Hammond Manufacturing

As an old school worker who believes in a fair days work for a fair days pay, it saddens me to go into Hammond daily and watch people steal pay cheques. Hammond Manufacturing is a family owned business who unlike other employers, actually treat their employees like family, it’s not just lip service! It would be very difficult to find an employer who compensates their employees with excellent pay and benefits as this one does. The work is mainly unskilled and by no means difficult or straining yet Hammond chooses to pay rates over and above to get a product to the customer. It’s my opinion that the problem lies in middle and upper management, upper management don’t seem to be able to manage while the supervisors just stroll about totally oblivious to what’s going on under their nose. I have watched some employees spend a ten hour shift doing nothing and I mean nothing or spending an overtime shift on their phones playing games or texting buddies if there is no supervision while the company pays them almost 40 bucks an hour.
In short, working at Hammond could be a great, well rewarding experience for anyone with a solid work ethic and willing to contribute. If something isn’t done to weed out the loafers (and there are many) I can see this good company going to the wall and in a hurry.


I found that Hammond Mfg. was a extremely busy cabinetry place to  work as a Receptionist. There were about 100 lines as well as Watts lines coming to the Receptionist all day long. The receptionist was also required to help out other departments with small jobs that could be done while she still answered the busy switchboard and directed clients to the proper departments they required. or paged personnel to the front reception area to meet with clients. I also found the Merchandising department was extremely busy place , because the personnel were expected to type reports for the Salesmen as well as substitute for the in house mail clerk and deliver mail to all the in house offices as well as go across town to deliver mail to two other Hammond Manufacturing buildings in every type of weather. The hardest part of the job I would say was keeping up with the Multi-line switchboard and postal items that required stamps, before being sent to out-going .

Even though they say that they pay more than the competitors the fact still remains that they lose many good and loyal employees simply due to the fact that one cannot live on these wages. The atmosphere was great, the people, everything. I was able to advance and was provided with more responsibility. I along with many other employees would still be there if they would just pay a living wage. Instead of paying a little more to the good employees who have been there for years and know their job, they tend to bring in temps who don't stay, who have to be constantly trained and who don't do as good a job. All this to save a few bucks. Pay the ones you have properly. Happy and healthy employees produce more and are willing to go the extra mile. 

I worked there for over six years and have done most of the jobs in their plant. the people are decent the in house union is not good, the reps care only for themselves and pretend to help you. management is run by people with no real clue that really do whatever they want on a whim. H.R. runs most of it which is funny since they all are new because the real ones left since the plant management was intruding on personal records and they had to quite or be liable if someone blew the whistle. the owner himself is a nice guy but lost control of his company really don't believe anything anyone tells you if you do work there. also they don't give references, Worked there for so long gave my two weeks notice and I had to still explain to the place I work now that they don't give a good reference to stop people from leaving....

Skill and experience do not matter in terms of advancement. You could be on a job 3 years and if someone transfers to your department who has worked at Hammond longer and therefore has more seniority- they become your backup lead hand based on seniority alone despite only being on that particular job for months and having no clue how to actually do their job.  And then if the lead hand position opens up they are considered over you because they have experience being the back up lead hand. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

Good place to work. High job security and excellent pay especially for jobs that are non skilled. I recommend working here. Job postings are always on the board and all are welcome to apply after you've been at your job for at least 6 months. Day shift- Monday to Friday 7:30am-4pm
Summer hours on days: Monday-Thursday 6:45am-4pm, Friday 6:45am-11:45am
Afternoons all year: Monday-Thursday 4:20pm-2:20am

Hammond mfg is a great place to work salary wise and benefit wise. 
The internal union you pay off every paycheque towards for no reason. They’re only there to save people who don’t deserve it or to help themselves when most convenient. They make up rules as they go as they see fit. 
The supervisors are lazy and so worried about being your buddy that they let rules slide for some and not for others. 
It’s really too bad because hammonds is a great place to work. It’s just lazy no care employees and supervisors that make it unbearable for those of us with actual work ethic and care for the product we touch.

Pay is good and so are benefits, but the management and work ethic of the people there is disgusting! They look down on hard work and tend to lay off employees who actively try and help others in the company, I was there for 3 years and got in trouble and written up everytime I tried bringing up health and safety issues, and they will blame the hard workers for any and all issues while letting the employees who just steal time or take advantage of the company get away with murder! Overall if you want decent pay and to be treated like absolute S*it this is the place for you!

Normally I would operate a chop saw for 4 hours and then either assist with shipping/picking or line work.  In 9 years I learned pretty much every basic thing there is to know about manufacturing between safety, quality, efficiency, morale, shipping, receiving, computer work, forklift driving.  Management was great, small team, much like a family.  The hardest part of the job was literally the moving of the metal but that's about it.  I stayed for 9 years, I enjoyed almost everything about my job, it was very difficult to leave, I would recommend any job seeker to give Hammond Mfg a shot.

The people that work there are very good to work with.  The owner is friendly and very family oriented.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I was in maintenance so, I was required to fix any machine breakdowns.  That can be stressful.

Slow paced. People get along well with each other and management.
