The management at this company is extremely hard to work with. 
The owner and the MANY different managers all work against each other instead of with each other.  They do not communicate with each other or employees effectively.
 Since each manager/owner has their own designated customers, there is always a competition for the trucks and equipment putting unnecessary pressure and stress on the workers to meet everyone's deadlines. This whole system goes against their mission statement core value 'Teamwork'.   The lack of communication,organization, and teamwork causes very stressful days on the job and problems that come up are blamed on the workers. This cycle continues when the upset customers then take out their issues with management on the employees. This creates a really toxic work environment.  If you bring up potential/ongoing issues and try to resolve problems you get brushed off or straight up ignored. 
There is a really strange work benefit system here. Its almost like they flip a coin for each worker to decide who gets benefits, even for workers doing the same jobs- some get benefits some don't.  There is also NO boot allowance whatever soever. This is a job that kills a good pair of boots every 5-6 months and those boots come 100% out of pocket.  
One thing that is consistently good about this company is that you are always paid on time. The pay is not great and virtually impossible to negotiate after you are hired, but there is never an issue with getting paid. 
I am the type of worker who shows up every single day and always works overtime that is asked of me. I love to work! By the end of my time at Grand River I hated my job and dreaded every day that I had to go in.
 There are some great people to work with here and it has potential to be a good workplace. If there continues to be no job incentives and changes aren't made they are going to continue to have trouble keeping hard working employees.

The company itself is fine to work for and the people you work with are genuinely good fun people. But, I do have some complaints about the cost cutting methods. I won’t go into details but the owners are very cheap and it affects all the employees, equipment being neglected and tools in a poor state that are 15-20 years old are the two main issues. There also has been no raises for anyone in 2 years, company may be struggling but they will lose good people if they won’t pay them their worth, costs of everything have gone up dramatically both years but not even a .25 or .50 cent raise for employees that break their backs for this place is a bit disappointing, take care of your employees and they’ll take care of you.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The people I met were great and I learned so much from them. Also the customers were awesome. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not being able to advocate for my team without a lot of push back, which eventually leads to termination.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was great when I started but became very toxic after new management came in. Turns out it was toxicity coming from the top and my first manager was shielding us from it. The CFO is extremely disrespectful and doesn't treat employees well.

The people who work here are amazing, 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Customers picking up last minute orders 5 mins before close or in the pouring rain

Great ! Like a big family. Everyone is very friendly and understanding 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typical day is filling orders loading trucks and helping walk in customers

I worked for a couple weeks in the yard, I asked for reduced hours as I have a disabled girlfriend. The manager never goes through the owners or other managers, she decides to lie and make her own personal decision. For that I'm out of a job that I loved doing, and as the oldest in the yard, I worked hard for her and the owners of the company.
Play exactly by their rules, don't ask for anything

Negative place to work very understaffed high expectations with little pay 
Yearly raises and given and chosen based on favouritism not guaranteed 
Management sucks and if you speak up they will terminate you.


The yard staff is awesome, counter staff and management sucks.  Hired for a certain position, but was left at the counter...... With no training.  The pay is not great and you have to work long hours with miserable people. 
They will throw you under the bus any chance they get. 
Work somewhere else.  No wonder they can't hire people..... Or people quit within a month..... Or they let go of good employees.  That place is a joke. 

Some of the workers are great, some of them are just hot heads. You'll have to duck a lot, especially when the one worker is in a mood and throwing things around. 
Also, don't go to management about anything, they will give you the whole "I appreciate where you're coming from" but not do anything about the problem. 

relaxed for the most part, however top-up management should be handled better so that certain counterparts down the ladder do not feel as if they are disengaged from the work that is being done, other than that pretty overall relaxed job

great place to work not much room to advance. Great place to start out in the working world. Had lots of learning experiences in sales department as well as many working in the yard and beginning my training on all different types of heavy lifting equipment.
