Let's start with pro's:
good - HSBC still has a stellar brand, despite everything. 
good - the bank is huge, and theoretically can provide a rich and wide-ranging career. 
good - there are some good managers, great employees, awesome and interesting clients. 
good - outstanding international and currency capabilities and a host of good (but often not great) products 

technology - this is a consistent theme, but it has to be said. Where technology can lift some banks up, at HSBC it's a consistent tailwind
demotivating management - higher ups endlessly focus on the negative, all about 'what' was achieved - rarely 'why' - and less of a focus on what people actually control and can do something about.... A regional update is always nice, but each person only controls their own results - why not focus on this? A sense of collective punishment is the result, many staff just tune out the calls. 
Poor processes - still uses manilla folders from 1950s because...why not?
Bureaucratic - 5 different departments needed to complete a single operation. This is normal for banks, but HSBC takes it to an extreme.
Low pay - average or below market compensation
ad-hoc approach to designations - highly tenured staff that deal with some of the banks top clients are excused from having even the bare minimum of appropriate qualifications (?) At other firms you 'must' have appropriate designations and a focus on continuing education, at HSBC it's an afterthought.  
Long hours - weak work/life balance. I actually don't mind long hours when the team is working together and everyone's pulling in the same direction and it's not an every-day all year long situation. HSBC walk vs. talk gap is huge here. It is difficult to take the bank seriously on 'mental health at work' awareness when it tolerates such rampant long hours and has no functioning support system for staff. 
Poor attitudes are allowed - there are some outstanding staff (some of the best I've ever worked with) but they are undercut by others who show a poor attitude and are unwilling to help others; there's a culture of impunity for poor conduct, tolerance of non-team players hurts the entire work culture. 
No support - other banks have actual live support teams and something called training programs that provide you with guidance on how to do your job. HSBC suffers high labour turnover rates in part due to not having an appropriate training program on business processes, technology - all the operations required to do one's job. 
- Working at HSBC is a little bit like visiting a museum on banking, you have the experience of going back in time to see how things were done decades ago when things were more inefficient.

HSBC Mobile is safe, gives secure access to HSBC customer accounts from anywhere and it simplifies banking needs. HSBC Mobile Banking Application for iOS, Android and Blackberry is the most user friendly and security guarantee application that can be used by banking customers of HSBC Bank. Using the HSBC Mobile Application, customers can Access their personal or small business banking accounts, check their account balances, pay bills, transfer funds, locate HSBC branches and record insurance information in an accident.

• Involved in the development of Test Scenarios, Test cases, Test data and Test scripts according to Requirements, Wire frames and Use Case documents 
• Test scenarios, Test cases were provided to the business analyst for signoff and approval 
• Classified the test cases based on High, Medium and Low for execution purpose based on the business priorities 
• Written and stored Test scenarios and Test cases in Quality center test plan tab and mapped the Test cases to the requirements using Requirement coverage tab 
• Involved in testing the Integration between personal, business account, bill payment, transfers and statements on different devices like Android, IPhone and Blackberry

I've worked for 4 FI's over the years and can tell you that HSBC is by far the worst.  

Micromanagement is a huge part of branch life, with management preferring to threaten for motivation, rather than to encourage or celebrate even the smallest of wins.  Sometimes, people need encouragement and the only feedback I ever seemed to get from my reporting managers was negative stuff.  The training is minimal and the systems are antiquated.  It got to the point where confidence was shattered and even the slightest error on my part would result in a closed door meeting for reprimand.  I became afraid to do nearly any task, in fear that it would be critiqued in some small way.

Their compliance is far beyond any other bank.  I understand KYC and source of funds questions, but they take it to the next level.  Too far actually.  Clients became upset and would take out frustration on branch staff.  Whenever a client became frustrated with process, procedure, delays or anything else, the management was quick to throw staff under the bus, protecting the HSBC brand by turfing blame to the banker the client dealt with.  Instead of, "I'm sorry Mr. Client.  We'll do the best we can to resolve this matter in a reasonable time and rectify it for you...," they would instead say, "Oh- that's too bad.  Would you be interested in another banker?"  This pushed blame to people like myself, rather than the underwriters, the bank, the processes, the systems, or even themselves.

If you like worrying about job security and you enjoy constant micromanagement, then HSBC is the place for you.

HSBC has been on a significant cost-cutting program for nearly 6 years now. It's the same old year after year cutting FTE around 150 per year and bring people back the following year because they cut too many people.

I was with HSBC for 15 years and finally left because the environment is absolutely disgusting. 

Because of nonstop layoffs in the Vancouver office - everyone is throwing each other under the bus to try and save themselves. On top of that, the situation has become so dire that Management has started communicating to all managers that they need to artificially lower staff ratings to poor performers because they do not have any budget to continue laying off staff. This now creates a false image of staff being poor performers so they can be let go with just cause. This needs to be clearly communicated to all staff to ensure appropriate legal action is taken.

This year specifically management was pushing "Project Oak" which essentially made all staff hunt down individuals to cut. It's become a circus and almost sad as all management is throwing each other under the bus to try and save themselves.

I know of 5 individuals who have launched lawsuits directly with HSBC Bank Canada - and they have now produced lie after lie to try and hide their behavior.

My suggestion is for everyone to stay clear of this mess.

Working in a contact centre can be an unpleasant experience, but HSBC have put in considerable effort to make it as enjoyable as possible. The facilities are top-notch, and with a dedicated team to organise events and such for employees, it can be a fun place to work too.

That being said, there is a strictness to the work ethic, which is expected from a global bank. The training to prepare for the rigors of day-to-day shift work is quite good, and rather lengthy, and the support remains in place after you've been slotted into your team. The management hierarchy is well laid out and this information is made clear and available for all staff. There is a comprehensive intranet which is accessible to everyone so seeking out information on your own is easy as well.

Mature behaviours are encouraged and indeed expected, as well. There is constant change within the way the business is run, as isn't entirely surprising in this field, with new legislation, etc, but a flexible approach is definitely essential for any employee.

The shifts can be long, especially the compressed versions, and it can be difficult finding a shift that fits into your current social life, but HSBC do tend to be fairly amenable with regards to choice.

HSBC Bank requires that I pay close attention to detail as I must be one hundred percent accurate in all my tasks. On some days I must perform internal audits and am tasked with opening non-standard, irregular commercial accounts which may pose reputational risks to the bank. This is one of the harder tasks of my job.

The most enjoyable part is meeting interesting clients with unique business models. Everyone is different and assessing the needs of each and every commercial client is a challenge. It involves assessing risk, and ensuring that all HSBC policy is met which requires coordination with our legal department as well as ensuring that all OFSI (Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada) requirements are also met. However, getting to know new companies and closing big accounts for the bank is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding aspects of my job.

In my three years at the bank I have had to develop excellent organizational skills and I now have demonstrated proficiency in all core office administration functions, including an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, document preparation, internal/external communications, data and records management, meeting scheduling, and task prioritization.

HR department only takes action when it’s convenient for them when it comes to cost cutting, otherwise is completely useless. Mistreatment of employee is a daily fact.
No work culture whatsoever, gossips between employees is in a whole new level.
Micromanagement is brutal and when the situations is  escalated to the manager things will change for a week top.
Customer service is the worst, especially for employees.
Salary is the lowest compared to other financial institutions in similar roles.
Long hours, overtime is hard to get it approved.
Really hard to move up (career progression) as the bank only hires twice a year because of budget. Even if personnel is needed you will have to take the workload of a 2-3 people’s job until they decide when to hire. Forget about being rewarded for this, you get nothing and be aware that your bonus is based on you performance so even if you are great at your job and you never get what you deserve because it will never be great to your manager.
Very disappointing organization to work for and the experience you get could be worth nothing as they have stupid policies and procedures in place that no other bank uses nowadays, pretty much unique obsolete systems and platforms.

HSBC frontline staff are an awesome bunch however management do not have knowledge regarding products/procedures. Targets to be met daily/weekly/monthly. Doing more tasks outwith job to bolster bonus Pay every March (discretionary). Bonus culture breeds blackmail from managers to use this against you ie if you constructively give feedback or speak out this can be used to lower your bonus. Customers are awesome hsbc offer good products to offer/sell. Frontline staff know their job/products well. Department managers ask for feedback however do not know how the job works on the phone. Pay is in align with other contact centres. Shift patterns varied, from early week to late week. Usually required to work at least one day on a weekend every second week at least. Bonus structure is assessed on yourself as a person the tasks you do outwih your role and most importantly the sales you have introduced and provided to a decision stage.

 Proactively promote, sell and deliver a full range of business/personal products and service and screen for appropriate referral or relationship management opportunities (ex: credit management, securities, private banking, trusts, etc.)
 Monitor existing assigned portfolio as per Bank policy. Maintain a call program to service existing clients, identifying customer needs.
