Over the past two years, HearingLife Canada has undergone a substantial transformation, marked by a nearly complete turnover in executive leadership. This period has been characterized by several significant changes that have adversely affected the work environment.

The company has executed numerous terminations of managers, creating a pervasive atmosphere of uncertainty and instability. This has eroded trust among managers and employees, leading to a reluctance to share critical feedback or engage proactively. The fear of job security has significantly compromised communication and collaboration, elements that were once integral to our organizational culture.

The resultant impact on workplace morale is notable. Meetings, which were previously characterized by openness and camaraderie, have become tense and silent. The focus has shifted from collective success to individual job preservation, fostering a climate of negativity and distrust.

In conjunction with these changes, the company has introduced several performance management and sales programs, often with minimal notice or preparation. These initiatives have intensified the stress and anxiety among employees, overshadowing other critical aspects of their roles. The excessive emphasis on sales targets has detracted from the importance of delivering quality service and support to clients, shifting the organizational priorities in a detrimental manner.

The cumulative effect of these factors has been profoundly damaging to the work environment at HearingLife Canada. The erosion of trust, decline in morale, and heightened pressure on sales have collectively contributed to a sense of instability and lack of support within the workplace. It is crucial that these issues are acknowledged and addressed by the leadership to restore a positive and collaborative work culture.

As a former employee of HearingLife Canada Ltd., I feel compelled to share my negative experience with the company's culture and management practices. 

First and foremost, the company culture at HearingLife Canada is toxic and demoralizing. There is a widespread atmosphere of negativity and distrust among employees, which significantly impacts morale and productivity. Instead of fostering a supportive and collaborative environment, management often resorts to blame-shifting and scapegoating when things go wrong. This creates a culture of fear where employees are afraid to speak up or take risks for fear of retribution.

Furthermore, the management at HearingLife Canada is a complete mess. There is a lack of clear direction and communication from upper management, which leads to confusion and frustration among employees. Decisions are made impulsively and without considering the impact on staff, resulting in constant chaos and uncertainty. Additionally, managers often micromanage employees and fail to provide adequate support or guidance, further aggravating the problem.

Despite my efforts to prove myself and excel in my role, I found that there were limited growth opportunities within the company. Promotions and advancements seemed to be based more on favoritism than merit, which was incredibly disheartening. 

Overall, HearingLife Canada Ltd. was overwhelmingly negative. The toxic company culture, poor management practices, and lack of growth opportunities made it impossible to thrive. I would caution anyone considering employment with this company to think twice and explore other options where their talents and contributions will be valued and appreciated.

While the consistency of hours (Mon-Fri, 9-5), weekends, holidays off, and fairly decent benefits are all positives - the overall work culture as it relates to the company (head office) and those on the ground (clinic employees etc.) has been made clear. The company line is the best care in hearing health care, when at the end of the day immense pressure is put on employees to perform in sales. Those who perform well are showered with accolades, additional supports, and the potential for increasing salary through bonuses. Those who go the extra mile with their clients and families providing additional care and support, helping secure funding for those who cannot afford aids (which is extremely dependent on geography and economy), etc. are met with nothing more than inquiries as to why the sales are not to HO's arbitrary standards. Annual increases and compensation are purely based on "merit" (read; SALES), and they do not even provide an increase for cost of living (unless you meet their sales targets). Loyalty of long term employees seems not to be valued, as at any moment we have witnessed exemplary employees terminated without cause.

A positive I can attest to is the group culture among the clinic staff. Universally, employees interact well with each other and are always willing to help one another when challenges arise. The company finds good people. But doesn't seem to want to complete the basic tasks needed to keep those people around. 

Although I truly enjoy my immediate team, management and higher up staff is brutal. You do not and will not be paid your worth, however you will be expected to do the work of several employees. When you DO receive recognition for doing well, it is quickly erased with a comment about how easy or unimportant that specific task is. You also will not see any financial compensation for it. There is a high turn overrate with new employees and a sense of superiority and judgement from those who have been working with the company a longtime. This, I believe, comes from HearingLife buying every small hearing company but not matching anyone's pay, so those grandfathered into their original company's pay grid laugh at those who are hired on to do the same job at a quarter of the pay. 

Unfortunately my experience working at Hearinglife wasn’t up to the expectations they led me to believe I would have.  Lack of support from regional management was apparent when clinic visits were only 2 in a 12 month spam.  High expectations for monthly unit targets when some clinics ran on only 2 active HIS days and the rest to try to cold call past clients.  No ability to grow other then being a CSA at minimum wage.  Performance reviews were very very unfairly assessed due to Covid absenteeism due to school closures.  Coverage wasn’t provided leaving clinic doors closed.  HearingLife could have been a great place to work if they actually cared about their employees but it’s all about sales and quotas.  

High volume calls and appointments. Lots of walk in clients. AR’s are a disaster, staff makes constant billing errors that can only be cleaned up by head office. You get pulled in 4 different directions. Everyone is doing there own thing, extremely unorganized.  Over priced products, clients have no choice for proper product purchase.  Staff change over is extremely high.  Incompetence level worst I have ever seen. Poor desk and chair design, you have to sit at the desk at an angle to see the computer. They rent old office space, breakers go off all the time, heat and air conditioner doesn’t work, elevators breakdown.  Good place if you like min wage and the work load of 2 people and babysit other team members. 

It's that time of year again when I get to submit an updated review of HearingLife. No, I have not been employed since 1999, but I have been employed for a considerable amount of time. Wow... the majority of these management changes are just SO UNFORTUNATE. We used to be great, but the life has been sucked out of this place. It is depressing, cold, and frankly it's hard to care anymore. Tenure and loyalty gets you absolutely nothing around this place. Try running your Job Description through a salary calculator and seeing you average 30K less than the national average? Not fun, and not fair. I've said it before and I'll say it again. DO BETTER HEARINGLIFE. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
You don’t have many co-workers to deal with, in the clinic there are just the CSA and the clinician. Working vibe is chill. Most clients are very nice.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They like you to warm-call old clients, book them in and fill up the schedule.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Friendly. Yet it’s still more like a business than health care.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Not too busy. Job is easy piecey if you’re detail oriented.

Working at Hearing Life Canada has been very rewarding as I have a large scope of responsibilities including accounts receivable and payable, case sensitive client information, corresponding with audiologists, doctors, third party (WCB,DVA,NIHB, AADL) 

I have over 9 years’ experience in administration and office support and now would to further my career in payroll and administration. My competence, accuracy and reliability would make me an asset to a company. I am currently moving back to Calgary to advance my career in administration and payroll

It is fun and pleasure to work for the company when you have wonderful colleagues. I had a chance to learn how to deal with different clientele; while using my accounting skills for Dailey sales/payment and account receivables and payable as well. It is easy when you enjoy your job and nothing is hard on you, however there is tough days when you have to please unpleasant people/customer, or to collect the outstanding balances - AR. Despite the fact, I like to work with people and see their smiling face from given help, and that make my day to be delightful.
