The current store manager is amazing.  She takes pride in her team and her store.  Upper management is lacking in support and they are focused on 2 things only - sales and production.  Yes, that is the job but goals are more easily accomplished with proper guidance.  The job itself is not easy.  It requires heavy lifting and standing for your entire shift.  You must also be able to handle dealing with some pretty gross stuff.  Keep in mind, this is a 2nd hand clothing store where clothes are delivered as is.  They are not washed prior to arriving to the store and they are not washed on site.  That being said - it is dusty, hard work and dirty BUT the ladies that work there are some of the best.  They strive for teamwork and keeping up positive morale - even with the stress and lack up support and guidance from upper management.  The quality of product is sorted very thoroughly to make sure only the best goes onto the sales floor.  You MUST have a good eye for detail.  You are expected to have time production goals and you must be flexible with your shifts.  There is no promise on stability for scheduling as upper management changes their minds a lot on what they expect from staff and their availability.  You must be able to move fast, efficiently and be able to move from station to station as needed. (Most of the Guy's Frenchy's are impacted by Upper Management this way but my specific review is for Truro, NS)  There is NO first dibs on items but you do receive a discount on your purchases after you have passed the 3 month probation period, which is pretty sweet.
My most favourite part about working there was being part of a great team of ladies.  I learned to appreciate 2nd hand clothing and found a passion for thrift shopping.

I would sort through the clothes bins on floor, before opening , to take out ripped or clothes that have been there to long.(It's a second hand store) Once opened I worked in back, warehouse area, and would sort through the clothes and every hour bring these sorted clothes to the floor for customers. I would have to open bails of clothes which are wrapped tightly with wiring straps(I would wear safety gloves and safety glasses as these wires would snap at times). I would then fill a shopping cart or cart with these clothes and bring to my work station and sort. Every day I would have to replace cashier for there breaks and sometimes work cash all day if they called In sick.I would also help customers on a regular basis. Once a week ,Fridays, before opening we all would clean everything. I learned a lot about clothes, that's for sure. The management was great and helpful. We seemed to go thru a lot of coworkers as it is a physically demanding in the warehouse part and was extremely dusty, moldy, smelly and wet clothes  to sort. therefore we did have a lot of wasted clothes to throw out. For me the pulling of the clothes out of the bails, sometimes took two girls to pull out and the dusty, moldy and smelly part was bad. The best part was working and restocking the clothes in the bins.

The manager at the digby Guy’s Frenchys is super immature. Went into every shift I had, called in once as I was sick, tried to call that day after to let her know I was still sick. Called way more than once without any answer. She then bitched me out for not calling sooner. Most people I worked with agreed how horrible her attitude is and how she should be fired. A few people even left too! She takes her personal life issues and brings them to work, taking all her anger out on the employees. 
If you see an ad posted by the manager or Guys Frenchys you might as well turn the other way. Not worth it and you won’t get paid ENOUGH to deal with her or the other BS there. 
If they have a customer still in there at 8:55 or closer to closing (9) they will stand together and call you names. I’ve watched them do so and really they act like they don’t get paid to put up with customers. 
If you have trouble remembering anything or you make a mistake don’t worry you WILL get yelled at by either the manager or someone else who thinks their job title gives them authority. 
Cons: manager, not a healthy/friendly work environment, negative people, horrible breaks, not a well paying job, etc. 
Pros: absolutely nothing other than when you get to leave the job 

My experience there was not the best. I felt like the employees and management were always talking behind my back and I never was involved with any drama and kept to myself. I was a super hard worker and they let me go due to loss of hours yet they are still continuing to hire new people so tell me how that makes sense! They let me go 5 minutes before my shift ended without any warning and brought me into the office and told me I would not be returning. They also only put out the schedule per week so I could never plan anything instead of having the schedule made for every 2 weeks or a month and it was always put out late. With requesting time off they would always forget the days and schedule me on regardless even after we had multiple conversations about why I need those days off. They also wouldn’t give out pay stubs regularly and you would have to wait for so long to get months worth. Overall the staff and management were very immature and unprofessional for their ages. I would not wish for anyone to experience this.

 Best part of working at Guy Frenchys is 25% off and some of the other staff

 The Manager in wilmot is a complete basket case!  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment isn’t very good dirty moldy  clothing sometimes and they won’t let you leave the table to wash your hands you are treated like robots. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Go in stand in one spot don’t talk and sort dirty used clothes, go to lunch  come back start sorting  again!

The friends you make is the best part and the discount.

People yell there a lot and there is a lot of favoritism in the store. You tend to do more then what your getting paid to do with very little respect.

It gets very toxic there and you could cut the tension with a knife most days

Go in work wherever is needed cash, sales floor ect

I liked the company but was often made to feel less than my worth. Wanted opportunities to grow but it seemed like the manager didn’t want me to grow. When hours were cut, I was told I couldn’t have more hours because I still lived at my parents house at the time and I still had a roof over my head even though I had rent to pay there. Felt pretty discriminatory. Employees constantly talking behind your back and spreading things that weren’t true. The air is very dusty and hard to breathe. I don’t miss working here.

You have to sort through dirty clothes, that are sometimes really disgusting at a fast pace in order to make the weight quota. If you have allergies don't work there

Work environment is toxic a lot of backstabbing

Typical day is just sorting clothes all day long

No support for employees and everyone is viewed as replaceable. Constant chaos and unreasonable demands. The safety of the employees are not taken into consideration at all. Poor pay for what is expected. Employees are undervalued. There is no clear communication from upper management so the store staff never have clear and defined goals. Mismanagement and no consideration for the staff safety is a daily routine.

This company was a great place to work at one time but no longer is

It is mentally abusive and the staff back stab eachother consistently

Passive aggresive behaviour and managers are hostile towards their staff

No longer enjoyable and any good energy that you bring in just gets sucked out of you by the time your day is over
