Halton Healthcare is a multi-site community hospital located in the Greater Toronto Area. The Oakville site was newly constructed about 8 years ago, so the facilities are state of the art. The community is growing and there is strong support for the expanding programs delivered by the hospital. The Milton and Georgetown sites are in rapidly growing communities, so the hospitals are expected to grow over the next decade. This is a great place to build your career in healthcare.

What is the best part of working at the company?
They care about their staff. Friendly and supportive environment 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No porter service at night; after hours you bring your own patient to the unit. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Professional, supportive. I like that I get utilized in many departments (L&D, OR, ER)

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Usual 12 hour shifts in the ER

I work with the nursing resource team. The job overall is ok. Staffing will text you usually the day prior with where you will work the next morning or same day where you will work for night shift. If you are an RN in NRT, you are required to work in Oakville, Milton and Georgetown. RPN required only Oakville and Milton. Manage has always been supportive to me in accommodating mental health leaves and absences (although they have to be). Same as other bedside nursing jobs though, feels unsupported at times and can be high stress. Coworkers have always been great.

Managment is constantly changing there is no consistency and there is favortism to staff for overtime and seniority counts for nothing. Lots of turnover and there is no offered education or advancement options. Full time staff are not allowed to drop down to part time. They would rather let senior staff go than allow a decrease to part time and hire agency to fill the gaps. Poorly managed.

Supportive management and coworkers 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Technical Training needed for the position.  Some processes could be streamlined. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very positive environment with supportive coworkers/leadership

Permanent shift schedule. Staff are professional. Nurses are direct but kind. Fast paced but encourage to take breaks. Competitive salary.  Everybody aims to be successful. Patient care is priority. Seminars and online trainings are available and are encourage to participate. Appreciation day for staff. Contests and treats. 

Worked as a patient registration clerk.  Great environment and coworkers & management were both very supportive.  .Lots of opportunity to move between departments etc although because it’s unionized seniority is everything.  Was sad to leave, but may go back someday.  Wouldn’t hesitate to work there again.

Great place to work. I've been here for about 6 months and have loved it. My management team is fantastic they truly want you and the organization to succeed.

Have an amazing team I worked with. Have never had such an understanding boss. Great place to work in. Peers are respectful and very approachable. And a very well diverse team in terms of education back ground and also cultural diversity.

As a part time worker you will gain experience many different parts of the hospital. Most of the time you will follow a schedule and manage your tasks around discharges. Shifts range from mornings, afternoons and overnights. Easy to trade shifts and book time off.
