I worked here for over a year and was treated TERRIBLY by the cafeteria manager. She was the reason I quit. I adored my co workers and the customers were even better. The disrespect from management makes it not even worth working here. They’re understaffed and some how it gets taken out on you, and the rest of your team. They do not respect your limits, I was on modified duties and I was practically punished for it, asked to do things constantly out of my range while I was on modified. They do not care about their employees, they only care about the jobs being complete. The assistant chef, chef and Manager for the Corner Cafe are AMAZING. I loved my job, my coworkers, my regulars but ultimately the poor managerial style is was drove me out. If you want to feel valued working for the VA at Mac is NOT the place for you.

Terrible organization to work for. Life-work balance? What is that? They are always under staffed, they dont appreciate their staff, and there is a huge disconnect between what they think is going on, vs. What actually happens. Food is over priced, staff underpaid. Most staff members who have been there a long time have a "better than thou" attitude, when in actuality, they do less than everyone else. They cant seem to keep permanent night shift employees for longer than a few years, because it is assumed night staff have it easy and everything and anything is blamed on them. And employees who have been there long are often bitter and have bad attitudes. Management really should step up their game and treat everyone equal instead of dismissing complaints and showing favoritism. I would stay away from working here. 

What an awful place to work.. when your new to the organization the long-term employees don't give you the time of day. Everyone who has been there longer than a year treats you like your options don't matter and everything is your fault. The worst part is management is aware of these issues and do absolutely nothing about it because they are unwilling to fire the horrible people for fear of having to fill in for them. Management cannot preform the duties of their employees and that is a huge problem! There's a clear divide between the day-time mon-fri staff and the night-time casual staff. Everyone should be treated equal... I don't see it ever changing or getting better.. this is not a healthy work environment.. do not work here

Worked in the parking division  of the HHSVA. EnJoyed my time and work while employed. Management and H/R lack a tremendous amount of integrity attention to detail and the ability to step up and take care of issues brought to them by staff. Their work mantra that they push for staff yet do not follow themselves is disappointing and concerning. The only true concern they care about is bringing money in to donate back to the hospital. Staff constantly complained about H/R and management in all three departments I encountered which were parking gift shops and cafeterias. Great place to get a pay check not much more. 

I was always scheduled for the weekend shifts and I had to always come in almost everyday. It was tiring and I was exhausted all the time. We were always short staffed and the hours was dreadful. They also expect you to do other jobs that you’re not supposed to or you’re not trained for. There were also other employees that doesn’t work the weekend shifts so they will put the new part time employees to do weekend shifts. Also they will expect you to work in their other stores at other hospital sites when they are short staffed. Though if you desperately needed a job this is slightly better than Mcdonald’s or Wendy’s.

The job itself is very easy and compared to similar jobs they pay very well. You could not live on this salary alone with the current cost of living in Hamilton. 

The people are always very nice and I enjoyed working here but sometimes management can be a bit disorganized. They also don't provide adequate training and you will have to learn as you go but all of the staff are very friendly and open to answering any questions you have about anything.

The customers here are on average a lot nicer than any other job I've had in good service/retail.

Being employed at Juravinski as a Food Service Associate made me miss being an underpaid and overworked dishwasher. 

At least while dishwashing, my hard work was recognized, I always got some free food & drink, and I didn't dread going into an unhealthy workplace every single shift with management there. 

I'm glad to have quit, not wasting a single second more of my life there.

They don’t train new employees properly. Had to learn everything on my own. Management and kitchen staff acted unprofessionally. The chef is a man-child, and disrespects customers and staff at times. 11-7 shift means no life outside of work.. worst shift ever! Plus, you have no one to relieve you for breaks, so it’s all you pretty much doing the entire work load.. sometimes if not finished everything within the time frame, overtime occurs. Good luck

Management is horrible and will bully you and make you feel like you aren’t worthy enough to work for them, constantly talking about certain staff to other staff members . Management plays favourites and let certain people get away with what other people are fired for. Very hostile work environment. HR is so far up there a**es they don’t see anything wrong with all the complaints they recieve about management. 

Some of the worst managers i've ever encountered. Not unusual to see staff members crying after dealing with a manager. The pay stinks and the customer you deal with are generally very rude and speak very nasty at you.
