The culture has changed a lot over the years. The team is supportive of each other. Typically there is a lot of laughter in between mediating crisis support. The shelter is always full and busy with women and children’s advocacy and support. The crisis line is very busy. Management are hands off, supportive and pleasant to work with. The pay and benefits are decent. Employment is stable and secure. It’s a relatively healthy work environment but there are a few challenging characters like in every setting.  The rotating schedule can be challenging on the body but that depends on each individual.

I learned a lot and was very supported.  The outreach programs run differently than the shelter, but with the same core values.  Management styles are different depending on the program area.  I benefited from a very supportive Manager who mentored me and helped me grow as a clinician.  She is interested in her staff as a whole, including their personal and professional life.  I chose to leave due to personal circumstances but would recommend this employer.

I have been involved with GW-Women In Crisis since 2008.  I really enjoy the work (crisis counsellor) and look forward to every shift.  GW-Women In Crisis has a laid back atmosphere that allows you to branch out and get involved with all parts of our agency.  Salary and benefits are competitive and vacation/sick time are out of this world.  I am quite happy with my employment.

There is no room to grow beyond your role. There is a lot of politics and drama in the shelter. Management is passive aggressive and doesn’t offer a space for staff to speak/provide feedback. Overnights are a challenge. Lack of support or encouragement from the agency. The pay and benefits are good if you have full-time.

Their programs and services are committed to supporting and empowering women and children in being free from violence.  They are experts in the field of gender based violence.

The staff here maintain patient and respect when helping. Residents feel listened to and the staff members are very kind in helping them overcome their individual challenges.

This job field is a great place start for anyone who wants to work with DV/HT clients. Co-workers are supportive and have each other's back. Management could use some improvement.
