Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board

Responsible for opening and closing of building. Cleaning all areas of building. Dealing with public daily. Set up and take down of meeting space. Setting schedules and organizing cleaning  schedules. Ordering supplies and training of new employees into building.  Fire Drills and inspection of  extinguishers was part of my duties. I also check heating and cooling systems in building along with minor preventative maintenance of building. 
Responsible for yard and walkways. Hardest part of the job was summer clean up as all furniture in every classroom was moved out and all floors were stripped and furniture was put back in classroom. It was very rewarding to see the final product of all the cleaning and watching staff enjoy the cleanliness of the building.

If you want job security as a support staff look elsewhere! I work in between 3 school to make up my 35 hours/week. Some staff at schools are lovely, others treat you like garbage. I was told to wait until August to see if I will have a job in September. Okay??? 
Human Resources in an absolute joke in my opinion and I think they should take a look at refilling some of those positions. Not helpful at all.
However, working with students is the most rewarding part of this job and that's what I love. If only they would hire people even part time.

It is a great place to work and you get a lot of excellent teaching exposure. During my work with Hastings and Prince Edward School Board as a Supply Teacher, I have acquired the experience and responsibilities of ensuring the safety of students and providing guidance.  I have to give instruction to ensure daily lesson plans are carried out to meet the required board expectations.  I maintain excellent communication with other teachers and staff members to ensure proper supervision of students.

The job as a Custodian, and then Lead Hand Custodian, was a lot of fun and very rewarding at all the Schools I worked at.
Custodians are Support Staff, and thus a very integral part of running a School, and I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with Students, Parents, and School Administration. However, this is not being recognized nor valued by HPDSB Senior Management, who treat Support Staff like an afterthought.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The guidance of how to properly apply for days off and what to expect to do after going to a couple of doctors appointments was what lead to my dismissal.  A better education in that area and I would have still been there.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The non guidance for new employees, no navigator to help point you in the right direction.

It's really sad that I cannot stay at a job that I absolutely love and that I'm told I'm amazing at because of the stress and lack of staff and embarrassingly low pay. The government and/or school board are shooting themselves in the foot at so many levels. In time the public will see it. 

I was a Teacher assistant so working with the Teacher, assisting them for what ever they needed. Often required to work one on one with the students. The management was excellent, I attended the school I was assisting at so I knew the majority of the staff there and it was a delight to work with them. They were all very helpful and understanding.

The board seems to be run as a business and not as a front line vessel for social change. It seems like saving money is more important than giving students the best possible experience in their education. Grades are prioritized over social development 

Representing 16,000 students at board-level was very rewarding. There seemed to be a lack of proper training for the job, and there wasn't a huge support network readily available to provide help.

typical day was usually a routine. I learned alot of new cleaning tips & tricks, also the people are amazing. hardest part of the day was the heavy lifting. most enjoyable part was all the stories they told me. i really enjoyed my time co-oping them.
