Many people have been there for decades , and still, yet alot of high seniority people are working production. 
No way to go anywhere in the company unless your lucky enough to not get a 'verbal written warning' (as it effects you taking postings for other jobs at the mill) for something very utterly stupid as in going on your phone at work, yet almost every single person including committee representatives amd lead hands are on thier phone as they work. 
The company will not give raises out even though inflation has gone crazy these past years, many people working here are more miserable everyday you see them and is not fun to work around. You get lucky enough days to work with the nice ones. 
They pay more attention to 'mental health' than our physical health,
 as gorman brothers is one of the most physical lumber mills around. 
Be ready to use your body and have lots of issues. 


Good pay for the Okanagan but that’s not saying much. Benefits are ok. Gormans puts on a great face for the community and WorkSafeBC but it’s all fake. Don’t hurt yourself here or they’ll push you out like a sliver. The work wears your body out and when it breaks they try to make it seem like you couldn’t have done it here and try to push you out the door.  
Harassment and violence is buried by HR to protect the companies interests. The quality of the boards made here has gone right in the toilet due to the fact that the employees aren’t treated with respect and nobody cares about their quality of work.

Management puts a big emphasis on safety and are always trying to find things that could potentially be dangerous.  They value safety over efficiency and have no problem with you taking a couple extra minutes to make sure tasks are done safely. When starting out, the physicality of the job can be quite hard but your body will get used to it. The pay is much higher than other jobs available in town with no previous experience required. The pay is a nice trade off for having to work a 2 week rotation between days and afternoons. Can be hard to move up in the company but with many people retiring every year, there will be room to grow.

The pay is pretty adequate, after 3 months you receive good benefits. The job is tough at first, but you build muscle and know how quickly. Upper Management plays favourites, so unless you are part of the family or a close family friend you are always going to get the short end of the stick. That being said, lower management is great and they will always try to do their best for you. 
With a lot of guys retiring, now is a good time to get into the company, as there will be room for advancement very early on in your career. 

It was a genuine pleasure to work there. Fast-paced production environment, but the commradary among the workers makes the days easier. If you're not scared of a little hard work and have a positive attitude, you'll fit fight in at Gorman Bros. Lumber.

Lazy and discriminatory practices are employed by HR.  Online ads stating open positions are not congruent with apparent demands for potential employees with preferred skill sets, meeting all listed prerequisites for an advertised position is not enough for an interview.  Very unprofessional HR manager who should be replaced.

Despite the job being taxing with constantly rotating day and evening shifts, having the right coworkers definitely improved my experience. They value safety quite highly and try to ensure people are taken care of and accommodated when possible. Overall, a pretty great place to work. If it wasnt for my commute, I would have stayed

Excellent place to work. They pay you above average but expect good work. Great family atmosphere. Very good benefits package with bonuses usually every year. Plenty of room for advancement. Highly recommend working here.

Work only on weekends and turn-arounds.
The equipment was more complex than I was familiar with.
Management was excellent with my learning curve.
All co-workers were great to work with.
There were no hard parts of a day

The effort and discipline required for the job certainly take some time to build up, and time to master (for those that already have a strong work ethic). However, the experience I had was a very positive one.
