are fantastic. I would love the stay with the company but management is just a horrible mess. 

The manager (and most higher-ups in the company) are incredibly cold and do not care at all about staff. Losing people's doctors notes over and over, refusing to accommodate staff with sick/injured/dying family, straight up being rude and yelling at people. Things also just don't get done, or it takes weeks due to management forgetting to ask the higher-ups. When reviews don't get done and raises are based on those, it tends to make people pretty upset. 

People are constantly hired for daytime weekday positions with the assumption that they can be pressured into evenings and weekends. Employees will be told they'll get certain positions, even sign the paperwork, and then not get it even though it remains unfilled. Management loves to power trip. Turnover is very high due to this and due to the fact that most of the new hires have no work ethic and/or aren't trained properly. Even if people are abusing other staff, they still don't get fired. 

The workplace is also incredibly chaotic, with things changing back and forth every day, and routines being done completely differently depending on which manager/asm/supervisor is there that day. The standards set by the company are only followed when anyone important comes in, and are immediately dropped again afterwards.

I won't even start on how much they exploit the disabled workers or on all the things I could report to employment standards.

Overall, the company seems to care about the workers as the benefits and pay are great for retail and they have the means in place to give proper accommodations to people who need it, but is horrible on a store-by-store basis. Not sure about the other stores, as I've only worked at the one (but heard a lot of similar things about the others), but the great benefits does not make up for the chaos and abuse that staff go through. If there was completely different management, the store would be a much better place.

For a very first job went from good to I'd even say great. In the begining I may or may not have been payed fairly but by the end of my time at goodwill I was paid 16 an hour, plus from the begining overtime for any shifts I stayed late at, and I received two seperate gift cards for superstore worth 200$ in total. I had a lot of different jobs to do but got used to all of them, got cash training, learned about customer service through my co-workers and experience, had busy days I handeled well with the help of my team. In general the good customers, the staff and management where the best part of the job... and the staff potlucks. I'm not sure how it compares to other oppurutnities but I would definietley reccomend it as an entry level retail job and there's room for growth within the company as evidnced by two of my management getting interanlly promoted while I worked there.

Stock rotation, display duties and dressing room maintenance duties.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The Retail team member primarily works in the retail area of the store processing sales transactions,
restocking merchandise, maintaining site cleanliness, merchandising, rotating stock and providing
exceptional customer service. Retail team members are expected to interact in a friendly and helpful manner
with customers on the retail floor. They must be well-versed in Goodwill’s mission and able to clearly
communicate the value of the purchase to Goodwill’s overall purpose. They must be familiar with the retail
floor layout to respond to customer inquiries effectively.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Provides access to locked dressing rooms and monitors that only 6 items at a time are taken in the rooms.

company culture was really good before, and you can tell that anyone working there loves to be there; Hybrid work, very flexible hours, no work pressure from the higher ups, and all those good things. Unfortunately, after a change in management, culture became toxic. Management always says to take care of your mental health, during meetings and in front of large groups. But in reality, they don't. They will force you to give up working remotely, and will prohibit you from taking a leave on certain days of the month. They overload you with work and have unrealistic expectations. Work is horrible for such a small team. Working early and late will NEVER be appreciated, as it became an expectation already when the company is busy.

Unfortunately, my experience working here was very disappointing. The management consistently showed a lack of respect and appreciation for staff. Employees were often overworked and undervalued, with little to no recognition for their efforts. Communication was poor, and decisions were made without consulting or informing the team. Concerns brought up by staff were usually ignored or dismissed. There was a clear atmosphere of favoritism and inconsistency in how rules were applied. Overall, the work environment felt toxic and demoralizing. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a healthy or supportive workplace.

Great fellow staff members (not including management.) Some great customers.

Management expects you to know everything, and to mind read as well.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very diverse culture, which is great. Work environment is usually very tidy and free from hazards.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very stressful as management doesn't help deal with customer concerns, if anything they escalate the problem.

Right from the start I know I was going to love the job, the work environment created by the Grande Prairie management made it so welcoming and friendly. They care about their workers and they care about the jobs they do for the community and the good they bring every day. It was fast paced and not easy work but it was rewarding to see the people that needed the products we were wheeling to the sales floor. It was a awesome job and the Grand Prairie team will forever be my family. Miss them all every day. 

Goodwill is a very good company to work for. Management is easy going and laid back as long as the work gets done, which is very fair. Fantastic starter job for kids in high school as it's easy to catch on and work your way up in the company, which could lead to a great career opportunity down the road. If you show up to work every day, put in an honest effort, and work hard, you will benefit.  The only downsides are that hours can be inconsistent (evening shift one day, morning shift the next day) and that wages are low. Overall, I was very satisfied with my time at Goodwill. 

I am pretty happy with my job at Goodwill. Each month gets better and better as my location changes things. We are given ample opportunities to grow within the store. Encouraged to learn more then our current area. I currently know almost everything in our back processing area. Our supervisor is great.  Our manager is also great. I don't have any complaints about working here....well that are worth reviewing on. Any problems we have our supervisor and manager strove to work with us and create a solution.

I was lucky to rise through the ranks a bit but quickly met a ceiling. Unless someone above you quits or is fired there is no room to reach supervisor level, and manager level is basically unachievable in the warehouse. Held back raises for at least 3yrs, even though the work increased after the initial lockdown in 2020. It's great of you just want a comfy job, repeating the same tasks over and over and working the same hours. It's stable, that's about all.
