This company is independently owned -which is very rare in this day and age.

In my opinion, the owner has built and surrounded himself with a great management team and supporting staff. This company has more than a handful of staff  that have worked by his side for DECADES!!!

Every time that I have visited the main office, the General manager has always made a point to stop what she is doing and come to say hello and ask me how I am doing with a sincerity that can not be faked. 

They have made it abundantly clear that if I am ever unhappy and/or need to talk. The door is always open. They ( owner and management) have on every occasion, taking time out of their busy day to email me, personally thanking me if a client sent them a positive review.

My office is no different, my direct manager is never too busy to help me. Any problem or issue I have is met with her undivided attention! She recently sat down  to chart an annual game plan for me to achieve whatever additional training and educational courses I would like to accomplish. As well, asking if the company can provide me with any tools that will help me succeed and be better at my job.

I feel this company encourages and embraces our personalities, knowing that if we flourish as individuals, so will the company! I have seen first hand, if a procedure, program or a person threatens this culture. Ownership and management will quickly ERADICATE it for the betterment of  the  company and the staff within.

So, going forward with that! I give this company a 5 star rating!

I have been working for Harbord for two and a half years, I was hired with only some insurance experience and to speak to some of the growth opportunities Harbord has trained me and given me a book of business, they have given me the opportunity to take my CAIB designations, they have supplied me with many training seminars, and offer office related training and support courses. If I mention there is something I want to learn, Harbord has always been accommodating and helped me reach my goals. 

Speaking to environment, I have worked in all three of the office locations although I mainly work from Sidney I have had pleasant and professional experiences with staff, and management in all locations. My particular office is very fun to work at and we all work together as a team. When there are special occasions the management doesn't hesitate to supply all the offices with well earned lunches or treats. As for gain-sharing, it's earned based on how good the company and individual employee is doing.

Christmas parties are always a good time, staff dinners are always fun and well appreciated, and the occasional lunch treat or snacks sent by management makes for a nice atmosphere. 

Benefits for full-time staff are pretty decent, although they don't offer much for vision which is my only complaint!

Best part of the job is the opportunities for growth and the great bunch of people I work with.

Toughest part of the job, the ever changing markets and rules keep you on your feet!

What is the best part of working at the company?
I have been with Harbord for over three years; I have no desire to work elsewhere.  Expectations are high - so is the return. I could drop catchy phrases like "work life balance" etc, but for me, I know that the loyalty I show is returned. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The current environment in the insurance industry is a challenging one - the stresses felt at Harbord are stresses that would be felt at any brokerage.  At Harbord I wear a few more hats than I may at other brokerages, but I am okay with that. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Staff moral is pretty good - the insurance world is a challenging world to work in at the current time.  If help is needed, it is there - you just have to be proactive for your own learning and ask. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy, the days do not lag at all.

Promised gain share and never received it.  Tiny company no future or job security and stability.  They should sell to a bigger brokers so employees can have proper managers that actually ensure positive work environments, and that salary bonuses and promises made when hired actually occur.  Also if an issue comes up there is resolution in larger companies as they adhere to a corporate structure.  At Harbord they just say thanks and do not care or fix issues

In the 6 years I have worked in the insurance industry Harbord insurance was by far the best insurance company I have worked for, A fast paced environment with lots of opportunity to grow in the industry I would recommend Harbord to anyone in the Victoria/Sidney area looking for a change if scenery or to Start a Career in the industry.

Employees are promised gain sharing and never paid it.  If you question management they just fire you.  Current management is very high school mentality, not a profession work environment.  No growth opportunities and your lied to about that in interview.  Most unethical business I’ve ever worked at on my 30 years insurance career

Amazing management always helping you improve and progress. Very supportive staff and colleagues in every day work activities and the company provides  great involvement in the community for its employees.

I'd highly recommend Harbord Insurance to anyone in the insurance industry. Their commitment to their customers and to their staff is beyond compare. Ongoing education is encouraged and paid for. Staff is friendly and supportive. Toxic staff members are not tolerated for long.

Co-workers were very friendly, helpful, welcoming and inclusive. Overall a great learning experience and work environment. Would recommend to friends in search of job.

One of the best Insurance companies to work for. Supportive, competitive in their wages. They are flexible in work schedules, endless possibilities for growth. Bonuses available.
