Halton Regional Police Service

This police service is currently run by a group of sociopaths who couldn’t care less about the core values of policing.  They are solely concerned with self-promotion, and every action they take is in pursuit of their next promotion.  Serving the public is not a priority, and if you stand up for what is right your career will be over.   I wish I had studied a trade in school and had never even heard of the Halton Regional Police Service.

A fantastic eight-week full time paid summer employment focused on community service (Youth in Policing Initiative). Only a few (6 - 8) youth (15 - 17 year olds) are selected in Halton each year but if you are selected you will definitely enjoy the experience.

Great place to work.  Some difference between uniform and civilian positions.  Hard to get in as permanent... I was contract for eight years.  Sometimes a frustrating experience working so hard towards a goal that is never reached.

HRPS is an amazing service and is constantly on the crest of progression. Highly professional sworn and civilian members. Furthermore the halton community is pro-police and is a collaborative effort to maintain community safety and quality of life 

This department does not operate under the standards befitting of a law enforcement outfit. The Internal review portion is especially underwhelming.

Poor work culture that encourages poor behavior and covers for said poor behavior. 

Yes, had a great career with the Halton Regional Police. Respectful, not biased or prejudice in all forms. Some of the leaders during my tenure were not leaders, but learning did occur in not what to do. Great organization. 

Pay - very good
Promotion - prospects vary wildly, plenty of politics involved
Benefits - good
Hours - vary.  You can work office hours or days, nights and weekends.
Satisfaction - depends on you mostly, though your bosses can have an impact.

Good for experience to branch off on to other areas. Pay should be more according to the work the counselors do. Hard to get full time as new employees start off as part time. 

Needs an HR & upper level management retraining or upheaval!
some people are great, the pay is good, but lack of opportunities for civilians isn't good.

HR department is slow and bad at communicating. Most people are nice. Excellent benefits and job security. There is a work from home policy for some roles which is great.
