Typical Day at Work: Mostly worked from home as I was a volunteer designer, but usually I would see my graphic designer supervisor at her office to discuss the illustration and ideas behind the design and listen to her critique my progress and fix up anything that she wants some improvement.
What I Learned: I learned how to take constructive criticism on my work and made improvements to fit the client's needs, learned how to organize my time taking care of the project and had a feel for actual time restraints on getting such projects done.
Co-Workers: I mostly communicated with my supervisor and the graphic designer there but I did interact with the staff and they were are very friendly and sociable.
Hardest Part: Creating the final design of the logo, which took the most time to put out.
Most Enjoyable: Getting to meet new people, interacting with others, letting my creativity shine, working on something that I enjoy immensely.

unsafe working conditions and a management that pays lip service to health and safety but does not practice what they preach.
Summer employees are regularly screamed at and abused right up until someone else is around to see it and then sweetness and light.
Employees who complain about abuse find their contracts are not renewed so every one keeps quiet
workers told to do things in unsafe ways, same issue, do it or else
There is a culture of fear of reprisals against anyone who brings up valid problems or issues so no one does
regularly do things that if a private company did it there would be outrage
very political work environment with constant manipulation and game playing
When a lot of people were complaining to HR they changed the policy to all complaints in writing and then fired the first person to complain in writing, making sure they were the last person willing to complain in writing
If the public knew how their tax dollars were spent they would show up with pitchforks and torches

Show up, open bathrooms, change every garbage and pick the park of it, weed whacking, mowing, pruning

Workplace culture varies on who the boss hires, if they’re high schoolers/teenagers, you’re likely going to be stuck doing all the driving and work. They just don’t work as well as college age/adolescent people.
Hardest part is waking up in the morning, dealing with patrons, or picksticking the beach.
Have fun doing that in steel toes, sweltering sun, heavy clothing and a weight gaining bucket while the people enjoying their day at the beach watch you walk by in pity. If they offer you a cash tip: take it. Only Happened once and i regret not accepting it out of my own pride.

The most enjoyable is keeping things tidy and clean, riding mowing the park, telling the barbecuers next to “no barbecue” signs that they cant barbecue here, and talking to the girls on trail.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working for the HCA has been by far my favourite job to date. The only reason I moved on was the seasonal nature of the work. If you are looking for summer work this is the place to go. You will never be bored!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I didn't find the job stressfull at all.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great safety training, supervisors were fair and human. Teams I worked with were amazing.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Lots of physical work outdoors, starting with garbage and public washrooms. Followed by mowing,pruning, weed whipping and other maintenance tasks

Friendly work environment with friendly, supportive co-workers willing to help you in the learning process and are patient with you. You are able to see all of the conservation areas managed under the Conservation Authority and have a fun, interactive experience. The head office in Ancaster is in a beautiful location that is pleasant to wake up to every morning. The most enjoyable part of the job was getting to work in a non-traditional building with outstanding scenery, combined with the work environment and friendly culture.

As a co-op student, my goal was to gain experience in the design world.  Not having much experience, my co-workers were very helpful and patient with me as I learned.  I was required to use MicroStation which was new to me.  Having some training in AutoCAD, it was easy to pick up.  The management was there for me when I had questions, and trusted me to get my assigned work done on time.  The hardest part of my job was learning the program used.  Once I learned it, it became very easy and enjoyable.  I also enjoyed the company of my co-workers as they made the work environment very stress free for me and other students.

A typical day at work included cleaning bathrooms as well as general cleaning including picking up garbage and changing garbage cans. It is a fast paced environment that requires hard labor some days in very hot weather. The management team was always very encouraging and friendly and appreciated the hard work myself and my coworkers did. The only downfall was being paid minimum wage to do the job of a cleaning person and a landscaper.

I travelled to various site locations in the Greater Hamilton area. Daily responsibilities varied based on site. The team I worked with had a wide knowledge of equipment operations and construction skills.

A nice place to work but found it hard to advance.My co-workers did not pitch in sometimes and had high expectation. I enjoyed working in the out doors on the Heritage buildings. I enjoyed seeing the job complete and hearing the positive feed back from the volunteers.
