The process was quick within two days after applying manager got back to me and set up an interview. The interview wasn't really an interview at all. Was asked all of two questions. Worst part was being told and offered part-time to full-time and then after accepting the position and being hired I was then told that my position was only seasonal/temporary. Manager didn't really care who or what I was about it didn't seem to matter like you're hired anyways. Didn't care about your goals or anything like that. Which made me feel that there was no care or support for the managers team or Employees. 

The culture was wish washy co-workers werent friendly at all unless they felt like you were on their side or would be on their side. Talked down to or about you with other co-workers. 1 hr into my first shift no one really acknowledged me or introduce themselves after I would introduce myself and wasn't being trained. Didn't even know who my leader was or who was suppose to train me. Basically was set up for failure as I was just thrown out onto the sales floor with no knowledge or direction. If not having had retail experience I would have not known the basics of any store and what I could do. Half of my first shift was spent walking around the sales floor greeting customers as I didn't know what I should be doing as no one was informing me of the expectations and what needed to be done in the store. Then to have a co-working come up and ask me why I'm just standing around and not doing anything when there's things that need to be done. And also why I couldn't find an item in the store. Terminology they used for specific things or when asking someone for something was confusing BUT again with no training how would I understand. Absolutely everything had to be radio in on the mics, there was no face to face communication. Co-workers/management wouldn't talk or help you unless they felt that they liked you. 
Very Unprofessional. 

I wouldn't recommend working here, unless you like that type of work environment and the discount

Managers are friendly only to your face and work in a very superior manner and treat the sales associates as inferiors. Not very genuine staff, very superficial relationships. The biggest thing I learned after finding a new job is, some managers truly care about you as a person and building a bond, at Dynamite that does not exist. I used to dread going in to work. Where I work now, managers are very caring and helpful and make an effort to improve the workplace. They decorate the staff room for occasions and bring treats every now and then. By the way, the lunch room was a small table and 2 chairs located in the back storage room at Dynamite. There was too much pressure to make sales goals at Dynamite and they reprimand you too often for not making those goals even though, you have to be able to give customers space... you cannot just keep harassing them to buy things. Also, currently I get 15 min breaks for working 4 hours, at Dynamite I was given a weird look when I asked for one so I never took more than 1. Also, you had to announce every time you went to the washroom which was annoying and put pressure on you to hurry and go because the managers are practically counting how many minutes you're in there! The only enjoyable thing was the 50% discount. Although, if you don't use it you get reprimanded. You MUST dress in dynamite clothes all the time. The one day I didn't my manager got very upset even though she told me on my first day it's okay to wear neutral colors that the store is carrying even if they are not dynamite. Also, if you leave your assigned section, they get annoyed by that too BUT they also don't want you standing around, so if you leave to clean another section and happen to miss a customer behind you in your original section, you get in trouble for that too. Overall, that was my worst experience in any workplace. I really would not recommend working at dynamite to anyone unless you plan to stay long-term and are an introvert with the staff but an extrovert with customers. Well, at the Surrey location at least. I just cannot stress how much I love my new job compared to that one... i felt like I was in a jail (not to be dramatic)

Great discount and benefits,  employees are nice, can work from home and affordable cafeteria food/drinks.

The only downside of this job was management.

Expect not to get properly trained and then getting cussed at by the manager for not doing the job well. Did not get much support or help. Was given multiple task to do at the same time with such little time frame. All task takes a lot of time to do because it has to be perfect. There’s really no place for mistakes. Felt neglected, invisible, unsupported, overworked, drained, stressed and pressured. This job had a big impact on my mental health. 

Management basically is a mess. They have no sense of direction. Can be unresponsive to certain things or unclear. Will change their mind multiple times on how they want things done when you’ve accomplished or half way through the task.

The manager gave me a lecture on how they did not have a life because they worked too much (after hours or would work on their days off) and said you know I also have a family. As if that was my problem.

They expect you to stay late / do over time to finalize the work. So if you’re looking for a job where you can have a work / life balance, I do not recommend this place. Did not take proper breaks or no breaks because of the amount of work. 

Once, I got super sick might’ve been covid. But I still went to the office. When asked if I can go home my manager said it’s better you stay here in the office. But when they were sick as well as another colleague they were both able to stay home / work from home until they felt better.

Depending on which department you work for you can get a good manager but my manager was dreadful. 

Overall, it was a really bad experience. Very toxic management. 

I've been working for Groupe Dynamite for over 2 years. Overall it has been negative and not a place I would recommend anyone to work.

Management is the main problem, District managers have unrealistic expectations and expect their staff to complete many tasks on top of making daily targets. However, they do not allow store managers and key holders to bring more staff in to keep wage costs down, leading to under staffing and stressful conditions constantly. If you are lucky enough to be promoted, you will be highly underpaid. Key holders are required to essentially run the store on their own as well as visual merchandising duties, customer relations, reaching targets etc. They are barely compensated more than minimum wage despite the multiple roles they take on. In my time at dynamite, at least 3 employees have left due to inadequate compensation.

Store managers often have favourites, resulting in unqualified employees receiving promotions instead of people who genuinely deserve them. It is often a race between the employees to gain the favourite spot in order to be promoted. 

Store managers also do not receive adequate training. In my experience, my store manger did not handle issues in the workplace properly and it resulted in a toxic work environment. 

The only positive part of the job is the 50% off all merchandise, which is the reason many people stay. You get the discount at dynamite at garage and dynamite as they are sister stores which is great. However, the discount can only be used for yourself and you are penalized if you buy for others, even if they're in your family. 


 

This is the first retail store I actually liked working at. To be honest, I do not like working retail.

Dynamite has a nice training program. I was trained on most things in a little over a few days but still not fully trained... so that's a little disorganized.

The managers are great, and I like them all, but why does one store need four managers?

Not enough hours as there's 20+ girls working at one location.
Love the discount, cute clothes and good quality.
Sales aren't pressured on you like most places. It's more relaxed I find.

It gets a little boring though, with such repetitive tasks... but I cant ask for much working in retail.

Cash register is really outdated and takes a long time to do some transactions.. especially some returns.

THe only thing I didn't like about it was the mandatory meetings, which were always on a Sunday at night. For most people, it's fine but for people like me, who have another job in the mornings and having to commute to work all the time, it just isn't feasible. 

I don't see myself moving up in this company. I don't plan to work in retail, but even if I wanted to this wouldn't be the place to embark on your retail management journey.

Over all, I like the company and what it stands for. They treat their employees well and we get free stuff sometimes too.

Edit: I also forgot, the back room was absolutely the worst thing I have ever seen. It looks like it hasn't been cleaned since the first day the store opened up. Dust everywhere, moldy drinks, completely disorganzied. I know it's small, but I've worked in smaller kitchen restaurants that were cleaner than that.

No benefits. No paid vacation. Drama. Bosses choosing sides and in the drama. Very immature. Not good role models. Let anything slide as long as you are friends with them and compliment them. Backwards policies — meaning what is actually against policy, they do not follow but will make up their own rules that need to be followed. Favoured people. Pay was terrible. Sizing — bad because did not always carry my size, and cannot use our discount online. ALSO your discount is not available at every other location (as the majority or major companies in this world are), can literally ONLY BE USED at your location or the next closest sister location. Breaks were terrible. They did not believe in 15mins even if you work 5hrs. They tell you to just grab a drink or take a 5min break not a 15mins one — because they do not legally have to allow it since it’s company PAID!!?? Says it’s a waste of time when they could be selling more.
Everything about here was terrible there was literally only 2 people I got along with — the first one quit literally 2 weeks after working there, and the other was in school full time and had another job so I did not see her often. 
Everything about here was bad. I only stayed because of the discount & the fact that I did not want to have to go job hunting again.
P.S - No discount on sale items.
P.P.S — District manger had racist tendencies and would make completely inappropriate jokes. But who can I tell if he was the DM...?

I honestly loved working there, and it was a lot better then my previous job in a department store. The fitting room was probably my favourite, because I loved talking to the customers and telling them how they honestly looked in their outfits. 
I also loved including jewelry and accessories to go with the outfit. 
My coworkers were probably the most chill people I have ever met, and you could literally joke around with them and they were honestly just amazing. 

The only thing i disapprove of is management. They are probably the most unprofessional people I have ever met. I'm very big on respect, and if you don't give it back to me, then I will turn on you. 

This retail experience has shown me a different perspective of how people can be cruel and careless about their associates. 

The managers were all older then me, but they acted very immature. I understand the pressures and stress of working in retail around Christmas time, but the whole idea is finding a way to deal with that stress. If you can't handle it, then don't be a manager. If you don't know how to talk to your associates, then don't even bother talking. 

I'm a human being and I deserve to be treated with respect. Just because I'm at a lower rank then you, does not mean you have the permission to treat me like I'm worthless. No one should feel like they're worthless

They are very focused on customers and also the floor. There's a lot of detailing, and if your not a robot, then you probably shouldn't work there.

The training process for new employees is inadequate; staff are placed on the floor with minimal guidance and are simply instructed to ask questions if needed. However, management often displays frustration when questions are asked. New hires are frequently left alone on the floor despite their limited knowledge, relying solely on headsets for assistance. In some instances, management does not even wear headsets, leaving employees without support.

There is significant pressure from management regarding sales performance. Employees are regularly reminded—sometimes harshly—about poor sales, even on slow days or during inclement weather when customer traffic is minimal. Management’s communication style often involves yelling over headsets, creating a tense and unproductive work environment.

Scheduling is another concern, with most employees receiving only three-hour shifts unless they have seniority. Many are scheduled for as little as one or two of these short shifts per week, and employees are explicitly told that no hours can be guaranteed.

The workplace culture is extremely toxic, characterized by fear rather than collaboration. Management is perceived as unapproachable, and employees are often too intimidated to interact with coworkers for fear of reprimand. As a result, team cohesion is virtually nonexistent, and employees rarely get to know their colleagues.

I worked for 5 years and within my time here i was promoted to keyholder and then visual assistant shortly after. I loved the girls but the company is not the greatest as your talents are not appreciated. My store did not have the support it needed being a fast-paced/high volume environment. It was me and one other assistant with no store manager for 2 years. I was not paid enough to do all the things they expect of us (ive asked for a raise many occasions but they kept telling me to wait). Online/uber orders, layout: window and manni changes every 2 weeks, markdowns and promotions, stock, etc. 

Tending to customers and upselling is #1 
BUT there are deadlines and extra things that need to be done 
BUT you must make budget at the end of the day and your conversion must be high - you can never win!! 

On your feet all day, 8-10 hour shifts (doing 39-44 hrs biweekly) with only 30 minute break. They do not care about your physical and mental health even after many times addressing it. I was forced to put work first: I didnt have many options of anyone taking my shifts if I needed (because it was only 1 other manager). They pressure you every day wanting more and always asking for an “ACTION PLAN” for things that are out of your control.
 
Had 50% off regular priced items but you had to buy NEW all the time to wear to work and it was still expensive. Only work here part time because all you would have to worry about is your own personal sales. 

I worked at Garage when I first turned 16 and loved it there! It really pushed me out of my comfort zone by having to greet the customers, and create outfits that were on brand! I only left because I found another job with more pay! Years later I returned and not much had changed! New team members and management, but they were all still amazing! Management was extremely informative and well organized! They were also very accommodating when it came to my school schedule. I loved coming to work! It was fun coming to the store to see all the new clothes (careful not to spend all of your pay check on cute clothes; although there is an excellent discount)! There were times when the store was busy, but everyone had a zone for a certain amount of time, then you would switch around throughout the day. Making the day go by quickly! Greets was fun as you were able to talk to customers and tell them about new products! Fits was great as you could recommend pieces to complete an outfit, or compliment a customers style! Working at the till was straight forward! There were also times where the store was slow, but that allowed time for branding/stock and ship from stores! I personally did not find anything challenging about working at Garage, however, if you are not confident in talking/greeting people and making honest recommendations the job could seem intimidating! I loved working at Garage and I would recommend it to anyone who is outgoing and into fashion!
