Green Drop Lawn Care

I have worked many of companies, and I have worked many that I thought were bad but this one takes the cake. 
They give you a half an hour of training. 
The managers beat around the bush about FIRST PAY because they know many people would not be happy to WAIT A MONTH TO GET PAID. As well as they don't even know if you get paid overtime or if your hours get banked. You might ask yourself what makes a good manager...surely one that can answer all your questions? 
The manager themselves aren't highly qaulified to be managers, they spend half their time shrugging their shoulders about important questions from their employees who need answers! 
They CARE VERY LITTLE about their employees.
They LIE about hours. You never know when you are getting off. You are expected to work your balls off for them, but get treated like dirt in the process. At the beginning they will be nice, but don't let them fool you. It's very clear you are just a number to them. 
At first they start you off with about 28 houses then they increase it to 39 houses...(I don't know if they increase it more, didn't work long enough to find out) but if you are a hardworker and work fast and finish all your houses you will either have to start ANOTHER WHOLE ROUTE or help someone who is slower than you with theres. One guy had to start a whole new route, and didn't get off till 9PM.
They said working Saturdays would be temporary, but to be honest I don't believe that for a second.
You work Saturdays...they will say "Don't worry Saturdays are early days" but no it's another 10 hour shift.

They have deadlines to meet. So, as long as they meet them, they don't care if you're blue in the face, you've have blisters on your feet from cheap rubber boots they provide..hey, you are lucky if they have your size! Which reminds me, they'll keep saying "they're going to order more boots" they never do. So, they tell you if you go buy your own pair for about $30.00 they will refund you that money. So, you go buy a pair that ACTUALLY fits you, and no refund.

These are just the few things that they will lie about.

But don't take my word for it see for yourselves....

- I would have fluctuating work loads, working with the call center (incoming calls), I worked in the receptionists position on the occasions she was unable to fulfill her duties, and assisted with other administrative duties.

- I learned how to manage my time and when to establish my limits   on my time. I learned how to handle large volumes of fluctuating calls and targets. I learned more ways to calm an excited customer and how to investigate issues they may be having with their services.

- My direct management changed a few times in the brief time I was on staff. Multiple promises for advancement were made but they failed to follow through and terminated me with a weeks notice. I was approached in late summer with a verbal offer to stay through the cold season and was unprepared for the termination.

- I had wonderful co-workers, my supervisor was a wonderful woman and the team of seasonal staff was a colorful array of personalities. I will genuinely miss some of the people I had the pleasure of working with but after the broken promises I am not sorry to move on with my career.

- The hardest part of the entire job was the unique situation I came into in the company (changing management and procedures), making it difficult to deliver efficient and appropriate assistance. The company went through a number of changes this year and I ended up a casualty of those changes too.

- The most enjoyable part of the job was my customers, definitely  my wonderful, understanding, patient customers! They had reasonable expectations that relied heavily on the Customer Service Rep they connect with on the phone or in person. I had good laughs and nice chats and listened to some awesome and fantastic stories. One time we had a Barbeque and that was nice.

the negative reviews really speak for itself. managers give you a half an hour of training, and send you out the next day. you could get let go over a small mistake because their equipment isn’t working properly but you will be blamed. you only get paid on the 15th or the last day of every month. they don’t really care about their employees, you’re just a number to them. the shift you’re scheduled for isn’t accurate you never know when you are getting off. you are expected to work your butt off for them, but get treated like dirt in the process. they make you help people who are slower than when you have finished your route of 40 houses super fast in plus 30 degree weather. the biggest joke of all is they said working Saturdays would be optional but there not. it’s mandatory if they don’t meet the deadline. 10 hour days, sometimes longer all just to work on Saturday that they said was optional. they say "don’t worry Saturdays are early days" but no it's another 10 hour shift. beware lots of relatives work there, they will come first before an outsider, you will feel like nothing. sometimes the managers smoke on the job but tell you not too. good luck working here. 

The lawn care industry is a challenging industry to work in at any level, and to Green Drop's credit they have devoted a not insignificant effort and investment into areas of the business that make working there a genuine pleasure: cutting edge technology, management and reporting tools, and an evolving framework of staff engagement and support (professional and personal). The work environment within each department is generally very close-knit and supportive, and top performers are recognized and generally provided with opportunities to advance. Company perks and functions are generous and fun and GD should be an equally rewarding experience for both entry-level frontline workers and those looking to build a long-lasting career. Work is hard and fast-paced but nothing beyond reasonable expectations for those willing to put the work in. Overall a great place to work and be a part of.

Roundup is the product being sprayed, then some general fertilizer. What this does is makes lawns lazy and dependent on the nutrients in the fertilizer, and adds toxic chemicals to it to kill the broad-leaf plants or just about anything else... including dogs or other pets. (My co-worker was informed a dog was killed because he had sprayed in the area) And this stuff is sticky, roundup gets on your clothes, skin, get's tracked into your home... If you have a family, be very careful about how you apply your chemicals, and be very careful about not bringing this stuff home with you. I was not fully informed by the company during my entire year with them of the possible grave consequences it could have on developing babies and reproductive health in women... and there was a general sense of ignorance and disregard to health and safety while I worked there also. If you need the job, do your homework and take care of yourself. Very independent, alone in a company truck with a clipboard full of work, go.

I thought it was a fun job in Red deer. Easy to learn products.
Your selling starts at 3pm and goes to 8:30 at night. I made good money 3 yrs ago. It slowly got worse the yr after and not to good last yr. The economic times say hey I will fertilize my own lawn instead of green drop doing it. Unless you have deep pockets. Pay time comes around and you're missing commission's from your sales. Now you have to back track. I didn't get paid on quiet a few sales. Brought it up couple times and nothing was done about it. Too busy to look into it then its too late and forgotten about. I thought it was dishonest of the management to do that. I would go in with caution read between the lines. To me honesty and integrity are on top of my list. Without that it's not fun anymore. It's up to you if you wanna jump in a van get dropped off in a subdivision and knock on 50 doors a night. It's only for 4 months of work then it comes to an end. Make sure you get paid. Good luck.

Fast paced environment and high expectations with minimal training. 
There was very little training, coaching or mentoring.  The manual was the trainer - - - the manual is a tool that does not replace a trainer.  I enjoyed the work, but spent a lot of time flipping pages in the manual to get answers which took time to complete the tasks at hand.  The turnover is high for this position --- your are good for about three months and they terminate you because they get tired of you maybe asking too many questions! They play mind games with you. I actually really liked the job, but it is shortlived - no choice of mine. Office Administrator continously changing mind daily about tasks and accused of not doing what you were told to do. One day there is one set of rules, the next day different set of rules. Good luck to future applicants.

It seems great at first, starts out above minimum wage and management tries to be your friend. Unfortunately, pay increase is very slow. They ask you to go above and beyond your job description/requirements for no additional pay and then pressure you to apply for promotions that you don’t want (due to poor pay increase or lack of direction from management.) The management team is VERY cliquey. They tend to shut people out when they’re having a bad day or week and put a ton of pressure on some employees and absolutely none on others who seem to be higher up. You want to stay solely for your coworkers but aside from that, it’s really hard on your mental health. Overall, I would do it for one season but this is not a good place long term. 

I have worked for Green Drop for 2 years now. There is a great family culture here. Many opportunities to make meaningful contributions to the company and recognition is given. There is hard work to be done, but, there is also time to relax and enjoy the ride. Management (for may style) is great. They give you expectations and leave you to manage at your pace and style. As long as you get things done, they do not micro manage. Some decisions WILL be made for you, but as long as you remain flexiable, they tend to work out well. 
It's not prefect, but worth it! You get out of it what you put into it... Don't ever expect a free ride. You will work hard and be rewarded well.

The job itself is great (lawn care, ferts, applying weedkiller, driving around the city, freedom to just do your job).

If you work at a healthy pace you will not be making 40 hours a week. If you work at a healthy pace you will be doing someone else's route at the end of your shift every day after completing your route. People call in sick and leaving their shift early every other day. So you're actively thinking I'll slow down because I'm getting paid by the hour. Some rude managers that treat you poor for their lack of clarity. Just an overall corporate, impersonal, by the numbers place for an otherwise great job. But your mileage may vary.
