A typical day tends to be very pressured, with management requesting and  expecting more and more to be achieved without additional hours/manpower which adds to an already unrealistic work load for the time allocated. Workplace culture can be quite toxic, with much gossiping and sometimes some backstabbing too. Certain individuals 'sucking up' to management and getting away with things that others wouldn't, definitely a favouritism culture. Fairly high pressure to complete online training, which in fairness, is paid over and above the standard hours worked. Pay rate average, in general terms, although probably slightly higher than other care home providers. Difficult to get holiday time authorised, the policy being that only one person from any department is allowed to be on holiday at any one time, which can create problems. The hardest part of the job is the unrealistic workload; it does not allow for any job to be completed to a good standard. Then, because things are not as they should be, staff are hauled over the coals and extra things are added to the list so that staff end up feeling exhausted and stressed. The most enjoyable part of the job is the housekeeping team, who are supportive and understanding of these difficulties. Also interacting with the residents who are, largely, lovely. This is the experience I had in one care home, others may be better organised and with a better work culture.

As a manager I take home work all the time to try an keep on top of my workload. If one of the management team leaves you are expected to take on their work as well as your own until they are replaced with no extra pay! The pay is good. Upper management talk the talk but it ends there. HC one senior managers turn up an completely ignore anyone below home manager level. Staff don't even know who they are wandering around the home. 
Care staff are great an always try to give the best care for the residents sometimes under really challenging conditions. 
Plus side you do get fed! 

There is a culture of bullying from Management not happy unless you are at their beck and call 24\7, At the care home where I work they are grinding people into the ground destroying morale, If they carry on  they will have no staff left to bully, arrogant and patronising management they need to be dealt with by CQC or unions because it should not be allowed in any employment and employees should not have to endure this kind of atmosphere or culture.The permanent staff and nurses are fantastic just being destroyed by higher management who have a culture of bullying and intimidation..

I really enjoy my work and my team that I work with. We all do our jobs well and get on with it. What I don’t like is the backstabbing and downright nastiness between day shift and night shift. Night shift get blamed for everything. We are perceived to be lazy. We work our butts off overnight to make sure that come into a good shift. Everyone is dry and safe with a number of residents up.  Certain staff can be vile and really upsetting and undermining. Unfortunately the manager is no help at all. She will stick up
For day shift leaving you feeling 10 times worse and thinking what’s the point.

Poorly run nursing home no notice for training that starts at 9am the next day when you have to get a sitter for 4 kids on a day you were ment to be off.
Over worked for very little pay.
Singed a contract for laundry assistant and they had me on my hands and knees scrubbing poo out of a corridor carpet, they also refused to give me set days so i was forced to work 7 weekends straight at one point as they had me working 4 days on 4 days off and never getting a full pay at the end of every month

Poor AD, MD and RQD support in the South of England, left to your own devices, criticised for their failings.  Expected to work 60-70 hour weeks but only salaried for 40.  Permanently On Call.  Unprotected annual leave


worked nights staff was lovely, thought management was lovely when first started once got to know them wasn’t so lovely, would jump down your neck as soon as walked in the building spoke to me like rubbish and in front of other people which was humiliating, manager used to ring me up and shout at me down the phone! Just an awful place to work and for residents to live and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone

The management of Douglas View Care Home are good and understanding.  They will help you to achieve your goals while working with them. 
 
It's a nice place to work👌 Just do your job and be respectful. 
Be a good team player, be helpful, and don't discuss your life at work.
Extra hours⌚ is given if you want.

Working in a care home is fun and challenging as well because you are able to meet different clients and personalities.  It trained my personality to be patient and understand other people"s feelings. My workmates are supportive as well which makes us a good team.  What I like with my job is that I am able to touch their lives even in just simple ways.

Disorganised, lack of person centred care, resident feedback not listened to or acted on. 
Our own feedback was discarded and ignored. 
My home was bought by HC-one and I was made to feel like I was the problem and that the changes put in place even though duplicated all of my work had to be done, this took all my time away from the residents and staff team.
