HORIZON ELECTRIC

They don’t really pay their journeymen what I feel they are worth. I’ve seen a lot of guys take on big jobs & they are only getting paid in the high 20$ an hour area. The Okanagan area in general doesn’t pay well for electricians so I can’t just fault Horizon Electric in that regard. Depending on what site you are working on as an apprentice you can learn absolutely nothing at all, doing basic work because the foreman doesn’t want to take a risk that you can mess something up. Or you can get on with a smaller crew where you are given more responsibilities. The crew I’ve worked with have been awesome, really good people & nice work environment. They run a tight ship to get the job done cleanly. If you need a job I would take it until you can find something that pays you what are worth. If money isn’t everything you can easily get on fine with a chill work environment & relaxed pace. Just depends what you want.

Applied in April 2016, majority of work was in residential, mostly new suburban homes and apartment suites. Company is fairly large, around 80+ employees. Learned a lot of useful skills over the 3 years i worked there. For the most part i had no issues with coworkers and people liked me and my work ethic. However the owners nephew who works there as well didnt and i strongly believe he had a part in my "eventual" layoff. I use quotations because the company is somewhat infamous for laying people off that they dont like/want there. Several foremans would tell stories of the awful office politics that occur within the company. Pay was also subpar compared to other cities. As i say in the title of the review, its a good place to get started but i highly recommend moving on somewhere else when you have enough experience for other employers to take notice. Apply with caution.

Horizon Electric, Kelowna BC, is a great place to work. I started as an apprentice and learned so much while I worked and went to school. The journeyman electricians I worked with were fantastic. I was able to excel quickly and given more responsibility. Once I received my ticket, I stayed on with Horizon and continued to share my knowledge with my apprentices. The people are the best! I recommend Horizon Electric.  

I really enjoy working for horizon, they are a great group of people to work for, the management and the workers are great to work for and with. 
I think they are a great company for anyone to start and finish their career with.

Overall, Horizon has good management and lots of great people to work with. Pay is average and the work you get to do depends on how skilled you are and how willing you are to learn. They also have lots of jobs going on so job security is great. 

9/10 would recommend 

Mainly with Horizon i had no issues and i learned an incredible amount in a short period of time, i would gladly work with most of the  crews and the foreman again.

fast paced work but overall good relationship with co-wokers and management could be better and workplace culturre needs work and learn more than the typical apprentice

Good place to work and get lots of experience in different areas. Horizon has a variety of projects from residential houses to giant concrete high rise buildings also everything in between.  


lots of possibilities for tons of experience lots of work to do which easily keeps you busy. day starts at 7 am and goes till 3:30. friendly people to work with.

After a few weeks of watching the foreman treat a few people and me like absolute ... I started looking for another job. Eventually I just walked off the job. I wasn't the first or the last.
