Gore Meadows Community Centre

A typical day at work included myself helping to integrate my participant with an exceptionality into the main stream camp and getting them involved. This included playing various types of activties. The pros of working here is the job is very rewarding and you are able to see change,  progress and the partipicant getting comfortable with you. The hardest part of the job was sometimes the information given about participants are not accurate. An example of this is, participant's parent saying their child is verbal and non-aggressive and turns out to be non-verbal and agressive. The hardest part would be having to work your way around these certain barriers.

- Prepared lesson plans, activities, and games, to teach children basic beginner skills of soccer, basketball, and volleyball
- Answered questions and provided feedback to parents about the progress of their children
- Worked as an excellent team member with co-workers, when brainstorming and creating daily activity plans 
- Coordinated, explained, and demonstrated activities to all age groups at levels they can comprehend  
- Handle situations involving quick thinking and problem solving skills when there was a lack of interest in actives and arguments among the participants

At work I provided as much information about the activities occurring in the facility to the customers and I have a professional manner when answering the phone and when speaking to customers. Had to think on my feet and to be patient with customers.  The management is very supportive and encouraging.  The team I work with is a lot of fun and helpful when I need it.  The hardest part of the job is memorizing all the prices and the most enjoyable part of the job is providing the customer with my very best customer service.

Worked with children and youth in a recreation setting, running sports programs and leadings camps. Everyday was a fun learning new things day. Great cusotmer service experience was gained and hours are flexible in the fall and winter and have the option of full time in the summer. Recent pay increase is reasonable. New mangement shift not feeling it.

I only had a volunteer position but the atmosphere was really inviting and helpful! The staff is super nice and friendly. I would really recommend this even just for experience.

Personally, I enjoyed the experience and would love to do it again, without hesitation. The staff members were great and always had a positive attitude and I loved working with the children.

the only thing about this place is that you have to at least like kids. If you don't like kids you will have a hard time teaching them to read. Pretty easy if you know how to control them and keep the place clean.

Volunteers and Staff work very hard to have a fun and safe environment. The management is also great as they help you with any difficulties. The most enjoyable part of the job is that it's pretty laid back.

Volunteering at gore meadows is pretty cool. Their working environment and their impact on the community is very fascinating and great reasons to try and apply there.

It was a pleasure teaching all the kids at Gore and helping them with English language. Kids were able to learn language simply and I believe this would have helped them so much.
