Griffin Centre Mental Health Services

The NGO Griffin Centre seeks to help adults and youth with addiction and disability. There the company offered a fun integrative orientation program where I was happily greeted by the staff. I learned the ins and outs of the job through a young mentor who had previously done the job as well. It was enjoyable to go to work and the people were incredible to work with. Unfortunately the benefits and salary were low but that is expected with a not-for-profit corporation. Overall an incredible place to work where I learned a variety of skills and offered lots of opportunity for advancement.

A typical week work consists of meeting with clients for individual and family counselling, writing reports, visiting program-sites, completing case notes and other administrative duties, attending  team clinical meetings, service coordination and case management. 
The company allows a lot of autonomy and one can create their own schedule with their clients.The management is supportive. The other employees are approachable and friendly.

I was a student in one of the residential programs. I was provided with a lot of support when working. Staff were very welcoming. I gained a lot of experience in many ways. I was able to attend appointments with clients, attend weekly team meetings and monthly clinical meetings. I participated in intakes and discharges. Overall, I had an amazing experience and would recommend it.

Griffin Centre is an amazing place of employment. The progress they accomplish with their youth is astonishing. Helping youth reintegrate into their families, maintaining the safety of both these youth and their care givers. Behaviour modification is a big part of what they do in this program and the staff are all competent at doing so.

I would go to a meeting place and as a group would go to different job sites. I learned how to work in a warehouse, food banks and in gardens. We were always supervised at every job site, my co-workers helpful and fun to be around. The difficult part of my job was working in the gardens all summer. Knowing I'm getting work experience.

great for both employees and future clients, i have worked with the griffin centre for over a year and i love the culture of the job and the organizations' dedication to serving the marginalized population. they do great work especially with the dual diagnosed community as well as making it known that every body counts.

A great learning environment as you get to participate in different programs. Management and staff are very supportive. Life work balance can be hard based on demands of documentation/administrative needs. The work is very fulfilling.

At the house I was working at, the employees I worked with were generally pretty good. But the management was horrific. Your work is unappreciated, and any feedback you provide often lands on deaf ears.

Griffin Centre provides individuals with an opportunity to build skills and work with some of Toronto's most marginalized clients. Skills training is done on a yearly basis upon availability.

worked there for 2 years. never treated right. horrible manager/supervisors hated it. supervisor never cared about anything we as a full time team said. within the last year 6 full time team members stopped working for this house.
