What is a typical day like for you at the company?


- *Morning:* Help clients with waking up, personal hygiene (bathing, dressing), and serving breakfast. Check vital signs and give meds on time.
- *Midday:* Assist with meals, mobility, and maybe some light exercises. Update care notes and chat with family or nurses about any changes.
- *Afternoon:* Supervise junior caregivers, plan care activities, and handle any emergencies calmly.
- *Evening:* Help with dinner, wind-down routines, and make sure clients are comfy and safe for bedtime.

Basically, it’s a mix of hands-on care, paperwork, teamwork, and keeping good vibes for the clients.

i had the best interview at head office and was so excited to start working for this company. 
soon after starting however i found out that all of the staff are so stuck in their ways and won't give you a second to suggest a different way of doing something. 
it is very cliquey and lots of staff talk smack about other employees. 
i was treated like a child by all of the staff and was constantly getting in trouble for the stupidest things. 
they cared more about the colour of my shoes and the type of shirt i work rather than the fact that i truly cared for the residents (unlike alot of others). i made so many good relationships with the residents and loved seeing them everyday. i actually gave the residents the time of day to ask them how they are and get to know them. 
however, out of the blue i was fired because i wasn't a "good fit for the environment"... do not recommend. 
this job costed me two months of my life i will never get back. made me break out from the toxicity of the workplace. 
AND on top of that, there is no room for advancement!! most of the staff working there have been doing the same job for 20+ years!! 
trust me when i say this; your love and care will be valued ANY OTHER Workplace but here. 
this is the review you needed to convince yourself the pay IS NOT WORTH IT!!

I find that Green Acres Foundation has a very family-oriented culture. Whenever I speak to other staff members, everyone talks about how the best part of their job is the residents, and everyone is focused on improving the resident's quality of life. Things may be chaotic at times, but everyone is willing to help out for the sake of the residents.

I have heard that the Admin and Management have been improving over the past few years and we do a lot more engagement events, and the events are getting better, but I'm relatively new and I think it's been pretty good since I've started. I know some sites are better for engagement events that others, but my site is very good for it.

Benefits are good, free meals at the lodges, etc.

I wish there was more connection between the sites - I mainly just know my site and none of the other staff at the other sites. I hope to see more events in the future that combine all of the sites together.

The facility that I worked at has plenty of really lovely residents and a lot of amazing staff. I was welcomed and appreciated by the care team immediately. Sadly, Green Acres Foundation chooses to hire site managers that have zero nursing experience. Most are former retail sales “professionals”, who have “worked their way” up the food chain. The site manager spends most of his/her time obsessing over the dress code which includes all black shoes, as well as pretending to be a nurse and micromanaging. New staff are expected to purchase a few hundred dollars worth of company policy attire. AHS pays for residents to have some one on one time with staff,  Green Acres foundation does not allow for fraternizing with residents. If you are looking for a supportive management team who appreciates compassionate, caring and collaborative staff, then this company and facility IS NOT the place to apply to or work at. 

Will never recommend working for Green Acres Foundation until they clean up the lazy, uncaring staff and managers at the Lodges.  No Employee Handbook rules are being followed and managers are just as bad for not enforcing them or following them either.  No accountability or consequences given to insubordinate staff and the welfare of the residents are constantly being made at risk especially on nights and weekends.  Manager never drops in at those times to see these dangerous gong shows and even during the day the manager turns a blind eye to the staff who are on their phones and gossiping and wasting time instead of doing the job they are paid to do...All the responsible respectful staff get tired of doing the lazy staff’s jobs on top of their own...get frustrated, worn out and quit to find a less dangerous and more organized workplace to put their efforts  into.  Sad...

My personal experience with GAF had a negative impression both, with the manager and some of team workers, who absolutely have not showed any respect towards new staff trying to bulling them often. The manager never approached me asking about my challenges and improvements when I was hired, basically demonstrated zero interest. I would say unprofessional approach and no collaboration among new hired people. So much unfair and inequality I noticed towards the new employees, and especially people with different ethnical background. The priorities would be given as usual towards the employees who worked there longer.  I would Not recommend applying to Sunny South Lodge.

Management micro manages everything. If you're too friendly with residents they assume you're being inappropriate 
Thr workload is too heavy and they only have the minimum amount of staff to do the work 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Clicky. High stress. Unforgiving 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Morning report, then getting people dressed and ready to go, a minimum of 2 showers or baths

They pick at everything and even if you do it exactly like they approved before they will change it. It’s impossible to do anything correctly 
 The organization is micromanaged and unorganized 
No positive feedback always negative you will never hear how good you are doing unless you are the “pet”
You are over worked and underpaid 
Some of the policy’s are very old school and outdated 
This organization needs a big head management change 
You will hear the management talk about you and what might need to change instead of them including you in the conversation to understand why you may of made that mistake or don’t something a different way. 

The Foundation values integrity, honesty, respect, and loyalty. They value their staff and provide RRSP and benefit options. Health and drive safe programs are given to staff and employees receive a card which provides discounts at local stores. And the meals the cook make are great!

Last month the Foundation invited staff and their family to a movie night at the Mill and each year they provide an awesome long service award night. 

I recommend working here as staff and residents are wonderful and my manager is firm but fair.

I used to work at one of the lodges. The manager smelt like booze most mornings. He spent most of his time outside smoking. He had his favorites staff. the rest got the worst shifts. If you were not one of the favorites and complained about the shifts he would threaten to take away your hours and hire someone else. Then the favorites would gossip about the rest and cause more problems. Need to clean house, starting with this manager.
