I started working for this company in April 2016. All was well until I started realizing that the management was the worst of all I have seen to date. I was given a salary of 8$ less an hour than the previous manager, taken 5 days of vacation in the past 2 years, had to work every single weekend during the rush period and work overtime as well during the week. All because my immediate supervisor could not provide with extra help, due to budgeting issues. Here is some of the points that should convince anybody who applies for a position at Touchette, to not go through with it.

- High turnover rate. A company should never be on the hunt to fulfill their most important roles every 6 months or so. I have seen during my short time at the company that warehouse managers tend to quit after the rush periods due to the extreme nature of the workload they are given, including myself.

-Lack of training. I started as an order picker, then promoted warehouse manager after the previous one got fired. I NEVER got any training whatsoever to be able to fulfill my duties. The company simply does not provide any kind of training for any position. You have to ask people around and guess what solutions are best. 

-Security. I have seen many times some accidents that could have been fatal. Most of them due to the cages holding the tires. They were used and in very bad shape, and the company could not provide new ones due to budgeting issues. I had to use them anyways because of the amount of tires we were receiving, and the ministry of labor was informed of the issue. Nothing was done. The management, again, could not take care of important issues like this. No health and security committee existed at the time of my departure.

-Communication. Nobody in the company knows who to report to, who to contact for certain issues, and my immediate supervisor was hard to reach, unless it was for something he wanted to resolve right away. 

-Top-Heavy business. Too many executives brainstorming, too few employees tasked with executing. It is important to have strong leadership, but this company obviously lacked of it. My immediate supervisor was always in meetings, brainstorming ideas, trying to create plans. But nothing ever changed. 

There is so many things that went wrong during my time working for them, and I know I am not the only one.

A typical day is busy and often stressful, with a lot of pressure to manage tasks quickly and handle unexpected issues.

What I believe I learned
I’ve learned how to work under pressure and adapt to challenges, though much of it comes from necessity rather than proper training or support.

Management gives direction but communication and employee support are lacking, which makes the job harder than it should be.

The culture feels more task-driven than people-driven, and at times it lacks recognition for employees’ efforts.

Working with a few supportive colleagues and the satisfaction of completing tasks despite challenges.

A typical day as a order picker for Touchette would start with punching in of course. Then I would head to my locker, put away and lock up my personal items. They would have barcode scanner's near the lockers and after putting my stuff away and dawning my harness the next step is getting my scanner. Many times the barcode scanner would malfunction or simply not work and I would have to seek out management to resolve the problem. This happened regularly but it never bothered me to much because it meant some extra R.N.R before the rigors of the day. After i found a working barcode scanner I'd then find a lift truck, Do my circle check and complete my safety check list. What follows is hours of strenuous labour driving down long isles completing picker orders that I'd receive via barcode scanner. I was always encouraged to maintain my productivity and this environment kept me in shape and constantly on task. Although the people we're nice and the hours great the hardest part of the job is being positive while performing very repetitive tasks. 

I worked there for 3 years. Their passion is to hire immigrants to underpay them or get interns and not pay them. Everyone in my department is underpaid, immigrant or not. We are below the entry level salary (in Canada) for this position. They get rid of people and hire new people like we're numbers. In my 20+ years of work experience, I've never seen such horrible management. It's disorganized in every aspect. You cannot trust HR. Don't trust their comments on this website neither. You have to learn everything by yourself. You will be expected to work an insane amount of hours during the rush season. Someone got fired? No problem, just do your work and their work and we will never hire someone else to take that position. Nobody ever thanks you for your hard work. And yes, you will have too much work to do all year round.

There's so many red flags. Just run and don't look back.

Groupe Touchette has open positions in a number of key positions due to very high turnover (my dept was over 50%). Because of this, there is a lack of leadership. Key positions remain unfilled and so rather than having a global vision of how to fix existing and upcoming problems, everyone pulled their own direction.

Office environment is very cliquey. The office itself smells of tires to the point that I smelled getting home. Neon lights caused me a headache.

I started at group Touchette being told that there was little turnover and strong room for advancement. In my time there, the turnover was high, the projects stagnated and I saw no one promoted.

Job Security is assured if you perform with the team.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Lack of teamwork makes some days what some might call stressful.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Good. People enjoy working with others and those who don't seem to find other jobs.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Every day is usually enjoyable. I have been full time for 5 years and like it so much that I have never called in sick. They have never had to pay me for sick days and I have never left my team high and dry. Because I respect my co-workers.

People are very nice, Management seems far of, But you most likely have access to your direct manager. 
Pay only seems lower.

During peak time, winter transition to summer and vice versa. Its usually very busy. you have to be on your toes always.

Wages way bellow the region standards for the stresfull work environment and the amount of work you have to provide.
The management rather keep putting pressure upon the employees rather than rising salaries so they could hire new ones. The entire procurement department is understaffed since months, so don't expect neither any formation or career evolution except if you provide tremendous overtime. Some people there are sitting at the same position since 5years+.
Everyone is exhausted, at the limit of the burnout and their goal is to hit 5pm (or more) so they can rest.


A stable company with lots of potential and support for internal growth. I have watched as employees move upwards towards their career goals. Good management team. Solid HR department that is both supportive and well informed. Conducts yearly employee surveys to get the pulse of their employees then actually acts on the results. Good benefits. National company which will employees to relocate if they desire to do so. A Canadian family owned company which truly has a heart.

The culture in this building is toxic. The management treat staff like garbage and there are no standards.
I was recently let go for accidentally kicking a door. No warning. No conversation. It’s a toxic place that will squeeze whatever life you have out of you and walk on your corpse to get ahead. 
The song 9-5 by Dolly Parton fits well. 
They lie and fudge information to get ahead. 
The other staff are wonderful but the turn over is incredible because they can’t keep quality staff long.
