The culture changes from store to store, No consistent company culture, Executive management like to micro manage even the staff, Store managers are not good at confrontation and expect issues to be resolved by themselves or dump them back on the staff to sort them out among themselves, Store managers dont want to make decision,Always pressuring staff and making their life difficult, using old metrics to measure success like qs, Many false management promises and you only become important when you had enough and resign then they are willing to listen and to make it better but its too late, As a manger it does not count how hard you work and how loyal you are and how much you take care of the store the only thing that matters is how much do you sell, You are subjected to store manager personal dislikes although its not against company policy but he does not like so he hides behind its internal policy. You have to pay your dues culture before you are considered for a promotion. Exceptions are made to pay your dues culture if you a good relation with executive management, One employee would get you have to be here for 5 years before you are taken into management and then another employee will promoted to management role in a year or two and they are totally not qualified, favoritism exists in simple things like scheduling based on personal relation with store manager,If you get sick they will never believe you and always harassed that you were out the night before partying or really not sick,If you voice your opinion and it happens to be in contradiction with executive management then you will be shunned and black labeled, Management check staff social media pages and the content may be used against you, If you resort to human resources to solve your issues or complain confidentially human resources will inform your store manager and its not hard for him to figure out who reported the issue, Human resources famous response when you complain about management is May be this is not the right environment for you, Very fond of doing things the old way and do not want to update their methods, Got in trouble so many times for dressing in latest fashion trends and told to tone it down since it is not a back or grey suit, Store manager once conducted a manager seasonal review while cleaning a display table in five minutes, Managers are paid low basic salary to cover min wage only and they have to compete with staff to sell so they can make a living Manager base is mid twenties K per year, Once you become a manager then your are stuck in your career till a general sales manager position opens up which could be between five to ten years, Your base salary increase depends on the store achieving annual budget and almost the stores never do as budgets are unrealistic, You are only as good as how much you sell and nothing else matters, Management will fight you and break you down if you are a progressive thinker, Love to break down the staff so they have control over them and make them feel worthless, Management will act that they are genuinely interested in whats happening with you but its just an act, So much lip service and they never walk the Talk, Management will make your life miserable for a simple thing as you forgetting to say good morning to them, Their approach to motivating a salesperson is rubbing another salesperson success in a good sale in your face, They have a talent for putting staff who are not competent and without talent in junior management positions, If you are a fashion savvy and very knowledgeable about fashion then they will never appreciate that or recognize your potential to tap into it and benefit the company, Worked there for over 5 years and was a manager but they always made me feel i am not good enough to seek opportunity in another organization, When you are being recruited they will everything sound so good and tell you you could make over one hundered thousand as a sales person if you work hard and the truth that never really happens, The sales team are always to be blamed if season sales where low and budgets not achieved and its never the mistake of buying team for buying wrong brands or wrong items, Display teams think they are better then sales team and forget the reality that they are a support function to sales, Display teams think they know how to make windows and displays for high end luxury good when they have never even walked into a designer boutique to see how is their line merchandised and displayed, As a manager your are expected to work long and extra hours for inventory and other with no compensation or overtime, As a manager you are expected to manage your staff and resolve and over see store and clients issues and on top of that you have to sell so you can a decent living since base salary is basically covering min wage

The company prides itself on "family like" culture but that's not what i have experienced. I came on board during some big management shift and so my training were somewhat lacking. My training schedule kept changing based on what the managers had to accomplish that day. And since the managers have to sell on top of their managerial duties, it makes it very difficult for them to train the new guys properly. 
As the newest person, you are expected to do a lot of self learning and training at your spare time which means 2 things:
1. If you do it after work, you do it on the expense of your own free time - No work / life balance. 
2. If you do it during work hours, you loose potential walk in clients  - which are your bread and butter when you're new b/c you don't have an established clientele yet and you are limited in what you can sell since without your clothesmenship (that's how they call you having the certification that allows you to sell tailored clothing). and walk ins are for anyone to grab - even the people who have been there for decades and have a very well established clientele.  
This makes the whole situation unfair since you are measured on your performance by how much you sell.

Some more experienced associates were amazing and were more than happy to give advice and help with a sell. others would take your sell while "helping you", won't explain why they did what they did while helping a customer (you suppose to shadow them and learn from it), and if you find yourself confronting them about it, you are told your "attitude isn't working with harry rosen company culture and therefore the're letting you go". 

When i was hired, i was told that i shouldn't look at numbers since it's a very steep learning curve and it'll take time to master it. 
3 months later, if your numbers are not on track with them, you are also let go - totally contradicts their previous statement.

In HR, an ongoing issue is the establishment of a complaint-driven culture, where some clothing advisors, aiming to boost their own sales, repeatedly report their colleagues to the manager. This behavior fosters a toxic atmosphere and erodes trust within the team. Additionally, managers consistently come to speak with those who are complained about by their own colleagues, often over trivial matters or out of jealousy, which could leave you feeling anxious all the time.  

There is also a form of unfair treatment in the inconsistent enforcement of workplace rules, such as allowing some advisors to wear sneakers while others are not permitted to do so. This inconsistency leaves employees feeling disregarded and frustrated, which ultimately affects their overall engagement.

Working schedules are often changed without prior discussion, creating confusion and frustration among employees. New advisors receive some support; however, when they start selling more than their colleagues, jealousy can develop among the team, leading to further tension and division. These dynamics can discourage open communication and create an environment where employees feel pitted against one another. These issues highlight significant challenges within the workplace, ultimately impacting employee morale and job satisfaction. Addressing these concerns is essential for fostering a healthier work environment.


It is a great start for an individual with limited to no retail experience. It is a good place when you're shifting from food service to retail.  The job requires a lot of standing, cleaning, resolving customer issues, and processing transactions. It is a classic admin job except the sales associates treat and address you as cashiers. There are menial tasks to keep you busy during the quiet times of the day or year. The management style is still archaic, where managers place a lot of value in hierarchy and favouritism, and they leave no room for new ideas. They do not like to implement new procedures. Most of the managers do not follow their own rules but expect lower employees and junior managers to act accordingly. Being a CSR is hard because every associate thinks you're on their payroll, managers impose their authority especially when it is in their favour, and you will be held accountable for every mistake, even if it is not yours. Instead of ancillary, CSR's are treated as entry level employees where management places a lot of authority on them yet salespeople treat them as people who press buttons for them. CSR's cannot advance in the same way sales associates could. CSR's are not valued, if at all, in the same way as sales associates. CSR's grow in many ways in Harry Rosen, and eventually out of it.

A highly toxic environment. Nobody is treated like an equal. Depending on your role, you are either looked down upon or treated with high regard. Every role (including management) is expected to cater to the sales team; which includes but not only limited to finding them things, getting water and cleaning up after them. There is no opportunities for promotion. If you are seeking advancements, their only options are for you to apply to open positions (these positions are open typically because somebody has quit). Regardless of role you will often be compared to eachother, or often told/reminded that you are inadequate because of their views on how to rank people (class, education, and job title etc.).

As for the role of Visual Support, it has little to nothing to actually do with visual merchandising; majority of your time will be spent doing stock, catering to others and cleaning up after the store. This role is heavily looked down upon (even by the rest of the visual department) and you are expected to be a maid and do it with a smile. And most importantly with this role expect to be micromanaged. 

If you value your mental health and physical health look elsewhere! If you absolutely need something temporary it's okay, but don't expect much.

There are zero opportunities internally to grow. There are also no benefits if you are anything but full time. Additionally, individuals that are paid a wage are guaranteed a maximum of a 2% raise every year. Mind you, most positions are paid minimum wage or close to minimun, so the 2% increase does not even offset the annual raise in minimum wages in BC, making it so that the employee will essentially remain on a minimum wage salary for many years. To note, they even removed the 2% increase in 2020 due to the "pandemic" while still touting how successful their eCommerce department is. Goes to show what sort of company Harry Rosen it.

There is a low skill cap. Individuals (sales and managers) in the company will act in ways to benefit themselves and their bottom line with no regards to other individuals wellbeing. You will be treated like a tool or pawn by anyone and everyone in this company. Do not work here, the 50% off discount is not worth it. 

Depending on the location management can be really great at their job or really terrible and not care about the associates. The pay for part time CSRs is awful considering how much work we really do. I have also had bad experiences with my direct manager just not knowing how to handle her own responsibilities or how to be a team leader. You would think an adult knows how to solve problems without acting like a petty child, but nope, not at Harry Rosen. The sales associates also ONLY work on commission, no hourly involved. The only good thing about this company is that if you would like to move up to the office and you have the right qualifications it is possible as most central office jobs are posted internally. Other than that, there are better high end retailers who treat and compensate their associates a lot better than Harry Rosen does.

Floor staff are fantastic and all get along great but management is very greedy and the company doesn't care about the employees only the numbers they can sell. Expect to be paid minimum wage with multiple year gaps for promotions / raises or to be held as a part timer when working full time hours so you get no benefits or paid sick days. You will also be required to do multiple other people's jobs as understaffing is a serious problem. Saw this happen to multiple staff. Also expected to work overtime with no pay on extremely busy holidays. Will also be shamed for taking your full 30 minute unpaid break because there isn't enough staff and they need help on the floor. There is also a lot of corruption and double standards when it comes to managers or those from head office to bend rules to their favor.

Super stressful work environment for CSR staff, contantly being talked down by managers and sales associates alike.
You are blamed for everyone else's mistake and micro managed. Paid minimum wage and expected to deliver above and beyond what you are getting paid to do. No wonder why there is the highest turn over in the company for CSRs, they drop like dominos! Every store is consistantly understaffed or short at the desk because they dont treat CSRs like humans. Some advice to Head Office, pay some attention and look into why there is such a high turnover rate in CSRs. Management and Associates need to learn to do their own work and not dump it on the Admin.

Company does not have proper training for any leadership role. I got two weeks of training and then duties were imposed on my shoulder. Worst management to work with. Whoever working there for over 20 years in management, always cover each others. Favouritism is on high level that non qualified employee got management opportunity. If you are hard working person , they won’t appreciate you or your work ; but if you will become their puppet they will like you.

Salaries are way lower then other retailers. Higher management do have their favourite people list , if you can not make good work relations with those people , You will be transferred or terminate.
