I received the opportunity to work at HPS while I was on summer break in my second year of college. I could not be more glad that I took this opportunity. 

I learned the various responsibilities that are expected of a junior buyer such as placing and maintaining purchase orders, and expediting where need be. It was actual on the job experience which was much more beneficial than classroom learning alone. I learned the importance of deadlines in a manufacturing environment. 

Management and co-workers were easy to get along with and always glad to help me if I had a question. I learned a lot from everyone here. I also learned about various other roles in a manufacturing setting, and how Purchasing interacts with these other individuals. 

Overall, it was a very good experience, and I would not be where I am now without this opportunity.

It's an entry level factory job with on site training. You can wind, braze, mold, pack, and lots more. There is so much to learn. I've been here for years and am still learning, and this is great in many ways. Management is involved and communicates with everyone regularly. It is an inclusive environment and its values are upheld daily, but they're always open to suggestions for improvement, it's even encouraged. I've never had more friendly, welcoming superiors. I genuinely feel like I contribute to something at this job.
I know this sounds like it was written by a bot, but I swear I'm human. I truly believe this is a great place to work and wanted to share that. (so long as you don't mind a little hard work)

Department manager was not knowledgeable and not up to date on current practices. There was a lot of favouritism and preferential treatment within the department.
Often working 12 hour days and altering schedule to support business. Direct manager did not show any appreciation, lacked managerial skills.  When told I was required to work extra hours by my direct manager, there was no compensation, time in lieu of or thank yous.
Worked in other departments that were better managed and valued their teams and had a better work environment and more collaborative approach as well as under other managers who fostered this.

The Good:
- pension and benefits
- CEO and operations leadership
- cross departmental collaboration

Poor representation from the employee's association, amiable managers were under too much pressure to discipline, the not-so amiable managers were too eager to discipline unfairly and for little or invalid reasons.  It's not a good place to work for "non-favorites".  HPS reported quarterly profits every quarter for the entire 8 years of my employment with them, yet they still felt the need to outsource production to their plants in Mexico and India.

Not a bad place to work. Fellow co-workers On both shifts can be nice but a lot of them are stuck-up, snobby, rude. HR person is useless, very rude and snotty. Supervisor on days is very moody and can be very rude. Supervisor on afts is great but does need to be out on floor more. Do like the little perks, bonus’,  games a chance to win different products. hate all the overtime which is every other weekend but makes nice pay check and no overtime during summer

If you need a paycheck, go ahead. If you want a life, HPS management cares little for that. Constant mandatory overtime leaves no room for personal issues. Management only cares about production and deadlines. Personal emergency? Too bad. Those are not allowed. However there is more than enough favoritism and bias to go around. Someone’s harassing you in any way? Don’t worry, management will ignore it and allow it to continue. I’ll never darken their doorstep again. Unless you’re desperate, I suggest you don’t either.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Knowing that you are closely watched and criticized by management and most team leads

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Some area's are good for working as a team!  They are good for giving back to the community 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful and uncomfortable most days,  other days aren't as bad

Decent company to work for but with some issues. They tend to promote based not on merit. Which is a problem. They have been a major player in their industry for a long time and they are continuing to expand. Many of the decisions made by the C suite in recent years are far from sound and they seem to have lost interest in their core industry ( pun intended). Lack of consistency with systems was a major issues. Lot's of overtime was expected for the key people while others did the minimum and were treated samely. 

Made transformers and loaded trucks in shipping and receiving. Learned to pay attention to detail and follow spec sheets to ensure proper parts and wire were installed in each transformer. Excellent management made everyone feel important and rewarded for their hard work. Working under tight deadlines was the hardest part of the job while the most enjoyable aspect was working with patient and friendly superiors.

Family run company with really poor senior management who are archaic in not only their management style but also in their values. Control is the name of the game. Senior management team are nicknamed HPS mafia as they don't engage any of the employees in operational or strategic activities.
