Teamwork is a big deal here, not just in my office, but across the company. The employee ownership is absolutely fantastic and the company shows that in many more ways than just rising stock value. I've been with the firm over 15 years now, and I've never felt the firm would do anything unethical, never worried about having work, have always felt challenged, and part of the team. Leadership really does have a servant leadership mentality and have an open door policy.

HDR made a name for themselves, but company values are just a facade.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not knowing when they release you of your duties. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They tried hard at first to engage you in health and fitness program but there is no consistency…people are overworked.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Work on project, they have lunch and learns which are very nice once a week, meetings, and more project work.

HDR is a great company to start with. The organization is employee-owned and you really feel the tendency towards collaboration. However, experiencing the full benefits of HDR depends on what supervisor or manager you end up with. Although they have lots of really smart and really great people, they have their blindspots where many do feel left out or overlooked no matter how hard they work or how much they try to communicate their enthusiasm and willingness to expand their experience. 

It’s what you’d expect from a company this large—huge disconnect between upper management and everyone below them. You become a number in a system that no one really cares about. Projects are usually pretty interesting but sometimes you get stuck with a low budget or short timeframe and no one above you will care, they’ll just keep pressuring you. Salary is horrible and very little opportunity to move up. Tech infrastructure looks like it dates back to the 90s and is a nightmare to work with. 

For the industry I worked in, HDR had some great people. I could trust their work and trust their values. I did burn out over and over again though. Not much money in the industry I was in and the company just wanted to bid cheap to win projects, leaving project managers stressed out to deliver.

The company is very fast pace and the people are nice.

However, if you like crazy overtime, lack of direction and incompetent manger/senior staff, this is a good place to start.

Ever since working at this company, there are so much work pressure and deadlines. Work and life balance is non-existence. 

3 department managers came and they all left within one year.

Flexible working schedule, snacks every day , nice lunch room , friendly with all teams

I absolutely loved my manager. She helped me develop professional skills I will carry forward throughout my career.

Most of the people at HDR were friendly and supportive of my career goals, even when I decided to switch industries and eventually leave.

Best team orientated work environment. Everyone is kind and help each other to get task completed. Well organized, Respective,  and welcoming by celebrating birthdays and other events. Has more extracurricular activities keep the work/life balance.
