Got Junk

A typical day means physically lifting anything and everything from food waste in dumpsters, reno debris, aggregates, freezers, safes and pretty much anything the customer wants gone. In basements/crawlspaces/backyards/garages/shopping malls, anywhere people hide material objects essentially. Extremely physically and mentally exhausting. Management only cares about meeting daily revenue goals as they receive bonuses (meaning they will push you to accept unprofitable jobs to avoid cancellation/meet their goal) Pay is hourly + commission of anywhere from 4-8% to be split 60/40% with your partner for the day depending on productivity. Their pricing system is a complete sham designed to confuse and abuse anyone who has no experience with removal costs (dump rates/weight/time&effort) or anyone not able bodied. Employees lie through their teeth to secure revenue for upper management in hopes of leaving early or making a few extra dollars. Safety equipment required to perform the job is not provided, instead they make you pay for work gloves/respirator and uniforms. Extremely shady business overall, employees are encouraged to take advantage of customers in any way possible (making up reasons for additional charges after the job is completed and adding them to their bill) Only benefits to this job would be the 4 day work week, finding cool stuff on the job/tips from customers and the people you work with. Winter is extremely dangerous and your hours get cut. Spring / summer are the busy times, be prepared to work anywhere from 10-14 hours per shift with 11 hours off in between shifts if your lucky.  Save your body and apply elsewhere, no money is worth your health!

This job is not for the faint of heart. It's physically intensive, long hours, and you never really know what each individual job on your schedule is like until you get on site.

If you're single, have no personal appointments on your workdays, don't mind getting dirty or interacting with people, and have personal initiative and grit; you'll enjoy working here. 

If you expect to have a fixed schedule, an easy day, or have no physical endurance, you will hate this job.

The day would start with a morning  meeting, from there going to the jobs for the day located throughout the Okanagan. I learned how the plan ahead and think outside the box the efficiently finish the day and load the truck effectively to fit the most amount of junk. Management was fantastic and easy to talk to. Workplace culture was relatively good with great people to work with. The hardest part of the job would be some of the jobs you could get, be it clearing out a house or moving a heavy object through a tight space. The best part of the job would be spurts of physical work with breaks between jobs and going through the day with a trusted coworker to work together efficiently.

A typical day at 1-800-GOT-JUNK involves a morning conversation with co-workers before heading out to the trucks. A quick circle check and a call to the client before we head out. The drive is filled with small talk and laughs. At the client house, we are friendly and give the client all the details.Then we get started. There's some heavy lifting involved at GOT-JUNK, but it's nothing we can't handle. Teamwork and communication is essential at GOT-JUNK. It's a busy day, but it's made worthwhile by the other employees.

Never was a real start time or end time. Some days I'd be up at 6 am and done at 10 pm, other days I would start at 1 pm and be done by 2 pm. Hard to have a social life while working a job like that, very little structure. No benefits, did make significant strides in getting raises within the 10 months I was there. Friendly co-workers and managers. Some of the jobs were absolutely disgusting, removing peoples waste from their houses or apartments and cleaning up actual human waste from piles of garbage in some yards. Definitely not sanitary.

Great team dynamic, with wonderful training. Coaching development available and proffesional as well as personal support is always there for you. Fast paced work and dealing with various people each and every day. Always able to develop and learn new ways of sales and how to better develop your goals within the company.

Company was good to work for and in general all the people were nice too. Typical day would be obtaining addresses and going out to them to pick up items.  Loading and unloading the truck.  Driving around all day.

Ultimately, the training is good and the co-workers are alright, but the pressure for selling outweighs the environment. 

I preferred my time as a Help Desk Agent and that was only for 6 months. Then when I was brought back into the call centre, I was not feeling very confident.

This is a labor intensive job that requires much travel time between jobs and coordination with your coworkers to do the job correctly. Work phone is provided with several contacts of management employees that can help with any questions that come up.
