I worked for HYS for a very long time in the foster home, group home and office setting.    I was always supported, encouraged, and recognized by management.  Our HYS family; foster parents and group home staff kept close professionally and personally, which helped maintain morale, alleviate compassion fatigue and promote self-care.  I received ongoing training and made many meaningful connections.  I was lucky to be apart of countless success stories in the lives of the youth HYS cared for.  It was the most rewarding career ive ever had. 

Started here fresh out of Humber College my college placements didnt prepare me for this job as the residents were tough, really tough, the home had 2 staff who were there for 10 years each and were very helpful and taught me a lot. I worked there for 11 months and left to take my dream job at a school board. Bottom line is that I learned a lot from the staff and the residents . Met the owner once  he took the time to meet with me and make sure I got a good orientation and was supported I thought that was very nice.

I worked as a Youth Worker both in Toronto and Brampton the work was very challenging as the clients were hard to motivate... staff teams were mixed some very committed hard working people while others were just putting in time lots of belly aching about management but I found the owner to be very supportive and approachable. Wages are a little above average ... health benefits after 90 days .

Hanrahan has been a wonderful experience the owners and managers have provided us with take out food and a wage premium to thank us for our efforts  during the Covid crisis. The staff team has really come together and although the residents can be challenging, working with great people makes it better.

Hands down the worst group home agency around. They neglect the youth, bully the staff, and nobody seems to care about the importance of their role. There’s never enough food for the youth, and the house is always dirty. They treat their staff as though they’re disposable, and you are often left single staffed in crisis situations. Overall lack of support across the board - for staff and for youth. Worst group home experience.

Great work environment, with a supportive staff team and flexible work hours. However, the salary is not the greatest. Sometimes the clients may be very difficult to handle, bot overall more experience will help you in this environment. This is a great place to start a career

The company operates in the individual and family services. Children and youth are recommended by Children's Aid and placed into care. The work experience is challenging but also rewarding.

I started as a placement student and worked my way up. I found the other staff to be supportive and easygoing, and the managers really care about the kids and the service

HYS staff are a close knit bunch.  Working with youth brings all closer together for holiday occasions, recreational outings, and via training opportunities.

residential group home setting. very difficult job if you are not mentally sound and strong. management has changed so i am not sure if there have improvements in that area. not the best working experience
