Answer all email and voice mail for the first hour, per-approve credit applications; call up customer for payment information, release credit holds.
I learn a little about the Construction Industry, who to give credit to and who not to extend credit to.
My manager was a terrific person, always ready to lend a hand and motivate his team.
No distortion here; it was a really hot political environment to work under, I was considered a threat to my co-worker because I was new temporary employee and I was doing very well productivity wise, many people have already lost jobs.

There was no hard part about this job, being the temp- they loaded the work on me but I endured.

The most enjoyable part of this job was helping out the customers, many of our customers thanked me for my determination to sort out their problems and the
Salesmen also liked me and even brought me treats, Coffee and donuts.

My favourite thing about working there was the fact that I could be involved in different aspects of the company as a sales clerk at the head office branch. I got to work with shipping/receiving, warehouse staff, IT, and upper management departments. I became familiar with our vendors as well as getting to know a lot of our regular customers. I met the company's President on a few occassions, as well as other branch managers from Ontario. It's a big company that operates with a family business mentality, and I got to take on a lot more responsibility than any other sales position I've worked. It was the most rewarding entry-level job I've ever had. I had to leave to return to school, and if they could offer part-time positions I would still be there.

HD Supply is one of the leaders in the industrial, safety and construction supply segment. A fast paced environment  operating around a core set of values focused on customer service and satisfaction. Providing daily opportunity to learn many valuable aspects of the industry such as customer and vendor relations, the sourcing and pricing of a vast array of products and services. You are part of a work place culture that strives for professionalism and accountability as well as a sense of accomplishment in the ability to provide solutions to an ever changing variety of customer needs.

For the remaining few of us who are still employed at HD Supply FM Canada, the entire culture has changed with the current management structure. They speak of an open door culture, but there's increased silos in this organization. Hiring only friends and family. In the last 24 months there has been an unprecedented amount of sick leaves and turnover that have never been seen in the history of HD Supply FM. This was a great place to work.Not so much now under the current management structure.

The GM loves hiring all his friends from his previous employer.  So unless you worked with him before you don’t get a promotion. All managers have come from outside. None internal. The GM loves to talk about personal growth and development yet he hasn’t grown or developed a single person.  Just hires friends. 
We had good managers but most have left under his misguided leadership. 

The bonus is OK if they don’t prevent you from growing your sales. Unfortunately many obstacles are put in front of your sales. 

Typical day;
Manage customers that come the store or phone in orders
Maintain and shelve stock
Make outbound calls and visits to customers to increase sales
Display and organize product
Ship and receive product

I really did like this job, the environment was great and the management was wonderful. However they are a corporation, and as such they painted all employees with generally the same brush. I had worked very hard, exceeded my goals and they simply brushed me off when I asked for increased pay.

Constantly making changes with no communication.  Sales reps have always received credit for ship to exceptions, but that has all been removed without letting anyone know.  There is always the feeling of sneaky and underhanded shenanigans going on.  Their only concern is what is best for the shareholders and care less about customers.  HD's customer service has gone from the highest regards for satisfaction to only caring about profit and bottom line for their stock prices.

I spent 18 years working for another wholesale distributor. I assure you though HD is fast paced there is a tonne more support here than most of the others.
They have always allowed me creative freedom to run my branch. Their support during illness is also impressive. 
I've been swayed away in the past, but honestly I am very much locked to this company.
If my commute could be shorter I'd be happy

Having more reliable OSR for the branches would be nice.

Company was better off before it went public. Management is horrible. No room for advancement unless you're one of the few that management likes. If you're in a position that is stressful and doesn't have support from your manager, you will be removed and terminated from your job. Years of being with this company doesn't matter. You're just a number, not an employee.

Management treat persons as if they are nothing. Supervisors have absolutely no respect and once they dislike you will do anything to kick you out even make false claims. Their culture is gossip. Make sure you know your workplace and Human rights you may need it. Undercover racism. They disgust me just by the way they treat people. Don’t be fooled by free meals. They use the fact that theyre not unionized  $20/hr
