A typical day at work involves making sure you've got all the vehicles you need for the day and managing your available fleet accordingly, selling additional products like vehicle coverage, prepaid gas, and upgraded vehicles.

Hertz taught me invaluable selling, interpersonal, and problem solving skills that I will be able to use for the rest of my life.

Management is alright, due to the corporate structure of Hertz it takes a while a get any changes done around the place as the approval process is rather long and convoluted. The managers on the local level are over worked, and tend to burn out rather quickly but they try to do the best they can with the tools that they are given.

The majority of your co-workers are younger (18-25) and they are a lot of fun to work with. but beware of the drama and politics that comes along with working with people from that demographic. be prepared for management to do absolutely nothing about it.

The hardest part of the job is once in a while Hertz will over-book and leave you with considerably more reservations than cars which can be rather frustrating when you've got 15 people waiting around at your desk with guaranteed reservations and you don't have a single car to give them. There is a bonus structure which is rather hard to attain, however if you've got the skill to pull it off you can make a lot of money.

The hourly wages are pretty decent, and if you've had a particularly good/long week they will do their best to try and make up for it with extra hours on your time card. but you're going to have some very long weeks, you're going to work 100% shift work, and you're going to work a lot of weekends.

Although I gained very good experience, Hertz is a hard place to work. Long hours, usually 55+ a week and extremely understaffed. First couple months are somewhat enjoyable, but as you progress in the company and move upward, management seems to be less and less supportive. 

A typical day at hertz: Clock in about 6:30 am, inventory fleet, run and analyze about 6-10 reports daily. Conference call with area manager from 7:00 to about 7:20 to discuss fleet needs and sales numbers for individual branches. Open at 7:30 am and usually there are about 3-4 customers already waiting. Everyone at the branch is responsible for answering phones within three rings, even if you are with a customer. Most branches have three lines, and they are going off constantly throughout the day. There are various conference calls every day, and sometimes up to three or four. Very busy until it slows down from about 1:00-3:30 during which more reports are ran, customers are contacted, vehicles are cleaned. It gets extremely busy again from about 4:00 to close at 6:00. From 6:00 to about 7:00 cars are cleaned and we set up for the next day. This is five days a week, and saturday most branches are open from 9-12:00.

Hertz is not a bad place to work, especially out of college. One gains a lot of experience, but has to be willing to put in the long hours and work. It is a very high stress industry, but it can also be rewarding. The downfall is that most branches are understaffed due to the environment.

The work was not hard, but communication is an issue. There is no real sense of job security or comfort, and I found working there to be quite a stress provoker. Hertz withholds a very negative work environment with minimal praise, and little support. I did not appreciate the extents my management went to to prove my disloyalty to the company, and the amount I was questioned on my work load. They will always take customer side, and do not stick together in corporate issues, and it makes for a very untrustworthy environment.

The customer service at the desk (Branch EDI - Desk) were amazing, they made each day a little easier. Seeing them was probably the best part of my day.

I learned how to manage my time effectively, provide customers with statement balances, organize accounts, and collections. I learned how to cope with negative situations in the workplace, and

The hardest part of my job was the lack of support I had in the company when I had an issue or problem with either my work or a customer inquiry that I could not assist with. I believe with strong communication business with thrive, and that is definitely a lacking part of the workplace.

A typical day at work would be meeting different people from all over the world and being able to help those people direct them and customize their rentals to best suite their needs for their vacation and family.

On a daily basis i learn new things, from my Customer Service Reps to the customers . Ranging in things from Sales to where people are from and what there about . 

Management changes very frequently so things get disorganized but once the location becomes more stable and consistent with employees, its runs smoothly.

My co-workers are the best part of it all, doesn't matter how hard the day is, we get through it together and help each other out when needed .

The hardest part about my job would be the language barriers between my clientele and myself . I am limited to English, Chinese & a little bit of spanish , BUT that is where either my co-workers or their family members assist and help with the communication level.

Lastly, the most enjoyable part is loving what i am doing and being good at the sales aspect of it , and at the same time i know i am the beginning and the end to a families vacation/business rental so i can ensure they have a great first and last impression .

I worked with Hertz for nearly 2 years. A typical day would involve cleaning and fueling the vehicles, making sure they had all the proper documentation, checking for damage and either parking them in the lot or driving them to the parkade. I personally did not learn anything i didn't already know, as I had previously worked at another rental company. The job wasn't physically challenging as I am active, and wasn't mentally challenging in any way. The workplace culture was mostly respectable aside from the two washbay supervisors that were let go from their positions shortly after my termination. They were rude, hard to talk to and were not concerned about the mental health of the employees they supervised. The hardest part of my job was the busy summer days. Tight schedules and a high number of returning vehicles made for lots of work, though I never found it particularly challenging. The most enjoyable part was making great friends with many of the employees, friends i still see to this day. If you're young and looking for a job, they aren't a bad choice, they've improved since I left.

The job was so slow that they had to keep sending us home because no work. I was fired without any reason even when i specifically asked what i did wrong, the manager just said "you are within your 90 days so i dont have an obligation to tell you, and i dont want to tell you." Even when i repeatedly asked what i did wrong because i never damaged a car or got a ticket or messed up on closing, he just kept saying he has told me what he had to and wouldn't give me and common courtesy and let me know what i was doing wrong so i could be a better employee for the next job. If there is a lot of work, they expect you to stay over time without the pay. Everyone i worked with was looking for a new job and always talked bad about or manager.

This is a great place to work. It can be fast paced. You have the opportunity to meet a lot of interesting people depending on the office you are working at. The staff are great!! Managers too. They can be very accommodating when they can. If you can sell coverage on rentals, you have to opportunity to make a decent bonus. The most enjoyable part of working for Hertz would be working with the friendly outgoing staff. Hardest would be trying to deal with an irate customer due to a bill they are not happy with, or the vehicle is not what the expected. I have however learned how to compromise with customers and try to find a middle ground everyone is happy with, before having to bring a manager into the mix. When doing this you gain customer appreciation and possible regular renters, who want to deal with just you!

There is no fixed set of work. Every day is a new day and one have to start fresh. Very challenging work load with numerous objectives adding up every hour. Had to manage a diverse group of 75+ employees, work with them, motivate them and as a result get the best out of them. Had to make rapid decisions by using sound judgement to distribute and allocate rental fleet throughout the city of Calgary according to market conditions. Making the schedule for employees, doing payroll, hiring and firing according to seasonal demands. 

I have learned a lot from this position and it has definitely made me a stronger professional. Management was very supportive and contributed to my learning process. Co-workers were fun, encouraging and were always there to make it happen. It was a great team environment and a collaborative effort.

I have worked all over Canada with amazing experiences and co-workers but working with Hertz in Burnaby(North) has been a very bad experience.  It's not at all a managemt trainee job. It's a sales Job where you are selling scams. Secondly, the worst bunch of co-workers I have ever worked with. Snobbish and bossy attitudes for no reason at all. Secondly, you are not at all appreciated for the amount of hard work you have put in. Rather there will be 10 fingers pointing at you for a single mistake even when you have only finished a month and half or so. Lot of politics and groupism at work. The worst work culture I've ever experienced. People working in the same positions act as if they own you for being a new joinee for no reason. Its a workplace where people will step on you, to go ahead something that I had never experienced in Canada before.

Day starts with checking daily reservations and making sure that we have enough cars available for the reservations, including some extra fleet for walk-ups and phone call reservations.
Cars must be ready to drive before the scheduled customer arrival.
For better customer service experience we used to schedule customer pick up and drop off services as well.

Gas logs and other clerical work was divided equally to every team member with set due dates 

Checking out and printing receipts for returning customers was also part of our daily jobs.

We also ask about their experience so that we can all improve as a team and individual 

Overall experience was good and breaks were good enough to get through the day.
Team members were fun and management was very supportive

Highly recommend to work there especially for beginners with least customer service and sales experience
