Expect to stay in the position you are hired for. The management would rather hire new than give committed employees the opportunity to advance to different positions.

If your goal is to become a lead, just apply for that right out of college. You are more likely to get it over someone who has been working their way up through positions. 

Leads only care about how directors view the centre. They will ignore your struggles and cries for support in moments when you are desperate. They will blame your skill and ability for situations where behaviors become dangerous to both yourself and the other students in the room. They do not come from a place of understanding or support, more judgment and criticism. Once you have been made to feel incompetent, they will sign you up for workshops during your personal hours and state they are mandatory for you. 

I'm not sure what you would consider work/life balance. But hwcccc dosent offer any insensitive to put your home life first. If you value dropping off or picking your child up on their first day of school. That is not possible here. There is a policy in place to prevent it, You are to prioritize your centre over your own children. When your children are sick, you are expected to find someone else to care for your sick child, as you are needed on site. If you do take time, you will feel a shift in moral when you return. 

Mandatory staff meetings held after hours, a positive is  they do pay you for the time. During these meetings I witnessed coworkers centred out and made an example of, who left crying. 

The ped and opt lead make decisions about the programs and environment, without consulting the classroom educators to keep up the show for the directors instead of training and assisting the educators to get there themselves. 

You can be sent to any of the sites within the organization at any time, temporarily to help out, or even permanently without consideration. I have witnessed educators with extreme anxiety, specifically triggered by environmental changes approach the leads. When they express themselves as to why this is detrimental to their personal well-being, they were told its in their contract and they must follow policies. First hand have seen this happen amd educator throwing up from stress as they collected theor belongings. 

There is a lot of efforts to assist and understand the needs and emotions of the children, but zero compassion towards the workers. 

This is a great job for someone with no family and who has the time to utilize the impressive continued learning the company offers. If you have a family of your own, shoot your shot at a leadership role. They have no issues leaving when they need. 

HWCCCC has been one of the most supportive organizations I have worked for. From the beginning, I felt valued as an educator and encouraged to continue growing both personally and professionally.

The company offers competitive pay, great vacation and sick day benefits, and meaningful professional learning opportunities that are paid for and encouraged. What stands out most is the support from the director team and the investment in leadership development. The addition of the Pedagogical Lead, Operational Lead, and Operational Lead Designate roles has created strong leadership teams within each centre, ensuring educators have guidance, mentorship, and opportunities to advance in their careers.

I also appreciate the organization's philosophy around learning. Educators are encouraged to be co-learners alongside children and colleagues, creating a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and continuous growth. It is refreshing to work for a company that truly values its staff and recognizes the important role educators play in children's lives.

Overall, HWCCCC is a great place to build a career in early learning and child care, and I would recommend it to educators looking for a supportive and growth-focused workplace.


Ped leads and op leads are unlikely to provide orientation an welcome  training - no one provides training to show how program runs, admin requires/ expectations, just an overwhelming welcome package via email.. Will expect staff on site to train, op leads/ supervisors do not take time to do so for new hires. Providing  excessive peadalogical training within the first few months of the positon- that is great for additional learning but not a necessity. Allowing minimal time for programming, and admin- or for training of actual responsibilities of role. Sometimes unpaid- but the snacks are good. High expectation for driving. Lack of support from management. Staff will be called outside working hours in regards to operational leads staffing problems-  and required to adapt regardless of transport needs. No auditing of files will be done by supervisors with all expectations landing on Program leads. Pay is unfair, and they will not use your pass experience to place you at an equitable position on their salary grid. Starting eces with years of service at $19- in supervisor positions. There is favouritism of staff, and a high turn over rate. Staff can be left alone on site , and forgotten about by op leads when staff are away.

Have worked for this company for several years now, and have seen a continuous turn over of good RECE's because of poor upper management. Never enough staff, shuffled around the city a lot.

For a Not for Profit centre that always claims "we don't have the funding" management spends a lot of "funding" on themselves. 

Instead of putting Children and Staff first, management would rather take trips all over the world and preface it with we are learning how other daycares run there centres.  

Weekly "crisis's" because of the continued poor management, who than blame the supervisors and staff for their issues. No clear lines of communication between staff and upper management.  The company  seems to feel that all staff are replaceable, so if you don't like what we are doing there's the door.

Best part of the job I that I get to work with some fantastic children and parents which I was trained for.

HWCCC is one of the truly great places I have worked as an ECE.  After leaving another great company to come work here, I have had nothing but amazing things to say.  The management team is excellent and supportive to any ECE who takes the job seriously.  There is tons of opportunity for growth and plenty of opportunities to gain professional development alongside both staff and the management team.  The work culture is serious but laid back, with many excellent employees working in the organization in all positions.  If you are an ECE who takes the job seriously there is no question you will find this place excellent to work for and you will enjoy the many benefits this wonderful company will offer you.  

This is a company that takes the role of Early Childhood Education very seriously and helps make sure it provides the means for its Educators to stay current in the best practices of the field.  If you are an ECE who is willing to learn and wants to work for a company that takes great pride in both the field and the Educators it has working for them, than this is the place for you.

Working for this organization gave me PTSD.
I loved the kids and most people I worked with.
But management has such high strandards it’s ridiculous.
I felt I was “walking on egg shells” all the time- even when I was working my hardest.
If your not on managements good side - ur sinking ship estenially.

It’s not what you know but who you know in this organization 

They don’t care about employees at all- yes pay is nice- but honestly the stress is not.

I end up having 2anxiety attacks at work (away from kids off course) because of the stress.

Management is like “we’re here to help! Here to help you grow and learn!” Yet all they do is training all day long or office stuff it’s ridiculous.

I worked before and after school care. One day I worked my morning shift. Went home for the day - then got a call from my supervisor stating that they were going to pay me my vacation time and that I should not bother coming back in. My stuff was all packed up in the office when I got there later that night- and when asked why - they basically couldn’t even give me a reason. “There’s better opportunities for you!”

All I have to say is STAY CLEAR

In house training allowed me to gain experience while adding to my own knowledge and skills in Early Childhood Education. I gained new perspectives to broaden my vision and acquired developing skills to continue my professional learning goals.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some of the challenges working for this company might be:
• maintaining administrative expectations 
• providing enough materials for inquiry
• consistency throughout the company 

When I found any difficulties ~ I simply reached out to my leadership team and always received support.

I worked here for a year and half. During the epidemic, the management showed a lot of cares to us. Our leads are always encourage us to do professional learning and really to be a listener when we meet difficulties. Also, the organization respect everyone's culture and background. There is no discrimination and judgement on people who is holding a work visa or come from diverse background. The wage is competitive too! If you work hard, be eager to learn, be very excited about all the emergent curriculum,  love to have a work/life balance job, and love children, you deserve to come here! Here is really not a place for people who just want to find a place to stay and doesnt believe anything about what we are doing...

I feel very fortunate to work for a company where the support and encouragement towards their staff is so high. My team has been amazing. We work together, encourage each other and provide assistance as necessary. Our leads have been open and available when we need them. They are always willing to meet with, and guide, us when needed. I have even watched as directors dropped everything to be onsite to support our centre when we needed it most. The opportunities for CPL are endless and our pedagogical lead is known for finding suitable opportunities on topics we are looking to further our knowledge in. Pay, benefits, sick and vacation time are very competitive for our field.

I have been working as an educator in the field for 10 years. I just recently started at Hamilton Wentworth Catholic Child Care Centre’s and I can’t say enough good things about this organization. The directors team are so supportive and welcoming. They are great at offering feedback and answering any questions I have. There are many opportunities to grow in this organization whether it be your position or one of the many Professional Learning Opportunities that they offer for their educators. Overall if you want to work at a place that understands your value and how important you are to providing quality childcare then this is the place to be!
